Santiago Snowboard price in chile and trip advice
Posted: Wed July 23, 2008 08:01 PM UTC
Hi All,
I will be going to Chile (Valle Nevado) in August to ski (from Brazil) and I had couple of questions:

- What is the best alternative for lodging? The price at the resorts is very high so I was wondering if there hotels or house to rent close by, how long would be the ride to get to the ski resort every day...

- I was wondering whether it will be cheaper to buy a snowboard rather than renting it for a week. The rental in Valle Nevado is ~50USD/day (I stay 7 days so 350USD). Can I find a used snowboard in Santiago easily? how much ~? and where?

- Any info on the resort in general would be usefull (are they any stores to buy food, alcohol...)

Thanks for the help

Santiago Only One Evening in Santiago - What to Do? Where to Stay?
Posted: Sat July 5, 2008 01:31 PM UTC
Hi everyone,

We are a family of 5 who unfortunately will only have 1 evening to spend seeing Santiago. We arrive by air from Easter Island at 6:30pm and have to fly out again the next morning at 9:45am.

This is our first time to Santiago (although we hope to return to see it properly someday) for all of us.

Could anyone recommend some things to see and places to stay reasonably close to the airport?

Thankyou!

We are flying to Santiago in the Chilean winter, we want to ride a bus to Mendoza and on to Córdoba on August 3 or 4, and back on August 30.
Want to make sure buses from Santiago to Mendoza and back run every day even in the heart of the winter?
Otherwise, what flights?
Anyone has a reliable tip on this? Thanks.

Santiago Good areas to stay?
Posted: Sat April 26, 2008 01:13 PM UTC
So I'm trying to figure out where to stay in Santiago. I have an opportunity to stay for free with miles, but am fearful of being stuck in an area with only the hotel restaurant, and having cab fares eat up the rest of my savings.

So here are the 4 addresses in question that I can pick from:
+ Four Points - Santa Magdalena No. 111 (Providencia)
+ Sheraton - Ave Santa Maria 1742 (Providencia)
+ San Cristobal Tower - Josefina Edwards De Ferari 0100 ( ? )
+ the W - Isidora Goyenechea 3000 ( ? )

Anyone can tell me if either one of these is better than the others location wise?

Thanks for all help!

Santiago The Mountains
Posted: Sun March 23, 2008 12:47 AM UTC
Hi,

I'm travelling to Santiago, on April, and I'm planning on visiting Farellones, La Parva, El Colorado and Valle Nevado on a tour. I would really like to see the mountains, and I don't have much time to travel far from Santiago. Is it ok to go to those places in this time of the year, or there are better places to go?

Thanks!

I am arriving in Santiago at about 3pm local time, on the 15th of March, and I am desperately trying to find a bar near the Plaza De Armas area ideally, or anywhere else in Santiago that will be showing the 6 Nations Rugby match live, or at least a re-run. Can anyone help with this. I need to see us beat the Froggies, and to win the Grand Slam!!!!

Santiago flight from europe to santiago
Posted: Tue February 19, 2008 01:41 AM UTC
in your experiences, what is the cheapest flight to Santiago from europe? due to proximity, madrid seems like the most likely and so far it is in my investigations with Pluna, the uruguayan airlines. since flights within europe can be quite cheap it doesn't really matter where i am departing from.

Santiago Santiago to Vina del Mar
Posted: Thu February 14, 2008 03:29 AM UTC
My wife and I are traveling to Santiago and plan to stay in the city for 2 nights. Then we are traveling to Vina del Mar. Since we are not traveling on by plane that day, we cannot use the LAN bus.

I have read about the buses that go to Vina del Mar. We are hesitant to travel by bus because we have a couple pieces of luggage. What is the bus like? Is there any way to get a transport by car arranged by a travel agent? Would this be very very expensive?

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Alex

I need to be in Valparaiso by 2 pm, since i am taking a cruise.

Santiago Bus Luggage Again
Posted: Tue January 29, 2008 05:04 PM UTC
I appreciate the advice I was given that the most secure luggage on an inter-city bus is that which is in the luggage compartment at the base of the bus rather than anything you may bring with you to the passenger compartment. I therefore ask what the normal practice is for giving up custody of your luggage so that it gets into the luggage compartment. Do people stand beside the parked bus with their luggage until the driver loads it into the luggage compartment. Presumably your luggage has been tagged somewhere and you have something that matches your tags.

Santiago 6 Hour Layover in Santiago.... Suggestions???
Posted: Tue January 29, 2008 03:27 AM UTC
I have a 6 Hour Layover Next week in Santiago, and I've never been. I get in at 9:45 in the Morning. Is it worth Paying the fee at customs, and heading out to the City for Lunch? If so, does anyone have a suggestion as to where to go that will be fairly painless to and from the airport? Obviously some sort of cultural center that has lots of dining options and is fun to see would be nice.

Also, does anyone know if there is a place to store luggage at the airport?

Any details will be appreciated. Including, what transportation to take, where to go, etc...

Can I even do all this in 6 Hours? (what about checking back into customs to go to Mendoza)

Whew!

Santiago Luggage on board Bus?
Posted: Sat January 26, 2008 07:43 PM UTC
We expect to take an overnight bus Santiago to Buenos Aires - probably TurBus - probably Premium service. I'm wondering if, similar to an airline, you can bring a small suitcase on board with dimensions up to 23 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm ? That's what I'll have on the plane to Santiago for things I want with me and I wonder if I'll have to repack for the bus?
