Manaus Low budged jungle lodges?
Posted: Sun July 5, 2009 02:10 AM UTC
In August I will be traveling through the amazon by boat, and I am planning a stay of about a week near Manaus. The idea is find some lodging in the jungle basically. I have found many accomodations (lungle lodges) on the internet already, but most or all of them are too luxurious, big and expensive for my budget. All I'm looking for is just a place to sleep and eat, and the opportunity to see the jungle.

Could anyone give me some good advice in order to find a cheap and simple place? Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot!

Manaus Two days in Manaus what to see?
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 09:31 PM UTC
we will be on a cruise ship that is docked for two days in Manaus in Dec. 2009. We arrive on the 18th, spend the night on board and take on new passengers on the 20th. So what can we do there besides the offered tours and how safe is it to do things on your own if you don't speak the language? We are middle aged but good on foot. I have checked most the member pages about Manaus but haven't found much info on trips other then the usual falls and meeting of the waters.

thanks

What would be your recommendation for a boat (besides the barge) for a woman traveler for a few days along the Amazon? With side trips of course.

Manaus Where to staqy in or near Manaus
Posted: Sun May 31, 2009 06:52 PM UTC
We'll be in Brazil in August and have been told that a trip to Manaus is a must.
We have also been told that it is best to find a "treetop" hotel outside Manaus and to take tours from there. Does anyhone have recommendations based on personal experience as to a good place to stay that is comfortable but not terribly expensive and from where we can take a few day tours? How many days do you think we should stay there?

Manaus NM Santarem: book thru agent?
Posted: Wed December 3, 2008 06:12 AM UTC
What is the best way to get a booking on this or similar boats for Belem-Manaus? Do you have to thru an agent? go tA travel agent in Belem quoted me US$900/cabin US$970/suite. Our communication is over email. I am not yet in Brazil. This price seems steep compared to prices from 2006. Hard to believe prices increased that much from 2006 to 2009(time I will be traveling). Anyone have any idea?

We just want a simple one day trip up to meeting of the waters, the dolphins, and the eco park and to do the market and city the next day....Any reputable folks who will do a PRIVATE tour picking us up at the docks and doing the 8 hour version one day and athree or four hour version the next who is not too pricey and speaks english????

Manaus URGENT-URGENT
Posted: Mon July 14, 2008 11:41 PM UTC
Hi,
I have a friend travelling South America at the moment. Couple of days ago he had been robbed in Venezuela and changed his plans to go to La Paz. He is in the bus right now, going to Manaus from Venezuela. The thing I want to ask is what is the best&CHEAPEST way for him to go to La Paz from Manaus? Regarding is limited budget at the moment is is a better idea to go through Rio Branco or Porto Velha for Bolivia? Or I've heard when I was in BR that there are commercial river ships sailing through Amazon river. And they sometime letting backpackers travelling with them for a small amount of money. Is that true? And if it is; what is the way to find these ships? Do they go to Bolivia or somewhere close to there?
Or what are the bus ticket prices for bolivia from manaus? Any idea? He is pretty stucked now n needs help.
Any answer & idea is appreciated. Thank you in advance...

Posted: Sat May 17, 2008 03:06 PM UTC
Hi,

I am currenlty beginning to plan my trip to South America and one of my big high lights is to go to see the rainforest in the amazon basin.
So far I have come across two main places to do several day trip in - Iquitos, Peru and Manaus, Brazil.

Could someone please advise me if there are any difference in what you get to see and do there? And what are the best ways to get there? Or are there other places as well?

Thanks a million.

Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 06:19 PM UTC
Hey there,

I´m currently in La Paz (Bolivia) but am planning to get across to Manaus next week to do a jungle trip. I´ve heard bits and pieces about being able to fly to Manaus from Santa Cruz (Bolivia). Flying is first choice of transport, can anyone give details of airlines that go from Bolivia to Manaus - would be very grateful.

Many thanks

Manaus Manaus to Caracas OR Caracas to Manaus
Posted: Sat February 23, 2008 07:05 PM UTC
Looking for someone that has done the journey between Caracas and Manaus by bus. We prefer going by bus that plane as to see places on the way.

If you have done this journey could you please give me advice on bus lines you took, or places you stopped on the way to break up the journey. Trying to avoid 23 hours straight on the bus and it would be nice to stop in the Gran Sabana or Ciudad Bolivar or Delta Orinoco on the way.

Thanks

Manaus Now thats a plan
Posted: Tue January 29, 2008 02:23 PM UTC
Ola,
At last my dream trip to the Amazon is looking like a plan.
Got tickets from UK to Sao Paulo, then Sao (gru) to Manaus.Booked in the Mango guest house for a week.Leaving enough time to orginize a trip up the Rio Nigro
and then onto Rio Branco all the way to Boa vista. From there would like to get some more information :
Can I go to either Venezuela or Guyana on the river?
As we are basing our travel for a two year gap ( from work not school)
and we have UK pport holders can only stay for 90 days in Brazil, and maybe get an extension... but either way would need to leave Brazil for a bit.
Currently we have one way plane tickets only ( uk - Sao paulo, SP - Mao)
and would like to leave Brazil by boat, if this is possible!

Four weeks to go !
Any advice will be usefull :)
Muito Obrigado
Thanks

Manaus License required for boat?
Posted: Mon December 17, 2007 02:44 PM UTC
Hello,
Just got a hint, that a license is needed to buy/use, a boat in the rivers of Brazil. I am not after a yatch, just one that is big eneough to fit 2 people in hammocks on board. Not very fast neither ( slower the better ) about 15 hp.
Milk boat style :)

Does any one have some more information on this? IE ) if a license is required,
can a international driving license do?
All information on this topic, will be welcomed :)

Manaus Challenginf jungle trek in Brazil
Posted: Wed October 17, 2007 12:49 PM UTC
Hi, me and two friends are in Brazil for the carnival in February. After that we are looking for a challenging jungle trek that takes us out of our comfort zone. We want to be camping/sleeping in hammocks, not staying in lodge cabins! We want something between 7-10days so that we can penetrate the rainforest and see as much wildlife as possible. We are young, fit and healthy and want to get a real taste of a jungle experience. However, i want to feel safe in the hands of my guide and trust that he will be able to bring us home safely at the end of the journey. Any suggestions??
