weather this weekend/exchange rate Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 12:48 AM UTC
hello: weather.com shows Dublin to have "light rain" this weekend--is "light rain" for dublin just a drizzle or is it something more? Also, has anyone seen what the currency exchange rate is for US dollars at the exchange houses in the city center--need to see if its a better deal (can get no fee changes using employee pass of my family) to just change here in the US before going over? (please, no discussions/personal opinions on using atms, the dollar sucks etc etc--I have been to europe a zillion times and I prefer to exchange cash for personal reasons!). Thanks!!

Opion on Taxi Company Posted: Tue June 30, 2009 04:17 PM UTC
Hello All,
We are seeing a dinner show at the Merry Ploughboy Pub which is a little outside of Dublin City Center and since we don't have a car I guess we'll be taking a taxi. The Pub's website lists a taxi company that will give us a twenty percent discount but they don't list their rates anywhere which can't be a good sign. The taxi company is Xpert Taxi. Does anyone have an opinion on if they are a good and hopefully cheap company? Maybe another company would be better? There are seven of us and I was a little wary of taking the bus since we would have to work off their scheduale and the stop might not be close to our destination. If anyone has any opinions they would be greatly appreciated, :).

tour times and cost Posted: Fri June 26, 2009 10:31 PM UTC
I was wondering how much a usual tour of the Ross Clan Castle would cost. Also, what are the usual times for the tours, and do you need a reservation?

Where would you eat in Wexford with kids Posted: Fri June 26, 2009 03:24 PM UTC
They are quite civilised and love to eat out, so it doesn't have to be McDonalds, but I don't want to spend an absolute fortune. Somewhere nice but not crazily expensive where people won't frown at me for having brought children. We'd be gone by 8.30.

Are there any nice clothes shops in Wexford? Posted: Fri June 26, 2009 03:21 PM UTC
I'm in my 30s and like 'high street' shops like Zara, Mango, Monsoon, Next, H&M, all the ones you get up in Dublin. Just wondering if a trip to Wexford to look at clothes would be worth it.

day trip limerick to galway: poor idea? Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 02:45 AM UTC
From Limerick, We're planning a couple days for excursions in county clare. The more I read about Bunratty, Adare, etc. the more they sound like tourist traps rather than somewhere I want to spend my few precious days in Ireland. So now we're thinking maybe a day trip to Galway. It looks like a 1 1/2 hour bus ride (can anyone advise CityLink vs. Bus Eireann?)
We are more interested in people and life than in old castles (at least where it requires the better part of a day) does this seem like a reasonable use of time? Is Galway fairly compact and walkable (child and grandmother included in group)
Thanks!

Taxi Costs? Posted: Wed June 24, 2009 05:48 PM UTC
Hi, there is 3 of us (& 3 suitcases) traveling to Dublin in early Sept and was just wondering if anyone knew how much a taxi would cost from over in the city centre to the airport. I'm looking at staying at the Augustine Apartments. Or is there a better way to get to the airport from here. I fly out at 7 am so need to be at the airport by 5 am as I'm flying to Belgium. Any advice would be great. Thanks

hotel in ennis, driving to miltown malbay Posted: Sun June 21, 2009 09:39 PM UTC
Hello- Because I waited too long to book, the best I could do to see some of Willie Clancy Week was to book a hotel in Ennis. We'll have a car; how awful will it be to be based that far away? What about coming back in evenings -- how late does it stay light? Are the roads particularly bad? Many thanks! We grow more excited each day.

Which hotel? Posted: Sun June 21, 2009 09:03 PM UTC
In Galway early July, 4 of us for two nights. Thinking of one of the following hotels.
Jurys Inn, Clayton Hotel or the Radisson Blu hotel. First two are roughly same price and there is only £25 per night extra for the Radisson. Any comments welcomed.

Tours of Ireland Posted: Sat June 20, 2009 01:08 AM UTC
We are still two young ladies from Hong Kong and we want to do a 10 day tour of Ireland in July. We have considered Paddywagon Tours which are very cheap but often use their own mixed dorms. Our Western colleagues recommend that we should be having the "B and B experience." Can anyone recommend a tour company that uses B and B's or smaller hotels??
Thanks in anticipation.

Las Vegas to Dublin Posted: Thu June 18, 2009 11:24 PM UTC
Recently -- within the last six months -- a news item stated that an airline was going to soon begin flying LAS to DUB and have many seats at a discount on each flight. Start date in 2009.
Does anyone know this airline....??
Thanks, Noduh7@VTmail.com , 18JUNE09.

GUEST HOUSES ALL AROUND IRELAND Posted: Thu June 18, 2009 08:30 AM UTC
Is it true that in Ireland you can always find a place to sleep without reserve it before? i don't talk about Dublin but specially for the city of the counties (Cork, Kilkenny...).
We will travel around Ireland by car in August, and I'm afraid of sleeping in car...:-)
Sorry if it isn't a real problem, but in Italy doesn't work in this way and it seems to me a little bit strange but anyway a pretty thing.
Sorry also for my english...i'm learning!! :-)
Thank you for the answers!
Ciao

car rental vs. public transport for trip inc. dublin, limerick, cork, waterford Posted: Tue June 16, 2009 03:39 AM UTC
Hello -- We (two adults and a child) are flying into Dublin to attend event in Limerick for several days. We then hope to stop to Cork and then Waterford (perhaps a day or so each) before returning to Dublin to fly home.
We probably don't much need the car the first few days while we'll be stationed in Limerick. Would it be smarter to get a car upon arrival and return it at the end of the trip, or to rely on the train from dublin-limerick and hire a car once in Limerick?
I have the impression that we could have a better experience with the flexibility of a car, but am concerned about navigating roads, fellow travelers, etc while beguiled and jetlagged.
Suggested itinerary changes, loding recommendations, etc also welcome. Thanks!

One night in Leitrim in November Posted: Thu June 11, 2009 04:54 PM UTC
I plan on visiting Leitrim during the first weekend in November. I am on a four night trip to Ireland with my father and brother and would like to visit Leitrim, as my g-g-grandmother was born in Mohill R.C. Parrish area.
Any recommendations for food/pubs, lodging, interesting spots to visit, particularly in the Mohill area? Right now, I think the day of the visit would be on a Sunday - or would anyone suggest against that?
p.s. I am trying to figure out the town of my ancestor, but this may take some time. I hope to figure it out before the trip, but one never knows. I'd at least like to see the area if nothing else.

Dublin, how many days, really Posted: Thu June 11, 2009 04:47 PM UTC
I will be arriving in Dublin for the first weekend November, specifically arriving on a Friday morning and leaving on a Tuesday morning.
How many days would you say a person should do Dublin in? I was hoping to visit a bit further afield during my stay. Are 2 nights in Dublin sufficient?
And what are the recommended - don't miss things to do? Are any days/nights better than others? Should I stay Friday and Saturday night, adn go further afield for the Sunday night? I was hoping to hit a quiet, rural area during my stay.
