Ferries in the Triangulo in January Posted: Wed October 21, 2009 11:49 AM UTC
Hi,
i am trying to find out the timetable for the Transmaçor ferries in January. On their website transmacor.pt they have posted their winter timetable, which always used to be valid from October to May, but this year it says explicitly that it is only valid until 31 December 09. I need to know the times in January too though to plan my itinerary! I have emailed them but have received no answer, and any Google search i tried failed to deliver. Does anybody know how i could obtain the information. I would be most grateful for any advice!
Muito obrigado
Matthias

September visit to Ponta Delgada Posted: Fri September 4, 2009 10:05 PM UTC
How easy is it to get a taxi for sightseeing at the cruise ship arrival point? My husband and I would like to see as much as possible in very limited time. We arrive on September 30th at midday and depart again at 23.00hrs.What sort of price would we be looking at for per hour? Sylvia

Anyone been to Terceira recently? Posted: Tue September 1, 2009 10:59 AM UTC
We're plotting a secret surprise for my sister's 60th birthday. Our Dad was stationed on the island during the War and we'dlike to go there for sentimental reasons.
I've found a hotel in Praia and was wondering if anyone has knowledge of it.
It will be very difficult to get there from UK, but we'll attempt it!It'll be a long flight, stopping off at Lisbon...

Island hopping Posted: Sun December 28, 2008 04:15 PM UTC
I'm planning a 2nd trip to the Azores in summer with 4 walking friends, to see some the islands we 'missed' two years ago:
* Sao Miguel and Flores,
* Maybe Corvo or Graciosa or Santa Maria
* And again: Pico en Sao Jorge (which we liked very much).
About Pico and Sao Jorge I have quite enough information. Of the other islands I would like to know:
* are there camping’s? I couldn't find a list on the internet.
* If not, do you have some tips about nice B&B's?
* I've heard the flights of SATA between the islands in summertime have to be booked early - how early?
* Is there any information on boat schedules on the internet?
* What is the best tour, starting in Sao Miguel or finishing?
Thank you for helping us to plan a next unforgettable trip!

What kind of public transportation is available on São Miguel?
Is it possible, for example, to visit Furnas and Terra Nostra gardens by using public transportation? I will be staying in Ponta Delgada.
Thanks,

I'm traveling to Sao Miguel in September and will have a 5 hour layover in Terceira. Would it be reasonable to leave the airport and see some of the island? Any suggestions on a quick side trip and estimated travel times?

Few hours in Ponta Delgada Posted: Mon March 12, 2007 10:12 PM UTC
We will be in Ponta Delgada on a 4 hour plane lay-over this Saturday. Can anyone tell me how far it is from the airport into the center of town, and is there a nice (not expensive) restaurant you can recommend. Any sights you can recommend, besides walking around to soak up the local feel?
Are taxis metered and how much should a trip airport/town center cost?
Any other places we can see in that amount of time?
Thank you for any comments.

Accomodation and diving club in Horta Posted: Sat March 3, 2007 08:48 PM UTC
Hello travellers and kind hosts,
I am a young marine biologist from Croatia. I am planning to visit Azores in May and stay 6 months for a training. As a certified scuba diver, I would love to dive as much as possible...but, it would cost me a lot in a diving center for this period of time. So, I am wondering if anybody could help me...is there a diving club (sport club where I could become a member) in Horta? Could you tell me the approximate price for the accomodation/monthly in a normal appartment?Or, what would be a price for renting an appartent of approximately 50 quadrats?
Thank you in advance

Vacation on Sao Miguel, no car. Posted: Mon January 29, 2007 09:19 PM UTC
Hello! My wife and myself are planning a restful 12-day vacation in the Azores in June, and the Hotel Caloura in Sao Miguel seems to offer the perfect setting. However, we also want to move around a bit, and look forward to seeing as much of the beautiful sights of Sao Miguel and the Azores as we can. The problem is we don't drive, so car hiring is out. I know (and have read in previous posts) that the Caloura is a bit out of the way. I also read previous posts about the apparently absolute necessity of hiring a car. We can of course take a couple of organized sightseeing tours, but we also like to wander around by ourselves. We are fit enough to walk some distances, but of course that would not do if your target is a tens of kilometres away. So the question is, how do you move about? Is there and adequate public transport system? How much would, for instance, a taxi ride cost if one wanted to spend the evening in Ponte Delgado and return? Also: are there day visits to some of the other islands, Pico, for instance?
Advice would be very much appreciated. Or shall we call this vacation off? (The question is not serious, of course.)

What to do in a few hours? Posted: Sun January 21, 2007 03:57 PM UTC
We will be arriving on a trans-Atantic cruiz in April. How much will we be able to do in a few hours? Do the ships have tours? If so, do you think it is best to go on their tour or to go by ourselves?
Thanks

The Azores Posted: Wed September 27, 2006 03:56 PM UTC
Here's a question for you!
I'm considering a holiday in the Azores next August. Does anyone know if there is much nightlife? By nightlife I dont mean 'all night discos', but more busy restaurants and cafe/bars at night. Secondly are there many cockroaches?? A real fear of mine.
Would appreciate any help or advice of my fellow VTers whi have been there
