Help with travel to Cabo de la Vela

Hi all,
i am going to be in Colombia for two weeks starting this coming wednesday :)
I would like to get to Cabo de la Vela but am not sure how to get there.
I will probably fly from Bogota to Santa Marta and then try to get to Cabo de la Vela from there.
How would you recommend getting there? I heard there are no regular buses that go there from Santa Marta. Also I would like to stay there for a few days so a 1 or 2 day tour would not be enough for me...

I'd appreciate any help :D
