I found hotels in Santiago for good prices at hotelbooking sites hotelclub and latintrip. Has anyone used these bookingsites, are they good and safe, because they charge your creditcard by booking...
I normally book hotels via booking.com and my creditcard isn't charged then, I just pay at the hotel...

Santiago Cheap airport hotel (or VERY cheap ***/shower/shave/bed) place?
Posted: Mon March 30, 2009 07:10 PM UTC
Hi all

I am in South America for 6 weeks at the mo, in a few weeks I arrive in Santiago and head to Easter Island the next day (i am in santiago for 2 nights after Easter).

Instead of wasting money on taxis to a hostel in town for the night then back to the airport in the morning, does anyone know of any CHEAP hotels close to the airport.

OR one of those dodgy small places that have a bed and a shower and are very basic (i stayed in one by honolulu airport once)?

Thanks guys!

Santiago Santiago Airport Bus
Posted: Sat March 7, 2009 11:45 PM UTC
I would like to know if there is an airport bus from Santiago Arturo Merino Benitez Airport to Sheraton Santiago Hotel and Convention Center on Santa Maria Ave. If so, where would I be able to access the bus timetable and bus fare costs?

Also, is there a bus from the port of Valparaiso, where the Royal Carribean Cruiseline disembarks, to the hotel stated above?

Lastly, I will be in town for a couple days. Any recommendations for sightseeing, etc.?

Santiago Transport from Harbour to Santiago or station to take a bus
Posted: Wed March 4, 2009 02:24 PM UTC
We are pensioners and will be arriving on 26 April 2009 with the Radiance of the seas. I heard there are lovely markets near the harbour which one can visit on foot. Is it safe? Will it be near the ships terminal and if we later want to travel to Santiago after the morning visit to Valparaiso, is it better to take a tour and transfer to Santiago or will we easily get a taxi to take us to the terminal near the station for the bus? Or do you know of any other cheap transport between the 2 cities that one can book?

Santiago transportation from Valparaiso Port (cruise, NCL) to Santiago, Chili (SCL) airport
Posted: Fri February 20, 2009 08:26 AM UTC
We are docking at 8:00 a.m. Apr. 12 and leave 8:30 p.m. from SCL airport to Miami, Fl. I understand the Valparaiso port to airport in Santiago is 180 miles, thats a long taxi ride, costly; the cruise line so far has not provided a bus, nor a tour that includes a ride to the airport. Anybody have any suggestions, or idea how to get contact with shuttle service or mode of transportation. I don't want to be there and hi-jacked money-wise by a taxi and know we are desperate to get to airport and charges an enormous fee. (It has happened before). Any help appreciated much - thanks, deede2

I would like to know what the average for renting a room or a small apartment is. Nothing too fancy, nothing too crappy. Something normal, in a normal neighborhood.
Does anybody know a website where I could search for posible places?
Thanks!!

Región Metropolitana de Santiago Travelling from Santiago to Puerto Montt/Puerto Varas
Posted: Fri February 13, 2009 09:54 PM UTC
Good evening VTists,

I have a question that I'm hoping someone who is knowledgeable in Chilean bus logistics can answer. I'd be happy to send some good vibes back in return.

My girlfriend and I are getting into Santiago by plane from Easter Island at 8:30PM and we would like to take an overnight bus to Puerto Montt right away if it is possible. Through the TurBus site I see a couple different possibilities but I'm confused about their departure points:
Stgo.Vitacura, Stgo.Sazie, Stgo.Borja O.59, Stgo.T.Alameda, Stgo.Tnal.Sur105-106
Does anyone know which one is closest to the airport? Or should I say-- if my flight arrives ontime does it sound reasonable to be able to get from the Arturo Merino Benitez Airport to Stgo.Borja O.59 bus departure point by 10:15PM?

Also, does anyone know the differences between the classes? I'm seeing CLASICO, SEMI CAMA, SALON CAMA, PREMIUM. I personally don't care about the class type but I'm sure my girlfriend would prefer a bed.

Sorry to ask so many questions. It would be easier if the Turbus website was a little more informative.

Santiago hotels in Providencia or nearby

Hi all,
my wife and I will be in Santiago from April 13th to the 20th. We have been told to look for a hotel in or around the "comuna" Providencia. Any suggestions for a hotel around 80 dollars a night, clean, fairly quiet?
Preferably, near the metro line that goes to the Universidad de Chile.

thanks in advance,

Santiago Car rental and converters
Posted: Fri January 30, 2009 06:52 PM UTC
I am planning to pick up a car at the airport in Santiago and drive to Vina del Mar. The man at the hostel (Che Lagarto) told me it is not a problem and no cost and safe to park on the street out front of his place. Does this sound right and are any opinons on drving in and around Santiago?
Also, I am planning on bringing a lap top and converter. I have been told that I need a small watt converter of 50W or else it may burn out my lap top. Anyone have experience with this?
One finally question: Is there a $100 fee charged at the airport when I land?
Thanks for any and all help.

Santiago Need help
Posted: Thu January 22, 2009 02:45 AM UTC
We are traveling to Santiago and will arrive on February 14th. The length of time we can stay will depend on if our daughter can get her prescription medicine refilled there. Her doctor in Canada will only give her a prescription for a limited amount so if it is not available we will be limited in our stay. She has thyroid problems and has to take desiccated thyroid (natural not synthetic) Some brand names are Armour, Naturethoid, Westhroid and Qualitest. She will have a prescription with her but the stuff is not too common. Could somebody please call a pharmacy/botique and see if they have it. We would really appreciate it.

Thank you very much, Robert, Susan & Karen

Hola
My wife and I are arriving in Santiago March 9 looking for a nice , clean, modestly priced B&B for 6 days or other similar accommodation convenient to public transportation. Prices seem to vary quite drastically and reviews have been mixed. Any help or recommendation from a local or someone who has recently stayed there would be appreciated.

Santiago santiago I am coming,
Posted: Mon January 19, 2009 09:14 PM UTC
hello to fellow travellers,
I have a question I like to pose to you, if you have the right information please let me know quicly because I have little time to decide.
I will be in arequipa on the 27 of january, heading to santiago but I dont know how as yet, the distance is pretty far, to take a flight is not a bad idea, however for one way ticket is some money I could spend differently, could rent a car for example and probably have some rest to spend in an overnight hotel, I wouldnt mind taking the bus, my questions are: Do you know low cost airline, I repeat low cost flights nothing to do with LAN, do you have any informations about buses from arequipa to santiago, how long time, if it is possible to break the trip, and the name of the bus line?
Thanks for your cooperation
