Região Autónoma dos Açores São Miguel public bus timetables?
Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 06:51 PM UTC
Hello,

What kind of public transportation is available on São Miguel?

Is it possible, for example, to visit Furnas and Terra Nostra gardens by using public transportation? I will be staying in Ponta Delgada.

Thanks,

Região Autónoma dos Açores layover in Terceira
Posted: Fri June 27, 2008 04:48 AM UTC
Hi,
I'm traveling to Sao Miguel in September and will have a 5 hour layover in Terceira. Would it be reasonable to leave the airport and see some of the island? Any suggestions on a quick side trip and estimated travel times?

Região Autónoma dos Açores On my way to Flores
Posted: Mon April 9, 2007 11:45 PM UTC
Im trying to go from EEUU to Acores. Do you guys know if its better to go straight to Flores from Boston or go mainland Portugal and catch a plane from there? Same question for Madeira Islands, should I go back to mainland Portugal from Acores or can I catch a better fare from Acores itself?
Thanks a lot

Região Autónoma dos Açores Few hours in Ponta Delgada
Posted: Mon March 12, 2007 09:12 PM UTC
We will be in Ponta Delgada on a 4 hour plane lay-over this Saturday. Can anyone tell me how far it is from the airport into the center of town, and is there a nice (not expensive) restaurant you can recommend. Any sights you can recommend, besides walking around to soak up the local feel?

Are taxis metered and how much should a trip airport/town center cost?

Any other places we can see in that amount of time?

Thank you for any comments.

Região Autónoma dos Açores Accomodation and diving club in Horta
Posted: Sat March 3, 2007 07:48 PM UTC
Hello travellers and kind hosts,
I am a young marine biologist from Croatia. I am planning to visit Azores in May and stay 6 months for a training. As a certified scuba diver, I would love to dive as much as possible...but, it would cost me a lot in a diving center for this period of time. So, I am wondering if anybody could help me...is there a diving club (sport club where I could become a member) in Horta? Could you tell me the approximate price for the accomodation/monthly in a normal appartment?Or, what would be a price for renting an appartent of approximately 50 quadrats?

Thank you in advance

Região Autónoma dos Açores Vacation on Sao Miguel, no car.
Posted: Mon January 29, 2007 08:19 PM UTC
Hello! My wife and myself are planning a restful 12-day vacation in the Azores in June, and the Hotel Caloura in Sao Miguel seems to offer the perfect setting. However, we also want to move around a bit, and look forward to seeing as much of the beautiful sights of Sao Miguel and the Azores as we can. The problem is we don't drive, so car hiring is out. I know (and have read in previous posts) that the Caloura is a bit out of the way. I also read previous posts about the apparently absolute necessity of hiring a car. We can of course take a couple of organized sightseeing tours, but we also like to wander around by ourselves. We are fit enough to walk some distances, but of course that would not do if your target is a tens of kilometres away. So the question is, how do you move about? Is there and adequate public transport system? How much would, for instance, a taxi ride cost if one wanted to spend the evening in Ponte Delgado and return? Also: are there day visits to some of the other islands, Pico, for instance?
Advice would be very much appreciated. Or shall we call this vacation off? (The question is not serious, of course.)

Região Autónoma dos Açores What to do in a few hours?
Posted: Sun January 21, 2007 02:57 PM UTC
We will be arriving on a trans-Atantic cruiz in April. How much will we be able to do in a few hours? Do the ships have tours? If so, do you think it is best to go on their tour or to go by ourselves?

Thanks

Here's a question for you!
I'm considering a holiday in the Azores next August. Does anyone know if there is much nightlife? By nightlife I dont mean 'all night discos', but more busy restaurants and cafe/bars at night. Secondly are there many cockroaches?? A real fear of mine.

Would appreciate any help or advice of my fellow VTers whi have been there

Região Autónoma dos Açores Winter boat links
Posted: Wed September 20, 2006 10:19 AM UTC
Hi,

i visited the Azores last winter over New Year's and LOVED the islands i saw (S. Miguel, Faial and Pico). Now i want to return again in the same period (27 December-7 January) to see more of the islands. My plan is to fly to Flores and do the Corvo daytrip from there, but the flight schedules in the winter seem to be very limited. I read that the boat link there can be dodgy due to winter seas, so i wondered if anybody has experience of travel there during this time of the year.

Also, i would like to see S. Jorge. We'd be flying to Horta from Flores, so we could take the boat to Pico like we did last year, but is there also a boat link from Pico to S. Jorge in the winter? Information on this seems to be hard to find on the internet.

Any help is much appreciated. Muito obrigado and happy traveling!

Região Autónoma dos Açores Ferry between Faial & Pico ?
Posted: Mon July 17, 2006 08:11 PM UTC
Does anyone know of the name of the ferry that runs between these islands?
We're trying to plan a trip next year, the only cost not covered in the pamphlet we got from an agent was the cost between the islands. Also how scary are the waters between the islands in November, which is when we were planning on going?

Thanks in advance :)

Região Autónoma dos Açores travelling to açores
Posted: Fri February 10, 2006 04:32 PM UTC
Hey,

Me and 3 more decided we can't pass this year without going to Açores, it was actually my first New years resolution!!! :)
It's still quite opne, the trip, so i would like to know some things, so we can start thinking about it a bit better...
We area thinking about going in July, is that a good time to go? I know the weather is always a bit unpredictable, but what would be the best time to go... we would like to see some whales... i don't now if that's predicatble...

We're also still deciding about how long we are staying... We are going to S. Miguel, cause we have a friend there, but i would like to check out one or other island? What do you reckon? Does it take very long to go by boat? By plane must be expensive... which islands do you recommend, besides S.Miguel?

Txs in advance!...
