Belo Horizonte Bus information between Belo Horizonte and Betim
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 02:17 PM UTC
We speak English and pretty good Spanish but have no experience in Brazil. So we wanted to know if we can expect to get by well without Portuguese but with English and Spanish in Belo HOrizonte. We are attending meetings during the day in Betim
for about six days in a row, some meetings may start early in the morning and go to late at nite. How is the bus schedule between Betim and Belo HOrizonte, where we will be staying.

Thanks so much for your help. Ellen

Estado de Minas Gerais Travel in Minas Gerais while based in Santos Dumont
Posted: Fri May 4, 2007 04:02 PM UTC
Hi,
I am going to be staying in Santos Dumont for a few weeks and really want to visit Ouro Preto, the Itacolomi Park, Sao Thome das Lettres and Sao Joao del Rei

It looks like it might be easiest to drive to these places than go by bus. So I was hoping for some advice on

1) How easy is it to drive around and how long might it take to get to these places ? (I am used to driving in the UK and the USA)

2) Where is the best place to get a car ? The airports at Belo H and R de J seem to be the only places in the area with car hire

3) Should I just see if I can find a guided tour that goes through the area ?

I have never been to Brazil before and as a geologist am really excitied about seeing Minas Gerais so I would appreciate any help you can give me

Thanks

Estado de Minas Gerais Want To Fly From Pocos de Caldas Airport
Posted: Tue November 21, 2006 11:17 PM UTC
I will be in Pocos de Caldas in December 2006, I'm hoping to rent a Cessna 152, 172 182 or Piper to explore the area.

Any one familiar with the Pocos de Caldas Airport? I have the general Pocos de Caldas Airport info; runway bearing, length, communication/navaid freqencies, location, etc.

Does Pocos de Caldas Airport rent aircraft?

Any contact information for the Pocos de Caldas Airport.

Don

Now I know my schedule: I have my last meeting in Rio in Wednsday in the afternoon and will be ready there at 4 pm. On Thursday at 2 pm I have to be in Pocos de Caldas. Is this manageable?? Hi VT friends! I am going on a business trip to Brasil in 3 weeks and I am supposed to travel to Sao Paolo, Rio and Pocos de Caldo. My question: what is the best way to go, are there flights from Sao Paolo to Pocos de Caldo and then to Rio? how many times a day, where can I find this out? Or how about going by bus? From SP to Pocos it is about 4 hours by bus I think, but what about from Pocos to Rio? And does anyone know a nice hotel in Pocos de Caldo? Thank you so much!

Oi,
When I travel to Salvador I plan on studying Portuguese. I am trying to find out if there are any 2 year or commmunity colleges in Salvador. I am familiar with the language schools and the Universidade Federal de Bahia, but I am seeking out small colleges. Also, does any one know what months the schools start? (UFBA) has a web site, but it is in Portuguese. Obrigado.

Estado de Minas Gerais Exchange Student to Juiz de Fora, MG
Posted: Mon May 9, 2005 09:50 PM UTC
I'm an exchange student with Rotary International and I'm leaving for Juiz de Fora in July. I'll be attending school and living with about 3 host families, for a year total. I'm looking for information about how to get along in school and with my host family, Brazilian culture/customs/taboos, and how to fit in/make friends. Also, 2 questions: 1) Do guys in that area wear Speedos? 2) Are Brazilians really obsessed w/ soccer? Any help would be really appreciated, thanks.

Belo Horizonte Student travel from Sao Paulo to Belo Horizonte
Posted: Fri May 21, 2004 08:12 AM UTC
I'm going to be traveling in early July to Belo Horizonte to attend the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, and a group flight is arranged by my home university for as far as Sao Paulo (as the students are going to various universities and have different departure points from there on). The issue is, I'm flying into the GRU airport, and I can't find a cheap flight -- or any flight for that matter -- flyring from there directly to the PLU airport (the one right by UFMG's campus) in BH.

I was considering taking a bus... but I'll be carrying maybe 2 or 3 larger pieces of luggage and i was concerned about them getting lost, stolen, or me not being able to take all of them aboard (what are the luggage restrictions for the bus, anyway?). This will be my first trip to Brazil, and I'd like for things to go as smoothly as possible... so what would you recommend for traveling from Sao Paulo to BH?

--Laura
- O, and by the way, how much are taxis in Sao Paulo and BH, if anyone knows.

Montes Claros Lodging in Montes Claros
Posted: Thu April 15, 2004 01:15 AM UTC
Does anyone know of any rental homes, apartments, or such in Montes Claros? I may be transferred to a new pharmaceutical plant there for a year, and was just wondering how hard it would be to find a place in town, around town or what not, and how much the average price is. I'm in the US and don't speak a lick of Portuguese, so I'm in dire need of some local help! I would like to converse with anyone who knows the area and could give me some advice on places to see, stay, stay away from, customs, culture and anything else! Thanks...

São Tomé das Letras visiting sao tome das letras
Posted: Sun January 25, 2004 11:43 AM UTC
Hello!
I am visiting Brasil from Australia, and would love to spend a few days in Sao Tome das Letras, but I am struggling to find any information on the internet.
Does anybody know how I can get there? From what I can gather it is easier if I go to Caxambu first, so is it possible to get a bus (or taxi) to STdL from there?
Can anybody recommend a place to stay? I am just starting to learn Portugese, but it is limited, so it is easier for me to e-mail than phone.
Is it possible to turn up and get accommodation without pre-booking (it is for three fo us, in early April)?
We want to visit because it has been described as one of the seven sacred cities of the world, so any information to this end would be most appreciated.
Thank you so much,
Serene xx
