Ushuaia what to do in Ushuaia
Posted: Mon January 19, 2009 06:49 PM UTC
I'll be in Ushuaia for about 6 to 8 hours.
I'm hesitating between:
-making a tour on the Beagle Channel
- visiting tierra del fuego ntl park
-going to Lapataia bay
- saving some time to visit the city
-visiting glacier martial on my own (going by taxi) and using the chairlift.

what do you suggest?

Any advice on Antarctica cruises is welcome as I don't know much about them.

Ushuaia CLOTHING IN FEBRUARY
Posted: Mon January 12, 2009 11:27 PM UTC
Can anybody give me advice on the type of cloting I should wear on February. I'll be on a cruise ship with some stops (one in Punta Arenas, Ushuaia, Puerto Madryn and Puerto Montt.)

In Ushuaia, I intend to go to the glacier martial and to Tierra del Fuego ntl park. Do you believe I will need gloves and a cap? A sweater? What weather should I expect ?

Finally, is it possible to take a plane to Antartica back and forth the same day? I'd like to have a look of Antartica (in the air). Are you aware of reliable agencies doing that?
thanks a lot!!!

Ushuaia Flights not landing in Ushuaia (Ar. Argentina) - Rio Grande to Ushuaia transportation?
Posted: Fri January 9, 2009 03:30 AM UTC
The Aerolineas Argentinas site states that flights are not landing in Ushuaia until a radio navigation system is restored. It was just posted Jan. 6th. Flights will land in Rio Grande - 3-4 hours away

I need to purchase a ticket from BA to Ushuaia ...

Does anyone have any information:

... Any idea how long this will take to resolve?

... How are the transportation options - I have seen several bus companies that go from Rio Grande to Ushuaia - does anyone have any experience with these buses - safe for a woman alone to ride? Reliable?

I am hoping they fly back to the right airport soon! - I will be traveling early March.

Ushuaia Wine purchasing
Posted: Sat December 13, 2008 11:44 PM UTC
OK. This may be a silly question to most. But,we will be going on a cruise ship to Antarctica on the 18th out of Ushuaia. We enjoy drinking wine and would like to take some good Argentinian wines with us on the trip.

Does anyone know if there is a good wine store in Ushuaia where we can purchase good Argentinian wines?

If not, we'll probably bring them down from Buenos Airies - but with all the luggage we currently have it will be tough.

Please let me know by sending a direct email. (Your ignorant yankee friend :-)

Thanks.

Ushuaia LAN changing flight times without notice
Posted: Mon December 8, 2008 10:48 PM UTC
This is not a question, rather it is a notice.

We are here in Ush, and we barely made it. LAN has been changing the flight times without notice.

The 11:10 from El Calafate to Ushuaia now leaves at 10:10.

The 4:25 from Ushuaia to Santiago is now leaving at 3:15.

These are the only ones that I know of. I presume that there may be others.

Will someone please post this to Tripadvisor and other sites?

Ushuaia Transportation from Ushuaia
Posted: Wed November 5, 2008 05:09 AM UTC
My wife and I are arriving by boat to Ushuaia in late November. As there appear to be no Saturday flights from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas we wondered if there are other means of travel worth exploring. Can a rental car from Argentina be dropped in Chile? Are there scheduled buses or small chartered flights?

Ushuaia question about flights - BA to Ushuaia
Posted: Tue October 7, 2008 04:58 AM UTC
hi all...

i am planning to start my SA trip in BA for a few days and then fly to Ushuaia to begin trekking... i was hoping to fly on sunday 11/30... i searched on Aerolineas Argentinas and found tickets for $302 (one way) on that day and the same before or after...then i searched LAN and found the ticket was around $500...

is there anywhere else i should check??...is this the average price?? ... i guess i was expecting it to be a bit less than $300...

any advice would be really appreciated!!!... thanks so much!!!

Tierra del Fuego traces of the former inhabitants of Patagonia/Fireland ??
Posted: Fri August 29, 2008 08:45 AM UTC
hi,
for a video-project I would need to know what traces are there still to be found of the former native inhabitants of Fireland/ Tierra del Fuego.
I remember the murals on the post-office of Ushuaia, and the Salesianer Museum and Magellan - monument in Punta Arenas but there must be more for sure :
Maybe an old cemetery, maybe some open-air-museum of old huts/dwellings ?
are there still places, where it is possible to learn their old language ?
thanks a lot in advance !

Ushuaia is it possible to buy a lighted globe in Ushuaia ?
Posted: Tue July 22, 2008 09:21 AM UTC
I am talking about a home-size globe (maybe 30 cm diameter) with a small lamp inside so the continents are shining through.
I might need it for a few photos, but dont want to bring mine in the flight-luggage.

Ushuaia Ushuaia to Torres del Paine
Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 06:00 AM UTC
We plan to fly into Ushuaia ( from El Calafate ), and then go into Chile ( presumably through Punta Arenas ), see Torres del Paine, and then fly to Santiago.

The general question is how should we do it?

The particular questions are:
1) Is it easy to rent a car in Argentina and drop it off in Chile?
2) What is the best way to get from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas? Car/ferry? Bus/ferry? Fly? ( not interested in cruise ship )
3) Where is a reasonable place to stay while visiting Torres del Paine? Puerto Natales?
4) Where do we catch a flight from southern Chile into Santiago? The best we can find requires going back south to Punta Arenas.
5) Or should we scrap the plan above and take the different route of El Calafate to Torres del Paine, back to El Calafate, then down to Usuaia?

Also, any general advice on the whole plan would appreciated.
Thanks

Ushuaia Booking Activities in Ushuaia
Posted: Wed April 16, 2008 07:18 PM UTC
Hi there...I'm heading to Ushuaia in January 2009 and wanted to find out if anyone has some info on whether activities/day trips should be booked in advance, or can be done easily when we arrive? Since we're headed there in peak season, do things such as beagle channel cruises, walks on the martial glacier, or day trips to the national park ever sell out or are difficult to arrange? Is anyone aware of whether these activities are very costly? Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide!

Ushuaia Do stores sell performance clothing or should I buy elsewhere?
Posted: Mon January 28, 2008 02:45 PM UTC
My husband and I are planning to go to Ushuaia and hopefully get on a ship for Antarctica mid February. We are now in Brazil for Carnival and only brought summer clothes with us. Are there clothing stores that sell clothes by the North Face, Pagagonia, etc. in Ushuaia or do I need to buy here if Rio? Are they expensive down there?

Thanks!

Ushuaia Renting parkas for Antarctic Cruise
Posted: Mon October 22, 2007 01:48 PM UTC
Hi,

Is it possible to rent a parka jacket in Ushuaia? We need them for our Antarctic cruise but we as we're travelling in South America for a year it makes more sense to rent them. Can anyone recommend somewhere to rent them in Ushuaia and give me an indication of the rental price for 11 days?

Thanks,
