Galway Oyster Festival
Posted: Sat November 7, 2009 12:02 AM UTC
Has anyone attended the Galway Oyster Festival? If so, can you give me your impressions. A friend is planning a trip for a bunch of college buddies (mid-30s) and Ireland is in the running. We're wondering if planning our trip around the festival would make sense.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

County Dublin Dublin groups for young at heart 60 year olds.
Posted: Sun November 1, 2009 12:50 PM UTC
Hi
I have recently moved to North Dublin. Does anyone know of any groups or activites for over 60's, or widowed people in this area. There are some senior citizen places but a lot of these cater for the very elderly and have no appeal for me I also wonder if there are any travel groups catering for single/widowed people who would have organised trips in this age bracket.
Hope you can help.

Dublin VT Meet in Dublin on Wednesday 11/4
Posted: Sun October 25, 2009 01:06 AM UTC
Hi,
This isn't a question -- just a notice/reminder. I have posted a VT meeting at The Long Stone Pub in Dublin on Wednesday November 4th at 7 pm. The Long Stone is located at 10 Townsend Street in the Dublin city center (or should I say centre?) near Trinity College.

http://meetings.virtualtourist.com/1/meeting-4934-1-0-0-World-1256428661328-1287964661328-meeting.html?wosid=csgsqpVootZnAUfIhYcbNw

In a nutshell, it will be an informal meeting for dinner/drinks and conversation. If you are not interested in dinner, you can just come for drinks. So far, we have a geographically diverse group: Marg (wise23girl) from Australia, annemariebyrne (Anne Marie) from Dublin, and myself (Billnj) from New Jersey. Please sign up if you are in the area and might be interested!

Cheers,

Bill

Dublin AIRPORT SHUTTLE
Posted: Fri October 16, 2009 08:20 PM UTC
I am 76 years old, so I can't walk 2 or 3 blocks carrying luggage from a shuttle bus to my hotel. What would be the best way to get from the airport to Best Western Premier Academy Plaza Hotel Findlater Place, off O'Connell Street? Do any of those shuttle buses stop at my hotel? Which one? I will be traveling with my family, 4 of us,? If we took a taxi, would we pay 4 separate fares or is it the same price for one person as four. Would it be better/cheaper for me to take a taxi?

Dublin Dublin 20-23 March 2010 - cheap accomodation
Posted: Thu October 15, 2009 08:21 AM UTC
Dear all,

we will be visiting dublin for the wkd 20-23 March 2010 to celebrate a bachelors party. We will be a group of 10-12 in total.

We were looking for some cheap self-catering apartments or Hotels - do you recommend anything in particular?

Since we'll be there the wkd following St.Patrick's day would it still be hard to find accomodation?

Kind Regards
Stefan

Ireland Prepping for St. Pat's
Posted: Fri October 9, 2009 08:44 PM UTC
Hello, my friend and I are going to be in Ireland in March 2010 during our "backpacking" trip. We only have a few days to spend so we wanted to make the most of it. St. Pat's is going to be celebrated from Friday, March 12 - Wednesday, March 17. My question is: Should we plan to spend the weekend (Friday - Monday) or actually be there for St. Patrick's Day (Wednesday). Keep in mind we are 23 years old and are looking for fun with a little culture mixed in!

Hey Everyone,

I'm planning on spending New Years Eve in Dublin. Where are the hot spots? Are there any special events going on that may be fun? I don't know if I'll be functional or not, but what about on New Years Day?

Thanks for your help...

Ireland Been anywhere amazing?
Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 04:13 PM UTC
I am travelling to Ireland at the end of November with a friend, we are both 24yr old Australian women.
The plan at the moment is to hire a car in Northern Ireland and then drive to Ireland and around the country for a week. Obviously there is way too much for us to see and do in a week so I was hoping someone who has been there before could recommend a few particular spots?
We are going to be staying in hostels it would be good to know any particularly fun and lively ones.
Thanks

Limerick Wednesday nights in Limerick City
Posted: Wed September 30, 2009 05:09 PM UTC
Hi World, I'll be in Limerick on Wednesday 21st October. Is there anything interesting happening clubwise? A place for the over 25s to hang out is where I'm after. Or a younger place playing r'n'b/80s/90s?

Thanks in advance.

Ireland a shot in the dark
Posted: Mon September 21, 2009 04:06 AM UTC
i was hopping around on the whole web site -- virtual tourist -- and saw a message about an ireland hostel , i didnt write down who wrote it , where the hostel was or any of the important info , silly me ;(

am hoping that maybe someone might recognize by what little discription i can give - it did have a picture ( two if i remember correct ) and it looked to be set in the forest / wooded area (heavy wooded area) the building looked old and kind of like what youd pull to mind as a " haunted " place ( one of the pictures was inside , just inside the entry way ), there was a rteview written ( i remember the review stating that the female did not sleep well during the night because she had frightened her self and stayed awake all night ) but she would reccomned to stay there

if anyone comes across the message or can point me in the right direction id be forever greatful

in advance -- thank you

be well & enjoy the rest of your day

Dublin Dublin in March
Posted: Fri September 18, 2009 12:04 AM UTC
I am a single woman traveling to Dublin this Spring. My plan was to spend 8 days traveling around the Ring of Kerry and then spend the last day or two in Dublin. Is it worth it to book my trip over the St. Patrick's Day holidays so I am in Dublin on the 17th?

Adare Activities for Daddy and 2 wee ones whilst Mom works?
Posted: Tue September 15, 2009 07:43 PM UTC
I'll be working while my husband and our 5 and 4 year olds will be free to roam--for four days. What can they do? There's a pool at the hotel, so that's a couple of hours a day. There's a park, so if the weather's nice, a little time spent there. Is there anything else in walking distance, or a short drive away? (My husband is GPS-challenged and a tentative driver with two kids on the other side of the road....) Thanks for any ideas!

Doolin Staying in Doolin, no car, how difficult to get around?
Posted: Fri September 4, 2009 03:18 AM UTC
I'd like to stay a few days in Doolin and take some boat tours and bus tours. What can anyone recommend as a good central locations/hotel where I can easily walk to the pier, etc? I don't mind walking several km. I don't want to waste money on taxis. I'd love to stay at the Ballinalacken Castle Hotel but can't get an idea on how far it is from the pier, restaurants, etc. Thanx

Ireland O'Toole cemetary
Posted: Tue September 1, 2009 01:00 AM UTC
I understand that my mother's earlier ancestors, the O'Toole clan dating back well before the 11th century A.D. worshipped and then buried at Reefert Church and cemetary in Glendalough. I wish to visit there in several weeks. Do you know where it is...or anything about it? Thank you for responding.

County Kerry B&B last minute availability
Posted: Sun August 30, 2009 08:05 PM UTC
My family is visiting Kerry in late September. We are renting a car and would like to meander around and stay wherever we happen to be in the evening. Are the B&Bs there generally booked solid, or is it possible to find rooms easily? I'm hoping it's like Stratford-upon-Avon, where there are always rooms to be had even in tourist season. I would appreciate any input. Thank you.
