Oslo for a Day Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 11:29 AM UTC
We're heding to Oslo for a short weekend and will basically have two nights plus a day and a half there. We'll be three adults plus two kids (ages 5 and 8).
None of us has been to Oslo before, so what would you suggest we do for the day on the Saturday?
And where would be good to eat that night?

Going to Oslo from Stockholm Posted: Sat August 29, 2009 07:45 PM UTC
What is the best way to travel from Stockholm to Oslo in October?
I tried to book a night train in October , but the website seems to indicate that it is the Swedexpress bus. Can anyone tell me if the night trains in Stockholm still run to Oslo in October?

Also, i would like to do a day of hiking in the fjord. I am very into extreme sports so I would be up for anthing if someone has reccomendations on what to do for that.

City-Trip Posted: Fri July 24, 2009 12:54 PM UTC
Hello VT-family
I am in the process for planning a trip to Oslo at the middle of September. For preparing my trip I would like to ask you some questions:
- Can you recommend a good hotel in the centre of the city?
- Do you know any good restaurants with acceptable prices?
- Any tipps for nightlife?
- What kind of sights are the most important to see? Any insider-tipps?
- Things I have to know about the city?
Thank you in advance for your help and have a good day….
Take care
Oliver

Staying in Oslo Posted: Sat July 11, 2009 04:18 PM UTC
Hello.
I'm going to Norway this October and I'll need an Hotel in Oslo for the first night, near the train station, because in the next day early in the morning I'm catching the train to Flam.
I saw the Oslo Budget Hotel... is that a bad hostel? I think is near the train station.
The last 2 nights of my trip I'll go back to Oslo and I would like to stay in a nicer hotel but not expensive (not more than 1000 Nok).
Thank you in advance.

Car Hire/Rental in Oslo - Any suggestions/experience? Posted: Tue July 7, 2009 12:52 PM UTC
Please let me know where to get cheap and reliable car hire/rental in Oslo. Do you know of any local and reliable companies offering better prices or any deals going? My wife and I are arrive in early August in Oslo for a couple of weeks, to hire a care and drive in Norway/Sweden/Denmark. We find the prices quoted by the big companies very expensive. Any suggestions/experience would be appreciated now.

Where to get some NOK? Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 09:42 AM UTC
Is it difficult to find a place that allows me to buy some NOK notes?
I arrive early in the morning from Copenhagen.
Perhaps I can already buy some NOK in Copenhagen itself?
In Oslo, is it difficult to find a Bereau de Change or a bank that can do that?

Arriving in Oslo at 5:40 on weekday Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 09:38 AM UTC
Hi all,
I am solo traveller, will be arriving in Oslo from Copenhagen at 5:40 in the morning on Swebus Express.
1) Is there a breakfast place nearby at this godly hour? I need to have a place until 7am.
2) Is there some form of multi-trip card I can purchase? I will spend most time in the town, but just wondering how big Oslo is, or most places are within walking distance (ie less than 2 KM apart)
Thank you!

Oslo June 20-23 - single traveler advice Posted: Mon June 15, 2009 10:39 AM UTC
Hi everyone,
I am coming to Oslo this weekend for work and looking for things to do on my free time (will be staying at SAS Radisson and Thon Munch). I arrive at 16:00 on Saturday so was planning on hitting the shops straight away as it appears most will close around 18:00-19:00 and Sunday things are closed. I am looking for women's mid-range fashion (Zara, H&M, Vera Moda etc.) so was planning on going to Bogstradveien or Steen & Strom mall and surrounding area. After the shops close, I wanted to walk to Vigeland Park to look around for a bit and take advantage of the long sunshine hours (is it dangerous to walk around at night at 22:00-24:00 by yourself in Oslo???).
However, I saw that there are the following events this weekend:
1. "Middelalderfestival" on Saturday until 20:00 or Sunday 11:00-18:00 (Entrance fee 100 NOK) or
2. a free Beer Festival, Fri - Sun: 13:00- 23:00 expecting 20,000 people in Sofienbergparken
Are either of these events worth seeing? Is there a "Summer Solstice" event? Sunday I will be free on Sunday from 11:00-15:00 or after 20:00. Monday, I am working and on a tour of City Hall until 19:45 and then will be free; is there anything to do after 20:00 on Monday near City Hall? Are shops still open? Or should I just stroll Karl Johans gate?
Also, I am a traveler on a budget - I don't mind buying bread and cheese from the supermarket to have picnics (actually more fun that way). Any fast-food joints open on Sunday near SAS Radisson or Thon Munch?
Tips, advice, comments?!?!
Thanks in advance and I am looking forward to coming to your city!
Kristina

Ferry Train Connection Posted: Sun June 14, 2009 10:13 PM UTC
Hi,
I'll be taking the ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo on my way to Bergen and I am trying to find out if I have time to catch the train at 10:30 if the ferry arrives at 9:30. I don't know how long it will take to get off of the ferry and get to the train station in time. The other train option would get me to Flam at 9:45 - will it really still be light enough to enjoy the train ride at that time on 13 July? And, do you know if I have time to catch the 10:30 train? I will really appreciate any advice.
Thanks,
Lynne

Weekends in Oslo Posted: Mon June 8, 2009 11:06 PM UTC
I was reading that most shops in Norway are shut from early Saturday afternoon and on Sundays. I'll be in Oslo for the weekend in mid July and am wondering if most shops will be shut while I'm there because of this or do they stay open in the touristy areas? I hope the museums and tourist attractions are open all day Saturday and Sunday? Thanks in advance :)

Several questions Posted: Mon February 9, 2009 10:57 AM UTC
We are an old couple who will go to Oslo in Feb. We have some questions to ask you all:
1. What kind of winter clothes should we wear? We live in UK, should we buy winter clothes, such us ski trousers, scarfs, gloves, wool socks or warm caps in UK or buy in Oslo? We have northface coats very warm. Is it warm enough to wear in Oslo?
2. Do we need to buy a pass for traveling immidietely on the day? (We will arrive in the afternoon.)We will stay there for a week, so what kind of travel pass is cheaper for the days?
3. We are fish lovers, any nice and cheap restaurants for us to choose in the city?
Many thanks

Torggata Bad? Posted: Sun January 25, 2009 05:26 PM UTC
Hi, I wonder if somebody knows if there's a site online where I could see some old photos of Oslo. I would like to see the Rockefeller when it used to be a public bath.
Do you know if there's an archive site online or a book I could order somewhere?
Thanks.
