Belo Horizonte Bus information between Belo Horizonte and Betim
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 02:17 PM UTC
We speak English and pretty good Spanish but have no experience in Brazil. So we wanted to know if we can expect to get by well without Portuguese but with English and Spanish in Belo HOrizonte. We are attending meetings during the day in Betim
for about six days in a row, some meetings may start early in the morning and go to late at nite. How is the bus schedule between Betim and Belo HOrizonte, where we will be staying.

Thanks so much for your help. Ellen

Rio de Janeiro Accommodation in Rio de Janeiro
Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 09:55 PM UTC
I am looking for accommodation during Carnival 2009. I'm on a budget so have been looking at hostels. I'm not sure of the best place to base myself. I know that Lapa is close to all the action but am wary that it could be too loud and am worried about safety. I have found a cheap hostel in Botafogo but haven't heard much about this area, is it safe? Would it be too far away from the Sambadrome? Lastly, I was thinking of staying in Copacabana or Impanema but these are further away from the sambadrome - how is the transport with regards to cost and safety. Hopefully somebody out there has some good advice.

Thanks

Posted: Fri April 25, 2008 03:01 PM UTC
I will be travelling south from Recife and am planning on visiting these places. Is it better to go to Salavador first and then to Lencois or straight to Lencois and then Salvador? I ask as I will be continuing south to Itacare afterwards.

Also how much time is needed for trekking in the Chapada Diamantina to explore properly and is it necessary to have a guide?

Thanks!

Brazil Iguazu-Rio-Brasilia-Amazon in 3 weeks. Is this even possible?
Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 01:44 PM UTC
Hello everyone,
My friend and I are coming to Brazil on July 1, and are planning to spend 3 weeks there. We would like to start at Iguazu falls, make our way to Rio (and spend a few days there), then go to Brasilia for a couple of days, and then do some sort of an Amazon tour from East to West... and finally end up in Peru.
This seems very daunting: we have 3 weeks and a tight budget. Here are my questions:
1. Is this even feasible or should we scratch it and come up with a new plan?
2. How long would it take to get to each of these places if we are not flying?
3. Are there cheap flight options, or flight passes within Brazil?
4. Is it possible to trek all the way from Eastern Amazon (lets say Belem) through Brazil and into Peru?
5. If not, where can we find a cheap flight from Brazil into Peru?

Thank you so much!

Brazil Single Female traveller in Brazil August 2008
Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 10:46 AM UTC
Hi,

I'm planning on going to Brazil this August but I'm going by myself - is this crazy? I've done various bits of travelling before, but never by myself.

I'm planning on sticking to the north because the weather should be better but ending in Rio.

Is it easy to get buses and places to stay? Any idea on the costs envolved at that time of yr? Also any good recommendations of the beaten track..!?

thanks for any help,

Estado de São Paulo Sao Paulo
Posted: Sun April 13, 2008 01:36 PM UTC
Hello,
I will be in Sao Paulo the 24st of april. We will travel from Sao Paulo to Foz Iguazu. Before making the bus trip to Foz we would like to spend a few days ( 2 - 3 days) near Sao Paulo. We've already visited Sao Paulo several times.
Are there nice places to visit in the surroundings of Sao Paulo ( 2 or 3 hours by bus is no problem ) or places to visit on the way from Sao Paulo to Foz ?
Thank you .

We are a group of 3 male friends traveling together, and planning to spend 3 or 4 days on Ilha de Boipepa, in August. Is anyone familiar with either the Pousada Tassimirim or the Pousada Santa Clara? If so, can you tell me a little about the owners and the ambience of these places?

Many thanks!

Ilha de Fernando de Noronha what's the weather usually like (at the end of March, beginings of April)?
Posted: Wed April 9, 2008 09:31 AM UTC
Hi VTs

I was thinking about visiting Fernando de Noronha at the end of March, begining of April next year, so one ofmy main concerns was the weather. I checked the current weather on the usual website, like weather.com, and it's not looking good.

I also looked for comments on the local weather and found the following info. Here (http://www.noronha.com.br/english/environ.htm) they say that:

"The climate is tropical, with two well defined seasons: the rainy season from January to August, and the dry season for the rest of the year. The heaviest rains occur between March and July, sometimes reaching almost 8 inches in 24 hours in March and April. October is the dryest month, when rainfall will not be greater than 0.36 inch in a 24 hour period. The average temperature is 77° F, with a variation of only 7.4°. The hottest months are January, February and March. The relative humidity varies little from 81.5 % due to the islands characteristics. Average annual sunshine is 3.215 hours per day, with a maximum in November and a minimum in April."

Here (http://www.discoverbrazil.com/destinations/brazil/fernando-de-noronha-weather/) they say that:

"The island can be visited any time of the year. Temperatures are always warm and mild (26°C or 79°F), with a gentle breeze. The climate is tropical, with two well defined seasons: the rainy season from January to August, and the dry season for the rest of the year.
The heaviest rains occur between March and July, sometimes reaching almost 20.3 cm (8 inches) in 24 hours in March and April. During this season the island is green and at its most beautiful and the temperature slightly cooler. October is the driest month, when rainfall will not be greater than 0.91cm (0.36 inch) in a 24 hour period. The average temperature is 25° C (77° F), with a variation of only a few degrees.
The hottest months are January, February and March. The relative humidity varies little from 81.5 % due to the islands characteristics. Average annual sunshine is 3.215 hours per day, with a maximum in November and a minimum in April. Best times for Surfing From December to February/March the waves are perfect for surfing.
Best times for Diving and Snorkeling August through December are the best months for diving and snorkeling in the Mar de Dentro (Atlantic north coast of island, facing the mainland, where the bays are more protected). Between January and March the Mar de Fora (south coast of island) is calm and excellent for diving and snorkeling."

I'm sure there are many other such comments, so my only questions are: is it really a bad ideea to visit Fernando at the end of March, beginings of April (i.e. what looks to be the hight of the rainy season) and try to do some diving? Would it be a much better ideea to visit the island in August, September, October?

Any comments/suggestions you may have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Bùzios best beach wedding location(s)
Posted: Fri April 4, 2008 06:22 PM UTC
I'm getting married in Buzios too! I unfortunately will not get the opportunity to see the area before we travel for the big event, so this makes planning difficult. I am hoping to get some good suggestions on which of the many beaches would be best suited for a small ceremony (no chairs or big props or anything, just small, quiet and secluded preferably) - and does one need to get a permit or permission of any kind to gather a small group (30ish) at the beach for an hour?

Also, I'm looking for restaurant suggestions for rehersal dinner and for dinner after the wedding. Any place that would be great for groups? The more local and traditional the cuisine the better...

Thank you for your help! And if anyone knows of other places to look for this kind of information it is greatly appreciated! I can't wait to go!
