Best 1-4 day hiking?? Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 12:20 AM UTC
Hi. I expect to spend about 7-10 days in Mendoza in January, and I'm looking for recommendations on the absolute best hikes/treks. Anything in the range of 1-4 days. I'm looking for the best views of the Andes and the most beautiful trails! It seems like many people do the approach to Aconcagua... is this really the best??
When my partner and I went to Bolivia we discovered the most incredible hike we'd ever done (Choro Trek), but we only heard about it word-of-mouth. So we're hoping to repeat that experience!

Mendoza Area Accomodations Posted: Fri April 4, 2008 01:28 AM UTC
I'm traveling to Mendoza during October and will be there for three nights. I want to stay somewhere outside of the city center but don't want to rent a car (ideally somewhere that is still walking distance to some restaurants). I found the following places. Can anyone tell me which is the best or if they would not recommend any of these places for any particular reason?
-Club Tapiz, Carlos Pulenta La Posada, Robles de Besares, Casa Glebinias, Lares de Chacras and Finca Adalgisz

How far is the airport from the city?
Is there any bus that goes to the city?
How much does it cost?
Is it a local bus or a bus that serves only the airport?

Where to stay....transport in getting around.... Posted: Tue February 19, 2008 02:16 PM UTC
Hello, could you tell me where the most reasonable bed and breakfast would be within walking distance to most major highlights! Would you suggest we hire a car for 2 days,in Mendoza then as we are intending to drive on to Cordoba. Which is a decent car rental company (internet booking would be preferred before), which route to take to Cordoba (what side of the road do Argentinians drive on??) How long do we need. Are there interesting little villages/ sights en route, where do you suggest we stop to overnight???? If you have done this trip before, let me know, OR if it is better to take the bus, that too is not a bad idea. Costs for bus??? Thanks any info is great!

Mendoza or Lake District? Posted: Thu January 31, 2008 01:36 AM UTC
I am going to be in Argentina in mid-May. We'll only have ten days and we want to spend a chunk of that in Buenos Aires. I'd like to spend the rest of the time around either Mendoza or Bariloche, but I've never been to either and they both look great. Does anyone who has been to these two places have a recommendation one way or the other? I'd really appreciate it. I'm leaning towards Mendoza - given the weather will be nicer there that time of year, and the wine tastings sound great - but the lake district looks so amazing... Thank you!

Cheap accommodation in Mendoza Posted: Mon January 14, 2008 01:32 AM UTC
Hi, I'm travelling to mendoza for 2 days and have been trying to find a cheap double room in a fairly good location. Can anyone help me out with recommendations, the cheaper the better.... $20-$30???
I've looked on the internet but things don't seem to be as cheap as I imagined, (e.g. bed in a dorm in a hostel, $37). Would it be better just to arrive and have a walk around to try and find a small hotel that can't advertise on the internet??
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Tom

Traveling from Bariloche to Mendoza Posted: Sun December 30, 2007 06:23 PM UTC
My wife and I plus two friends will be traveling in Chile and Argentina in February and the first part of March. We will be in Bariloche through March 2nd. We want to reach Mendoza by the 6th. If possible, we don't want to travel through the city of Nequen. Is it possible to travel by bus from Bariloche along the following route: Bariloche, San Martin, Junin, Zapala, Malargue, San Rafael, Mendoza? We want to see the countryside along the way and hug the east side of the Andes. If this route is problematic, do you have any other suggestions about the best way to travel from Bariloche to Mendoza by bus?

Christmas Day - Camping in a winery Posted: Fri December 21, 2007 02:11 PM UTC
My boyfriend and I are travelling through Argentina and would love to spend Christmas in a vineyard. Is anyone aware of any wineries that would allow us to camp overnight?
We are fully self sufficient and have a small tent, which we can pitch wherever is convenient. Obviously we are happy to pay for this privilege and intend to buy some wine!
I realise this an unusual request, however waking up on Christmas morning amongst the vines would just be an amazing experience for 2 Brits.

Advice needed for travelling to and from Mendoza by bus Posted: Wed June 6, 2007 08:04 PM UTC
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to catch a bus from Posadas to Mendoza, and then after a week move on to Buenos Aires? How regular would this bus routes be, and how much would a decent bus cost? Would I need to book tickets in advance?
Also, could anyone recommend any good, safe hostels in Mendoza which have a great atmosphere and are good for meeting other travellers?
Thanks a lot in advance!!

language teaching in Mendoza Posted: Wed May 16, 2007 11:04 AM UTC
I am hoping to relocate to Mendoza at the end of this year and will be looking for work as an English Teacher. I am fully qualified and will be looking to set up private teaching or to find work in an English language school.
I've scoured the net for information but haven't found much at all.
Can anyone tell me if there is a market for teaching English privately or if there are quite a few English Language schools.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

Mendoza highlights and information on bus to Santiago Posted: Sun April 29, 2007 08:29 PM UTC
For my 25th wedding anniversary we are planning to go to Puerto Montt, then to Bariloche (lake crossing), then to Mendoza (by bus) and then to Santiago (by bus) before our final return flight to New York. We are thinking of 2 days in Bariloche and 3-4 days in the Mendoza area during the first week of July (outside any travel time). Would you recommend we swap the time? i.e. 3-4 days Bariloche and 2 in Mendoza? What are the "must see" places in Mendoza and surrounding area? Finally, we read that the pass from Mendoza to Santiago can be closed at times. Should we reserve an extra day for this trip to make sure we don't miss our return flight from Santiago?
Thank you for any advice you can give us; this is the last bit of information we need to start reserving tickets, hotels, etc. And by the way, any nice hotel/apartment/hostal in Mendoza you recommend? Price should not be much of an issue.

Mendoza Posted: Sat April 21, 2007 09:22 PM UTC
My wife and I are planning a trip to Chile and Argentina during the month of February, 2008. One of our stops will be Mendoza, Argentina. I have been trying to research the availability of hotel rooms that we could book well in advance of our trip. I have checked many online resources (such as Orbitz, Kayak, etc.), but these show that most hotel rooms are already unavailable. Is it really that difficult to find a decent room in Mendoza during the month of February? And do you know of any hoteles or hosterias that would have available rooms during that month?

hiking around Mendoza Posted: Fri April 20, 2007 01:26 PM UTC
hey there! Can anyone suggest hiking trails in the Mendoza area? My friend and I would love to go hiking for one or 2 days in the area, and ideally in or near the Andes. What are the possibilities out there? Also, are there any trails with a hut or some hostel/hotel along or near the trail? And what's the weather like at night in the mountains around this time of the year (in case we decide to camp after all)?
Thanks a lot!!

House or apartment rental Posted: Mon April 9, 2007 12:20 AM UTC
We are looking to rent a house for the month of March 2008 in Tupungato, Tunuyan or close by with 2 or 3 bedrooms. Mendoza City or in between Tupungato and Mendoza City would be OK also.
We will be in the Uco Valley to experience the grape harvest and our uncle, aunt and my father will be joining us.
Looking forward to any suggestions.
Thank you,
