I have a friend who will be in Valparaiso for this coming New Year's. He read about cruises from Muelle Prat to watch the fireworks display. I read that tickets should be bought one to two weeks in advance. However, he will not arrive in Chile until 12/24 and in Valparaiso until 12/29. Is there any way for him to secure tickets for this cruise any other way in advance?

Is anyone interested? The cost is $159/night (is this expensive?) for 3 nights. Here is a few details: Two bedroom two bath apartment fully furnished in a brand-new 24-story Condominium. Beautiful view from Balcony of the Ocean. Walking distance to Mall, Supermarket and Restaurants. There is a 24-hour doorman.

We are coming into Santiago from the mountains on Feb 1, morning, and would like to share a mini van transfer to the cruise ship in Valpo. There are 2 of us. If 4 people share, it's $50 or less per person. Thanks! (our cruise is Valpo to BA, on RCCL Radiance)

Hello everyone, this is my first time post a question.

Arriving Valparaiso via Carnival Splendor on March 3,2009. Is it easy to find tours or to get around on our own from the port? My husband and I are pretty independant and would like to just walk around. Is this safe? Is town an easy walk from the ship terminal? thanks. GrannyPam

My interests are walking/hiking, photography, food and wine, music, and making new friends.

My Spanish isn't that great, I speak English/French.

I don't really want any formal tour, just someone to chat with and maybe walk around with, have lunch or supper,etc.

I plan on traveling by bus from Santiago to Valparaiso and back. I would arrive in Valparaiso Friday afternoon, and return to Santiago (airport) Sunday afternoon, my flight is at 9:00pm back to Canada.

I am going to be in Vina del Mar and would like to visit San Alfonso del Mar. I can't find a bus that goes between the two cities. Is there one? Or what routes do I need to take?

Also, do you have to stay at San Alfonso del Mar to swim there? Can you just get a day pass to swim?

As a teacher, I can only go on extended vacations in June and July. We want to go to Chile -- Valparaiso and Vina del Mar -- Argentina, and Uruguay next summer. I know it's winter then. Is it worth going? Will it be very cold? Advice, please!!

My wife and I are arriving on an Air Canada flight from Toronto to Santiago on April 11, 2009. We start a cruise the next day, leaving from Valparaiso. Is anyone else on the same itinerary, and what options are you considering to get from the airport in Santiago to Valparaiso?

We are looking at a cruise that ends in Valparaiso. We will have to get a hotel for a couple of days before the cruise and then get transportation to the cruise ship, Celebrity cruise line. The agent we talked to said that it would cost over 600 USD for each of 2 adults and 1 child to get from the airport to the hotel then to the cruise ship. This seems very high. Does anyone have an idea about what the cost should be? Thank you very much. We want to go but 600 each for transportation is a real deal killer. Jerry, Susan & Karen

My husband and I are going on a cruise (Star Princess) and will be debarking in Valparaiso on Dec 8th. We are booking a tour with winetoursvalparaiso for the day and then he will take us to the airport in Santiago. We will be going to see Vina del Mar, Cerro San Cristobal and then a winery. The tour also includes lunch. If we have 3 couples, it will cost approximately $94. a person. Anyone interested in sharing this tour with us.

where is the best place to get married in vina, when we are flying in from overseas. we are gettgin married over the winter break and are looking for a worry-free all inclusive but beautiful venue. any suggestions on the best way to go about?

We are arriving in Valparaiso Dec 21 at 8AM (bording) the Norwegian Sun and would like to share transportation to Santiago`s airport.

I am seeking long-term accommodation (approximately 2-3 months)in the city of Valparaiso. Most places I find on the internet are expensive for such a long stay. I see that many hostels offer fairly inexpensive pricing, but I do not feel comfortable sharing a room with other(s) that I do not know. Can anyone offer alternative recommendations as to less expensive places to stay? It does not have to be anything fancy or such, just safe and quiet with a bed and bath. I am a student in the united sates and would like to study in chile. I have read a lot about Chile and am certain that the country is a very interesting, beautiful and fun place. I have a strong urge to study abroad but would like to finish college in this university. I need information about the university requirements (grades) and also if it is possible for me to attend. I'm not sure if would be able to stay with a host family but want to. I know chilean spanish is very different and hard but i would like to be able to speak the language. If you could help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I have heard that the Chilean spanish is different from the other countries. What is the reaction of Chileans to United States citizens. Can you tell me more about this?

My husband and I are disembarking a cruise ship at Valparaiso on Sunday 30th March and would like take a sight seeing tour of Valparaiso and possibly Santiago and then be taken to the Airport to catch a flight leaving for London at 18.45 pm. The boat docks early in the morning. We would be happy to go alone or be joined by other persons.

We arrive on a cruise ship at Valparaiso on Sunday 30th March and would like to take a sightseeing tour of Santiago and return to Santiago Airport for return flight to London leaving at l8.45 pm. We are two persons and are happy to share the tour. English language would be preferable, if possible.

Can anyone give me a an approximate taxi fare cost from Valparaiso to Santiago? Our hotel wants to charge us $150 one way....I'm thinking this may be high and a taxi cheaper?
