I'm a female going to Santos with my son to play soccer. I am concerned about kidnapping, rape and other crimes. Thinking of staying at the Mecure. Does anyone know about the safety of this area and the hotel? I'm really thinking of chickening out.

My 2 teenage daughters are going on a mission trip with their youth group next month (mid June) for 10 days. We went to the pediatrician today to get their regular immunizations taken care of. While their I asked for a script for malaria and typhoid. I was told by the youth group leader they would need Malaria pills, Typhoid pills or and yellow fever immunization. So today the doctor gives me a script for Atovaquone. But she didn't write the strength on it. Also they would have to take it 4 times a day. It would be 200 and some dollars for the lesser strength and 530.00 for the stronger one. I was told by one of the other mom's that she got her daugther the once a day medication but she couldn't remember which one and she has Kaiser so her cost would be different.
So I am wondering should I ask for a different prescription and if so which one? Wondering which one is the least expensive, least side effects, and easiest to take, and would hopefully only have to be taken once a day. Our insurance does not cover travel medications/immunizations. The least expensive yellow fever I could find was at Walgreens for 125.00 a piece.
Any help is much appreciated!

Hi-
This is a simple question. Should I exchange currency in US or Brazil? Or simply get money from the atm/banks. I will be going to Ecuador May 13 to May 23 and then heading to Brazil. Since I'll be using US dollars, I wanted to see if it would be more economical to simply get Brazil $ there?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I will be staying about a day and a half in Recife. My hotel is in Boa Viagem and the same amount of time in Olinda. Any recommendations on where to eat (I love the world of food) and what to see and do in a limited amount of time. I love to walk as long as it is safe. Thanks for any recommendations.

Hello My Friends,
I am traveling to Brazil again, arriving to Sao Paulo on Sunday morning and need some suggestions on what to do. I am staying near the Ibirapuera Park.
I have three questions:
1. Are there any outdoor markets that you may recommend?
2. Are there any professional soccer games being played in Sao Paulo next week?
3. Any recommendations on where to golf?
Thanks in advance!
Will

Hi,
I have booked a flight to Manaus from the 4th until the 10th of May. Should I already make reservations for a hostel and jungle tours up front? Is the city of Manaus itself worthwile visiting? Or should I go straight to a jungle lodge?
All tips are very appreciated!
Thanks,
Elisabeth

hi there
I am in Brazil for a few weeks and I would like to take samba classes- I have had some experience in Australia and I dance a lot of other latin styles also. I am interested in private lessons mainly but also group classes. I have tried to contact Vai Vai samba school in Sao PAulo with no luck. I will be in Londrina for a week to visit friends so would like to find somewhere there. I will also be in Rio for a week and in Curitiba. If anyone knows of any dance schools or teachers I could contact it would be great!
thanks a lot

Husband Might be going to Rio 20 years after. He went the first time. IF he goes he wants me to accompany him. I've been yo conferences with hm before and end up staying on my own in a hotel. I'm in my late 60s, a bit unsteady on my feet and wonder if I will be OK wandering on my own.
It will be early June which I believe is not too hot. I live in Africa where it can be very hot but we don't have a humid climate.
Is there really enough to occupy my time for a couple of weeks - or must I take my Kindle and fill it with books>

Arriving at Sao Paulo-Guarulhos airport. Not sure about arrival time yet. Have a meeting in Sao Jose dos Campos the next day. Looking for recommendation for the best way to get to Sao Jose? Can I get transportation at the airport? I do not want to rent a car. Any idea about cost?

I am traveling alone and a bit nervous. Any tips on getting from GRU to Terminal Rodovario Tiete. Taxi or bus and where to catch it, pay for it. Once at Tiete I need to find a bus to Mococa (any idea of what that would cost) I think it is the Nasser company but I am having difficulty reading the schedules or contacting them. Where do I find ticket offices at Tiete. I have heard that it is very dangerous for me to take the bus from the airport and then to be in Tiete and take another bus to Mococa. I do not speak Portuguese. I simply have no idea where to go to get tickets to wait for buses.
Thank you for any help

I will try and make this as clear as possible. I am an American citizen. I have a tourist visa for Brazil. I know that I am allowed to be in brazil for 180 per year up to 90 days at a time. My question is this: If my first trip was in April 30th 2011, when does my year restart? does my counter go back to 0 on April 30th 2012? Or does it restart in January 2012? Or say if I went on September 1st of 2012 would it count all of the days that I have been there from September 1st 2011 to September 1st 2012 as my year timespan?

Hi,
we're going to brazil at the End of August. Unfortunately we only have 18 days for our trip. However we'd like to see many many things ;)
Right now we've planned to fly into Rio, spend 2 days there and then head out to Pantanal and Bonito (5 or 6 days). From there we'd like to go to Iguazu and then back to Rio to see Ilha Grande and Paraty. Do you think that would be manageable? or is it too much flying/travelling in too little time? is it best to do alle the distances by plane? Should we book the tickets (flights, busses, tours) in advance (from Germany) or could we just do it once we're there?
Thanks a lot for your help!
Beste regards,
Katha

What would be my best bet buying a SIM card for Brazil, it seems that Oi and Claro generally get the best comments. Have a SIM lock free Nokia (900-1800-1900 Hz) and will be travelling from Mata Grosso to Minas Gerais up to Bahia (if that matters).
Any comments about that or maybe recent experiences (don´t need to call much, only some local calls for about one month).
Thanks answering,
Harry

My wife and I are possibly planning a short visit to Brazil. We hosted a young Brazilian girl in our home about 12 years ago - she's getting married the first of September, and we're looking into attending her wedding. We would probably arrive a week to ten days prior, and leave a few days after. Most likely fly into/out of São Paulo. While we're hoping to get advice from our Brazilan "daughter", I would love suggestions as to what to do in our short time in Brazil, travelling from São Paulo to Tupã, any tips... I'm sure that her family and her will be quite busy leading up to the wedding, so we'll to be somewhat self-sufficient for at least part of our trip! Thanks!

Hi there,
I will arrive in Fernando de Noronha for my honeymoon on the 8th of May, after staying overnight in Natal on the 7th, I have two big questions:
How is the weather going to be? some big showers of rain and all the rest of the day sunny, or is it likely to be cloudy all day long? I was checking the airport information and it looks like it is the most rainy month in the year!
Also, how about money? as I will stay 9 nights on the island and I read there's no ATM, I guess we should get some R$ in Natal the day we arrive. Would a budget of 200R$ per day be enough for us? Let's say a total of 2000R$ for two people for 9 days on the island? (We already paid for the accommodation).
Thanks!!!
Alberto

Hi. I am arriving in Santos, Brazil on the 1st April 2012 and satying until 15th April 2012.
Does anyone know of a one or two bedroom apartment that would be available during that period.
I am after a spot near Gonzaga, Jose menino or Bala de sao Vincente or anywhere along that side of the island if possible.
I am English and will be looking for a relaxing two weeks. I am also looking to stay permanatly so will be a good base to locate long term apartments.
Thank you for your help and any responses that are posted. Kevin

What do you think?
