| Dublin | Dublin Accommodation & Rental Car to Visit West Coast Posted: Sat May 10, 2008 02:03 PM UTC
Arrive Dublin From Australia Wednesday 20th August'08, need good 3 star accommodation, hotel or B&B within walking distance of city centre for 2 nights.Any recommendations, need quiet room at night.
Appreciate names of rental car coys, need medium size car for 7 or 8 nights, pick up Dublin city, return to Dublin or Dublin Airport when we depart on 29th August. Are there any accommodation groups who pre sell vouchers for accommodation at B&B or hotels / pubs for use as we drive around Ireland? Is this a good metod of obtaining accommodation? Finally, what should we expect weather wise. Appreciate all replies, Mike |

| County Clare | Shannon airport - lahinch? Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 01:28 PM UTC
Hi,
I'm a Ireland-lover and after going to Dublin a few times I decided to go to the west. I'm going to stay (most likely) in a hostel in Lahinch. I'd like to hear your opinion on the safety in these hostels (I'm a young woman), things to do in that area (nature, history, pubs, cultural, anything will do,..) and how to get there from the airport preferably by public transport as I'm on a tight budget and can not rent a car because I don't habe a license. Thank you! Tamara |

| Ireland | Where to stay? Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 05:48 AM UTC
My wife and I arrive in Dublin, Ireland on 13 May until 30 May, apart from rental car and accommodation in Dublin, nothing else is arranged. When we travel around Australia, we stay in country pubs to experience the local flavour. I have looked on the net and can only seem to find info on B and B's, Hotels or Hostels for Ireland.
Can anyone tell me if village pubs have rooms for rent? Thanks |

| Cork | Short Break in Cork Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 07:51 AM UTC
Hi, my wife and I ( late 60s ) will be coming from Edinburgh for about four days in September. Is the airport the best place to hire a car ? No accommodation booked so what is the best way to explore the area ? E.G. One night B&Bs ? What is the going rate for 3* B&B ? For such a short stay would we be better off using public transport to and from airport and just book day trips from a B&B based in the city?

| Ireland | Shopping on Bank Holidays? Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 02:10 AM UTC
Is there any? Will be in Dublin for June 2 holiday. Are any stores open? What about the tourist offices? I know most museums and such are closed but can't find any reference to bank holidays. My guess would be that they are not, seeing how they are closed most nights, unlike N. America. Maybe some tourist area places open?

| Ireland | Ireland in 7-8 Days? What can I absolutely not miss? Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 12:12 AM UTC
Hello Fellow Travelers!
I'm a Californian doing a tour of England, Ireland and Scotland from May 22-June 8, 2008. The only solo (and yet unplanned) leg of the trip will be my 7-8 days in Ireland. I am a 30 year old gal who's into castles and other historical gems, local culture, bed and breakfasts and outdoorsy pursuits. I dont want to spend all my time in a bus or rental car, but I do want to get a well-rounded taste of Ireland in that time. I'd prefer to stay in B&Bs that are small and friendly/clean, and spend less time in big city atmospheres like Dublin. I will be coming to Ireland from London...where should I fly in? Any sample itineraries? I'm intereted in seeing authentic Ireland, a bit off the beaten path, away from tour buses, but still safe for a solo woman. Specific Questions: 1. Best Views? (Cliffs? Woods?) 2. Best Historical Sites? (Castles, Churches, Other?) 3. Best Towns to see (I'm not really into the big city thing, more into friendly towns with interesting stories and people) 4. Best Activities? 5. Best B&Bs? Your input would be greatly appreciated! Happy Travels! Yasmine in San Francisco... |

| Ireland | Seaweed for baths Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 08:35 AM UTC
Hi,
At various places in Ireland, such as Ballybunion, they have seaweed baths. Does anyone know if you can purchase the fresh seaweed anywhere for taking to your own bath? (I don't mean dried seaweed, as I already know where to buy that.) Thanks. Cathy |

| Ireland | Travel without a rental in Southwest Ireland Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 01:59 AM UTC
My husband and I are travelling in Ireland for a week - flying into Shannon and leaving from Kerry or Cork. Looks like we can take a bus from Shannon to Doolin ( we are planning to stay overnight and then take a ferry and spend overnight at Aran Island) and then from Doolin to Dingle via the Killimer - Tarbet ferry. We want to spend a couple of days in Dingle.
Has anyone had experience with the buses? Does this seem feasible? Thanks |

| Ireland | LUAS to Kilmainham Gaol Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 10:48 PM UTC
We would like to visit Kilmainham Gaol when we visit Dublin if it does not take up too much of our time getting there and back. Has anybody here taken the LUAS to get there. We will be near the Jervis stop so that would be our starting point. What stop is closest to the Gaol and how far would the walking distance be from that point?

| Ireland | Ireland - Car Rental Insurance Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 04:50 PM UTC
The planned trip is flying from the United States to Shannon airport. We will be a party of 7 so we have rented a van and plan on driving thoughout southeast Ireland.
Is it better to have the insurance from the rental company in Ireland or associated with my existing US car insurance? Or - is there a choice? |

we're planning on taking a driving tour of Ireland this June or August.
We'll be traveling with two older folks, one of whom does not get around well, and pretty generally needs a walker, and for long distances a wheelchair. how is the availability of places - from tourist sites, to hotels and restaurants in Ireland? Would this create a problem in the whole "experience" thanks rick cerilli |

| Ireland | Help planning trip Posted: Fri April 18, 2008 06:38 PM UTC
Hello, My husband and I are traveling to Ireland in May. We will fly into Dublin and stay 3 nights, then pick up a rental car and have 7 nights of B&B Vouchers.
I know that I want to see Tara/Newgrange, Cliffs of Mohar, possibly Kildare. I also read that Dingle (I think that's the right name, I don't have the brochure with me at the moment) is good as well. I'm interested in historical/landmarks, and hubby just wants to see some castles. We'd like to see more out-of-the-way sites, that aren't as crowded. We plan on taking many many pictures as well. Does anyone have an itinerary that would be helpful? This will be our first trip overseas, so any other tips would be much appreciated. Also, since we'll be paying for our meals, what would you recommend we budget for eating, souveniers, and entrance fees? Thank you! |

| Ireland | Renting transportation in IE at 19? Posted: Fri April 18, 2008 12:26 PM UTC
I haven't found any type of transportation (car, motorcycle, scooter would even be fine) that I can rent that has a minimum age requirement lass than 21. Does anybody know if they exist? I would love some info.
Or maybe an alternative idea? Taxis are cool here and there, but I want to go pretty far and for unkown amounts of time. I'm going to be walking a lot anyway, and biking would be the best if going long distances wasn't such a big deal. Also, I mean no offense, but what's the matter on leaving bikes unattended outside overnight? Mainly I'd love information on how to rent a car when being 19. |

I am trying to decide on a day tour from Dublin. The tours I am looking at stop in either Avoca or Powerscourt Estate but not both. All things being equal, which is the best choice? (They also include Glendalough, but no tours, except on Sunday, appear to include all 3). Opinions anyone?
