I am currently in SP and planning to visit Rio on the end of my assignment. I have not much time to visit the websites since I am working most of the time. Kindly help me to arrange my trip.

1) What is the better way exprience time wise to go to Rio, by bus or plane. I will be leaving Brazil by SO, so I need to go back to SP.
2) Is Rio easy to navigate as SP City?
3) Is there many cheap but safe acomodation? How about the cost transport, food etc. I am very budget conscious becase the exchange rate of Real to our currency is quite high. Average food allowance per day.
4) What are the places that I can visit there?

Thank you very much for your reply. You can add tips aside from the question above.

I'm a female going to Santos with my son to play soccer. I am concerned about kidnapping, rape and other crimes. Thinking of staying at the Mecure. Does anyone know about the safety of this area and the hotel? I'm really thinking of chickening out.

Arriving at Sao Paulo-Guarulhos airport. Not sure about arrival time yet. Have a meeting in Sao Jose dos Campos the next day. Looking for recommendation for the best way to get to Sao Jose? Can I get transportation at the airport? I do not want to rent a car. Any idea about cost?

I am traveling alone and a bit nervous. Any tips on getting from GRU to Terminal Rodovario Tiete. Taxi or bus and where to catch it, pay for it. Once at Tiete I need to find a bus to Mococa (any idea of what that would cost) I think it is the Nasser company but I am having difficulty reading the schedules or contacting them. Where do I find ticket offices at Tiete. I have heard that it is very dangerous for me to take the bus from the airport and then to be in Tiete and take another bus to Mococa. I do not speak Portuguese. I simply have no idea where to go to get tickets to wait for buses.
Thank you for any help

In Sao Paulo on business and have a weekend to spend here. I dont want to do guided tours...but would like some help planning a day or two. I have been primarily going from the hotel to work (walking distance) so would appreciate any tips on transportation as well.

I have two full days and want to make sure I can see and experience everything I should. Thanks all :)

My wife and I are possibly planning a short visit to Brazil. We hosted a young Brazilian girl in our home about 12 years ago - she's getting married the first of September, and we're looking into attending her wedding. We would probably arrive a week to ten days prior, and leave a few days after. Most likely fly into/out of São Paulo. While we're hoping to get advice from our Brazilan "daughter", I would love suggestions as to what to do in our short time in Brazil, travelling from São Paulo to Tupã, any tips... I'm sure that her family and her will be quite busy leading up to the wedding, so we'll to be somewhat self-sufficient for at least part of our trip! Thanks!

Hi. I am arriving in Santos, Brazil on the 1st April 2012 and satying until 15th April 2012.
Does anyone know of a one or two bedroom apartment that would be available during that period.
I am after a spot near Gonzaga, Jose menino or Bala de sao Vincente or anywhere along that side of the island if possible.
I am English and will be looking for a relaxing two weeks. I am also looking to stay permanatly so will be a good base to locate long term apartments.
Thank you for your help and any responses that are posted. Kevin

I am travelling for work to Sao Paulo beginning of March. I have a few girlfriends joining me at the tail end of my trip for a lil girls getaway. We will be staying for 5 days and 4 nights and want to travel to Rio as well in that time. I was thinking a vacation rental may be a good idea - so we dont have to lug our bags everywhere.
Anyone have any recommendations on areas/rentals that would be a safe places for us to stay. We would like to be accessible to restaurants and bars...but primarily want to be in a safe neighborhood.
Also - what do you recommend for travel to Rio - plane, bus or train?

Thanks in advance :)

I am arriving to Santos Port, Brazil at 8:00am the 29th of December and I only have until 6:00pm that same day to either enjoy Santos City and the beaches or to take a tour to San Paolo. Do I have time to go and see the city and be back on time before the cruise leaves? We are 31 people in our group, ages vary from 9 to 65 years old. What do you think?

Next weekend I have plans to visit Embu das Artes a small town 30 min. away from the city of São Paulo and that is known for its street art fair. Should there be anybody interested in visiting it too, let me know. I also speak fluent Portuguese and intermediate French.

Yo
I'm going to Sao Paulo on a tight budget, so my plan is to eat regular, cheap food the whole time - basically, whatever a working class or lower middle class Paulistano would eat when going out for lunch. I also have a fairly serious peanut allergy. Do I need to be worried? Are any of the staple dishes cooked with peanuts, peanut oil, peanut butter, etc.?
Thanks for any advice!

Hello all,

I'm going to be spending some time in São Paulo, for a bit and was trying to find out information on the trains. I read an earlier post were people talked a bit about it and I've read the information on the Travel Guides for the Trains. They talk about schedules and fares, but not much about security.
My boyfriend has a car, but it is impractical to drive around São Paulo. I would like to take the trains and have experience taking them in Washington DC, Boston, and Atlanta. These are big cities (I know not as big), but robbery is a real chance there too. Yet I've never had any problems on their trains.
My boyfriend says the trains are too unsafe, that we will get robbed, and I could get kidnapped or worse. Is he just filling my head with this or is this a real possibility? Please give me the honest truth here. Would it be fine if we don't carry expensive things and possibly just a few dollars in a wallet just in case? Or is this too big a risk?
It would be a shame not to be able to spend time in the city while I am there.

Travelling to Brazil and not watching a live football match can be considered a sin, and my friends will definately not forgive me for that, Can I know How do I go about getting a ticket for one of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A matches, The one I am looking at is the Palmeiras SP vs Flamengo RJ on 17th July as that is only one avaliable during the dates im in SP. Any idea how much a ticket costs and can they be bought off the counter???

Hello,

As an experienced traveller who has been to 30 countries as a solo traveller without any tour grup or luxury hotel, I felt quite safe.

But I am really scared of Sao Paulo after reading so serious warnings and bad stories at most reliable travel guides. All say that the risk of being pickpocket and gun-robbed is high there.

First time I am really afraid before a travel. I am planning to fly to Sao Paulo, stay some days, go by bus to a souther city (for example Porto Alegre, which is mentioned "dangerous" at travel guides, and they most of the time hesitate to use that word) for few days, then to Uruguay, spend a week, head to Buenos Aires for some days, go to Paraguay by bus and have around 10 days, and back to Sao Paulo for few days more and fly back to Istanbul. One month in total, as I do every year one-month travel to different countries, mid July - mid August. A close friend of mine has lots of miles that he can not use, and offered me a ticket as a present, and his miles are enough for a Sao Paulo ticket, whcich is too expensive for me to buy for this travel I already want for some years.

What can you tell about the risks and concerns in Sao Paulo?

Thanks
Alper
