Hello,
I'll be in Puerto Montt for several days before heading to Punta
Arenas. The cruise to Bariloche looks interesting but getting from
Bariloche to Punta Arenas looks like a pricey pita. I was considering
taking the cruise one way and the bus back to Puerto Montt.
Any opinions, advice?
Thanks in Advance, Jeff
I have heard that Chaiten was devastated by the volcano. Does anyone know if buses are still running from Chaiten to Coyhaique or Puyuhuapi or Futaleufu? How to find out the schedule? How about the ferry to Quellon or Castro? Thank you!
- osorno volcano and petrohue falls
-puerto varas, frutillar and a view of osorno and lake lianquihue
-petrohue falls and the lake district
- save some time to visit the city
I'm interested with the volcano, but considering that if I choose this tour I won't have time to do anything else, is it a good choice?
if instead I choose to go to Chiloe, would it be feasible to do it in the time frame available?
Hi VT friends, I am planning to visit Puerto Varas in mid October 2008. Just wondering how the weather is during that month and whether I need to bring along warm clothing. Many thanks in advance.
Is it really a possibility a boat tour from Quellón to try to see blue whales in April ? or just marketing what I see with this regard in some web sites ?
Can anyone give some info about fly fishing in the Puerto Varas area. Is it possible to do it without a guide? Perhaps just rent a car and drive to the rivers? Or can someone recommend an inexpensive fishing guide. We really only need to be taken to the fishing location and picked up at the end of the day..
What is the cost of a taxi ride from Puerto Montt to Puerto Varas?
Is it reasonalbe to rent a car in Puerto Varas and drive to the fishing location? If so, can you give information on the car rental agent? Or can a taxi take you to the fishing location and arranged to be picked up later in the day?
Dad and I would like to take a rafting trip down the Futaleufu. Can anyone recommend a good company to go with? We're looking for the cheapest without lacking safety!
Hello,
Can anyone please tell me if it is easy to book a minivan for a private day tour of P.Montt/P. Varas once we get to the port or should we book in advance? And if we must book ahead of time, any recommendations for tour guide/agencies? Our cruise ship will be there on Dec.20,2007 and will be tendered from 8:00AM-5:00PM. Any tips for a day itineraries of "must see"? Thank you very much.
Lena
I am visiting chiloe from 27/10 to 31/10
I have found difficult to find where to rent a car in the island, preferably in Ancud. Any help? Alternatively, is it feasible to move around by public transport?

When is the best time for fly fishing. Does anyone know of a good and cheap fishing guide or the best fishing lodge. Any information on the fly fishing anywhere in Chile would be helpful.thanks
My wife and I arrive in Puerto Montt this June 26th, 2007 in the morning. We plan to take the two-day lake crossing tour to Bariloche on the 27th. My questions are:
1. Should we spend the one night in Puerto Montt or in Puerto Varas? We are willing to pay up to $80 or so for the one hotel night and would like a nice, convenient location for one afternoon of touring. Any suggestions for hotel/hostel?
2. If you had one afternoon to spend in the area like us, what would you do? where would you go?
My friend and I are spending one month in Argentina and Chile. The idea of visiting this island appeals to us, but is it worth the trip? How long does it take to get there from the Chilean coast, and how much would it cost us? (We would do it the cheapest way possible!) We could really only afford to spend one day there. Please advise!! :-)

I'm planning to travel 11 days from Puerto montt to Balmaceda in March.
Car hire is excessive for only one person, is there other ways to do that route that is worth trying, example: Bus?
Anyone want to do same to try to share a car?
Thanks!
Any one has done the carretera austral from Port Montt to Chile Chico?
How long can it take?
Is it easy to rent a car in Port Montt and leave it at the end? How much can it cost?
Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Can you advise me on where to find information regarding renting a house in Puerto Montt for up to 6 months. I am not looking for anything too fancy, I prefer a local house near the town centre.
Hello, please give me your opinion. I am on a cruise that offers a canopy adventure at the Alerce lodge, I am trying to find out information on how good this adventure is, and can't get anything. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? is it worth the time and money to do this? approx 150 US per person or should I look at the river rafting trip instead. please help, many thanks...
Greetings, my friend and I will be spending 5 weeks trekking and camping in patagonia come December. We would like to rent a house in futaleufu for a home base. Does anyone have any suggestions as if this is a good idea and/or where can i research about renting a house. Thanks
i unfortunately only have 4 days for the lake district and would appreciate an advise as to whether a drive from Temuco to Puerto Montt is still meaningful in such a short time?
Also, what would be the best places to see on the way, considering the time constraints?
Finally, are there any recommended car rentals that would allow me to rent a car in Temuco and drop it off in Puerto Montt?
Hi! I am planning to stay 3 or 4 days in Chaiten , Chile. Any suggestions about where to stay, eat or what to see in this time of the year? Thank you very much for any information you can give me.
kind regards from Argentina,
Maria
I will have 2 days on Chiloe and want to visit Castro, Dalcahue, Chonchi and National Park Chiloe. May be also Ancud (if enough time, not sure what is better).
We will start from Puerto Montt around 10am after landing, and I plan to be in Puerto Varas next night. What is the best way to do it? Buy tour or rent car?
If yes, which operators/car agencies are the best. Should we take 4WD to visit park or regular car is ok? Where is the best place to spend night in Castro (local and cheap)?
Any other tips?

We planned to go to 1 day trip to summit of Osorno volcano in April, but all Internet sites show that it is very expensive (150-200$ pp) and also possible in groups of 3 people only. We are 4 people.
Any ideas about operators who does it cheaper and allows larger groups?
Also, on the same night I will need to leave to Pucon. What is the best way to get there?
