I hear that the roads in Chile are some of the best in South America. I have tentative plans to do a road trip from Santiago to Punta Arenas that would take a week and a half. I'm not sure if this is even possible, so here's my question. I can't find any highways on the maps i've looked at that will take me the whole way - are there ways to drive through that last patch in the south or will I have to fly there?

We'll be in Chile next October and saw that the biggest swimming pool in the world can be found in Algarrobo (San Alfonso del Mar resort).

Now that somethink cool to be visited, but I don't find any info on either visiting the plase as a guest for a day (if possible at all) or staying there for one or two nights.

So that's my question .... Can we get there just as guests or a short-term stayers ?

Has anyone got any information on the about the Chaiten eruption in Chile?
I'm going to San Carlos de Bariloche in Argentina(July) and I read some airports were closed. Aerolineas Argentinas seem to say that Neuquen and Esquel airports are closed due to smoke.

¿Alguien tiene màs informacion sobre el volcan Chaìten? Voy a San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina (julio) y leo que unos aeropuertos estan cerrados. AA dicen que aeropuertos Neuquen y Esquel estan cerrados por razon del humo.

Hey everybody,

I've got 5-7 days to bus down to Santiago from Huacachina. Does anyone have any good recommendations on where to stop on the way down? I will probably see Arequipa for a day and I'll probably stop in the Atacama desert for a day as well. Is it difficult to find reliable busses from place to place like this on the way down? Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated!

I'm planning a one-month-trip to Chile betweem mid August and mid September. Wanted to see Puntas Arenas and the Torre del Paine Park at the beginning of September.
Is that possible? Is the plane the best way to reach the city in this season? How long is it worth to stay?

Will be in Santiago and Vina/Valpo for a week and were looking for good wineries and/or tours to include. We will most likely have a rental, so access to public transportation is not a necessity.

Anybody have good recommendations beyond Concha y Toro?

So I'm trying to figure out where to stay in Santiago. I have an opportunity to stay for free with miles, but am fearful of being stuck in an area with only the hotel restaurant, and having cab fares eat up the rest of my savings.

So here are the 4 addresses in question that I can pick from:
+ Four Points - Santa Magdalena No. 111 (Providencia)
+ Sheraton - Ave Santa Maria 1742 (Providencia)
+ San Cristobal Tower - Josefina Edwards De Ferari 0100 ( ? )
+ the W - Isidora Goyenechea 3000 ( ? )

Anyone can tell me if either one of these is better than the others location wise?

We are 2 Canadians who traveled for 6 months in Chile and Argentina in our Voklswagen Kombi. This experience was a great way to explore remote places and to save on our traveling budget. We must now return to Canada, which means we have to sell our van.

Does anyone knows how to get in touch with potential buyers? We would rather sell it to other travelers since it is all set up to live and sleep in it.

I am going from Santiago to Calama in a couple of weeks.
I am going on Tur Bus which goes from Stgo.Borja O.59 or Stgo.T.Alameda TB.
Is there any difference between the two? I'm not sure if it's the same bus or two different buses which arrive at the same time?

I am staying in this area: Near Hotel Crowne Plaza, at Ramon Corvalan # 37 , Edificio DON BERNARDO, , corner of Carabineros de Chile. How far are the bus stations from there? I guess I'll get a taxi to the bus station.

Any information that you can give me about the bus stations would be very helpful.

Me gustaria que dieron una ayuda, en el clima (ropas adecuadas), al tipo de tierras, los hoteis en Valparaiso con la capacidad para una equipa de 30 personas, camiones y coches de competición... Tengo ganas de estudiar en el extranjero pero querria terminar colegio en este universidad. Necesito informacion sobre los requistos (notas) de la universidad y tambien si es possible a asitir. No estoy seguro pueda vivir con un familia antrifiona pero quiero a. Se que espanol Chilean es muy diferente y dificil pero querria poder hablar la lengua. Todo la ayuda es apreciada.

I am a student in the united sates and would like to study in chile. I have read a lot about Chile and am certain that the country is a very interesting, beautiful and fun place. I have a strong urge to study abroad but would like to finish college in this university. I need information about the university requirements (grades) and also if it is possible for me to attend. I'm not sure if would be able to stay with a host family but want to. I know chilean spanish is very different and hard but i would like to be able to speak the language. We are looking for some suggestions on Good Restaurants in Santiago that have a great View of the City and aren't extremely expensive. If there aren't any than a Restaurants with a nice atmosphere! Anyone know of ideas how to get from Pucon, Chile to Bariloche? I've heard that you can take a bus to Puerto Madryn, and then to Bariloche, but is there a direct bus that goes from Pucon to Bariloche? Any help would be great!

I will be traveling from LAX to Paraguay with a connection in Santiago, I have read that there is a departure tax. If this is true what is the amount? Also being a in transit passenger will I be charged the $100 fee for entry?????

We (3 persons) arrive Santiago airport Nov. 22nd at 9:40am. We would like airport pick-up and tour of Vina del Mar (and hotel) plus tour of Valparaiso with drop-off at NCL cruise ship dock Valparaiso by 3pm next day, Nov. 23rd. Any ideas or suggestions or anyone on same NCL cruise wish to share with us? Thanks.

Hi, does anyone know if there is a train that leaves from Santiago Intl Airport to Puerto Montt? Is there a website I can go to? If there is no train running direct, what would I book to get to the closest point and swop over to?

I'm interested in studying in the Valparaíso University for a summer, possibly summer 2009. I would like to know any information about the university, the city, or safe areas within. If you could help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I have heard that the Chilean spanish is different from the other countries. What is the reaction of Chileans to United States citizens. Can you tell me more about this?
