Buenos Aires On-Line Services??

Is there an on-line service for Argentina like Expedia or Orbitz? I know about Despegar.com. Are there any other on-line travel booking sites?

Buenos Aires Anyone heard of GIC Argentina?
Posted: Fri July 18, 2008 03:07 AM UTC
I am planning to travel to Buenos Aires in August to study Spanish for a month. I thought that taking classes at the University of Buenos Aires would be a good idea and I found this company (GIC Argentina) online that would register you for classes at UBA and also provide accomodation. Did anyone have experience with them?

Thanks,
afahmy

Buenos Aires Aeroparque airport check in times
Posted: Tue July 15, 2008 12:28 PM UTC
Hi there,

I'm getting there by taxi or remise and I want to make sure the check in desks are not a long walk away - is the terminal quite small?. When checking in (with LAN), is the last check in time half an hour before flight departure?

Thanks

Buenos Aires Argentine Law and Behavior vs. US Law and Behavior
Posted: Fri July 11, 2008 08:33 AM UTC
Hey everyone! I've been looking through the forums for a few months now, but I have a question that I haven't seen answered yet.

I'll be arriving in BsAs within a few days, and I'll be staying for about six months. Having spent almost my entire life in the US, I'm sure that there are certain laws, freedoms, and social norms that I likely take for granted that may not hold true in Argentina. If any of you could give me some pointers on any pitfalls I should avoid regarding laws or other rules a foreigner might not be aware of, I'd appreciate it immensely.

Thanks in advance!

Buenos Aires Looking for something to do on my girlfriend's birthday
Posted: Wed July 9, 2008 06:04 AM UTC
Hi,

My girlfriend and I will be in Buenos Aires during the first week or ten days of August which will include her birthday. I'd like to do something to surprise her, but I'm not at all familiar with the city. I'm thinking maybe a nice night out or a day trip somewhere, but I'm really open to any other suggestions as well. I should mention that neither of us are interested in dancing which sort of eliminates a few of the more obvious possibilities. Maybe theater? Can anyone recommend a theater? She is Colombian so one possiblity would include a Colombian restaurant. Does anyone have any recommendations along those lines? Looked through the restaurant listings on the site and didn't see anything.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone might have.

Buenos Aires Football game times
Posted: Tue July 8, 2008 10:08 PM UTC
I'm headed to BsAs in August and want to catch the first Boca Juniors game of the season. I'm pretty short on time while I'm down there and would like to get an overnight bus the same night.

Does anyone know if they hold games at a regular time, or what the latest I could expect to be out of the game by?

Thanks!

Buenos Aires Apartment in San Talmo or Palermo for X-Mas?
Posted: Tue July 8, 2008 08:01 PM UTC
Family of three (Mom, Dad & Teenager) planning to rent apartment (via bytargentina?) for X-Mas week. Have reviewed this board but can't decide between Palermo (Viejo?) and San Telmo. Looking for local neighborhood "feel," restaurants etc. vs shopping & night life but also concerned about safety. Minimal Spanish but very comfortable in urban environment. Would appreciate any general tips on one area relative to the other. Thanks.

Buenos Aires 10 Days in Buenos Aires
Posted: Mon July 7, 2008 01:57 AM UTC
My BF and I will be flying into Buenos Aires and staying for 10 days. I'm really excited to go and have so much time to spend, however with that said- I think it would be nice to visit some nearby towns. Any suggestions for good day trips from Buenos Aires? I know we would like to spend the day riding at an Estancia.. so if you have recommendations that would be great!

Buenos Aires How's the Weather
Posted: Tue July 1, 2008 01:34 AM UTC
We will be in BA from late September to early October. I realize it will be about spring, but what will the weather be like, and what kind of dress is typical at that time (is it warm enough for sandals/sleeveless tops, or would layering be a good idea?)

Buenos Aires Transportation from EZE Airport to Palermo
Posted: Tue June 17, 2008 02:45 AM UTC
Hey there - I've been reading all the helpful posts in the transportation section of BsAs and everyone says to take the shuttle from the airport into town, and buy the transfer ticket for a few extra pesos which will take you directly to you hotel.

My question is, if you're staying at some apartment or someone else besides a hotel or hostel, will the driver take you there? Or is the connecting service only for hostels and hotels?

My parents are visiting me next week and speak just a tiny tiny bit of Spanish so I guess I'm looking for the easiest way for them. I was thinking about arranging for a taxi to pick them up through the hostel I stayed at when I first arrived here. What do you think would be easiest?

Buenos Aires Guardian U.K. reporter to be in Buenos Aires June 20th
Posted: Thu June 12, 2008 09:07 PM UTC
Hi Everyone,

It's VT staff member, Courtney and I just wanted to give you a heads up that a reporter from the Guardian U.K. is doing a story about putting travel networking sites to the test and will be in Buenos Aires on June 20th. She is traveling all over Central and South America meeting members from various sites and using their advice to travel. Needless to say, we want to show her how great VT is and so we're putting out the call for people to speak to her. As I said, she will be in Buenos Aires on June 20th and will be meeting people at a bar called "DeBar" at 9 p.m. (***PLEASE NOTE: The time and/or place may change, so please don't go before checking this forum thread or emailing me***) Just so you know, everyone will need to pay for whatever drinks or food they have on their own, but hopefully it will be a lot of fun and probably feel like a VT meet! As always, we really, really appreciate your participation and hope you are able to make it. If you think you might be able to go, I would also appreciate it if you can drop me a line or better yet, post something here so I can give her some idea of how many people to expect. Just so you have it, I'm posting both the first part of her story, and the bar at which she plans to meet everyone.

Again, many, many thanks for your participation--I hope it will be a lot of fun!

Courtney

Buenos Aires Retiro Bus Terminal
Posted: Tue June 10, 2008 04:21 PM UTC
Hi,

I'm planning to take the long distance bus (Andesmar) from BA to Puerto Madryn. I heard that Retiro is a huge bus terminal and will take time to get one's bearing. Has anyone been to Retiro and if so, would you know:

1. How to get to Retiro from the Obelisk?
2. Where to buy a bus ticket i.e Andesmar?
3. Is the queue usually long?
4. Where to catch the bus - is it a long walk from the ticket office?
5. Is there baggage storage facilities available?

Many thanks

Buenos Aires Tango Lessons
Posted: Fri June 6, 2008 04:21 AM UTC
I and two other tango dance friends are planning to be in Buenos Aires from about November 1 -12, 2008. Two of us have had some basic tango lessons in the US; the third has taught Argentina styled tango dance lessons in the US. We would like to take several days of tango lessons while in Buenos Aires. Who or what group would be the best for us? How do we contact them? Thanks! Also any suggestions for good restaurants, Tango dance shows and other points of interest?
