Brunei Jerudong Park
Posted: Mon August 3, 2009 11:15 AM UTC
Hi, looking for a bit of current information on Jerudong park we have heard that many of the rides have been closed/sold....actually been a long time since we were last there and there (four years) was a festival the next day when we were there and a lot of the rides were closed....we did get to go on the log flume and the roller coaster and the tower and some little peddle boat thing...we are wondering if even less are open now or about the same?? We have heard they are selling the rides or they just aren't going so want to confirm if its worth a trip out that way again are the gardens still pretty and grounds well looked after?? There will be new people coming along this time never been to Brunei before so thinking might be worth going out that way??

Borneo Is Borneo safe for a 5 year old
Posted: Sat July 11, 2009 11:38 PM UTC
Hi, my partner and I are looking to take our 5 year old son to Borneo in September this year and have read some travel warnings on our NZ Govt website. We are keen to gain some experienced feedback on whether it is safe to travel there with our son and if there are any areas in particular we should stay away from. We would generally take organised tours but also keen on any recommenations you have. We are looking to travel to both Sarawak and Sabah so any information is welcome. Thanks heaps.

Borneo What do you recommend for a 3 days trip in Kota Kinabalu?
Posted: Fri May 29, 2009 04:09 PM UTC
Hello! I will be travelling to Borneo in Novembre with 3 other friends and will be in Kota Kinabalu from 4th to 7th of Novembre. I am interesting in seeing as much as I can, but unfortunatelly the time is short. So what would you recommend? I saw some package tour regarding a night safari at danum valley. Is it worth going? Also, I would like so much to spend a night in the jungle. Looking forward to your advices! Thanks! :)

Borneo Recommended time required in Borneo
Posted: Mon April 27, 2009 07:50 PM UTC
Hi, I am considering going to Borneo as part of my year trip & was just wondering what was considered a reasonable amount of time to travel around this island in order to see the majority of sights? I see some people are talking about only a couple of weeks but I don't know if that would be enough or if a month would do the island more justice? Thanks.

Brunei Is this even worth considering?
Posted: Wed April 22, 2009 04:54 PM UTC
My wife and will be staying in Kota Kinabalu for a few days. Since we're so close to Brunei, I've looked at the quickest way to visit in one day. This is what I've found out (with Brunei Airlines):

The flight will arrive at Brunei Airport at 10.10.
It departs Brunei Airport at 16.55

This means a window of about 6 hours.

For 2 people the flights only cost £113 all in!

But is this trip feasable? How long will border formalities take at Brunei Airport? How long does a taxi take to get into the city and how much would it cost? And what time would we have to be back at the airport for our flight back? It's an international flight, so is it 3 hours - and if so, it hardly seemd worth it.

Any thoughts would be welcome

Brunei Help: a day in Brunei and a romantic/unusual birthday activity in Sarawak/Sabah
Posted: Wed March 18, 2009 09:20 AM UTC
I'm taking my fiancee to Borneo for her 30th birthday.

We fly into BSB, Brunei at 8:35 am and leave for Kota Kinabalu at 5pm (having just endured a rather long flight). Keen to have a pleasant, interesting, non-exhausting day in Brunei (which neither of us have ever visited). What do you suggest we do?

I'd also really appreciate any tips about what to do on her actual birthday, when we'll either be in Sabah or Sarawak. I'd like a really cool day/overnight trip with somewhere romantic to drink champagne (or as near as possible) in the evening. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Borneo advice on sabah/sarawak
Posted: Tue March 10, 2009 02:13 AM UTC
hi.we are thinking of visiting kinabalu, doing the river cruise near sandakan and visiting the mulu caves.
we don't intend on doing a lot of trekking - just the basic amount needed to get to visit the caves and part of the tour.
however I am travelling with older travellers in their late 50s and we're not very adventerous so we wanted to be aware of certain things before we made our booking. in particular:
1. how big is the problem of leeches during treks or is it confined to only very deep jungle treks?
2.are leeches a bother during the river cruise and overnight stay in the rainforest lodge?
3. how much can you avoid leech bites really by wearing leech proof socks and long pants and shirts?
many thanks for all replies

Borneo Travelling to Borneo from London
Posted: Wed January 7, 2009 01:08 PM UTC
Hi guys,

I am looking at doing some travelling this year. I like the look of Borneo! I’m thinking the easiest way is a direct flight to Brunei from London and then travelling to either Sabah or Sarawak. I’m thinking Sabah due to the mountain range, white water rafting etc. Firstly, is it easy to travel from Brunei to Sabah via either train, bus or boat? I didn’t really want to get a connecting flight. Has anyone done it this way?

Also, is there any bungee jumps in Sabah at all?

Do most people when they go exploring Borneo stay in Longhouses? Is it advisable to travel to Borneo without booking up any accommodation? I was thinking of maybe staying a couple of nights at a hotel in Brunei and then spend the rest of the 2 weeks in Sabah travelling about.

Do I need a visa for any of the provinces if I’m only going for 2 weeks or can I freely travel about Brunei/Sabah/Sarawak?

Many thanks in advance.

Brunei Departure Tax and Orchid Garden Hotel Questions
Posted: Sat December 6, 2008 08:45 PM UTC
Hi there
Going to Brunei just for the one day (stopover) on way to Bangkok. Because we are Aussies looks like we have to get a visa on arrival for $5. Do you also have to pay departure tax on leaving Brunei???? An if so, how much????

I have also read that there are NOT a lot of taxis around, what would be the chances of leaving the orchid garden hotel for a day in the city (shopping, sigtseeing etc etc) and NOT getting a taxi back to hotel??
Does anyone know if you can ask your taxi driver to come back at a certain time and pick you up again. Do they do that???? OR how easy is it to get local bus from city back to the Orchid garden hotel????

Has anyone stayed at the orchid garden hotel recently and used there free airport/transfers?? are they OK and reliable???

Is there anywhere around the hotel we can get a night time meal. We arrive at hotel around 6pmish and will probably want dinner. How is the food in the hotel and price wise is it reasonable to eat at hotel. (we are 4 adults travelling)

Thanks kindly for all your help in advance

Brunei Visa - Staying only one night on way to Bangkok
Posted: Thu December 4, 2008 08:08 PM UTC
Hi there

We are flying from Brisbane Australia to Brunei, overnight in hotel at burnei, then next day flying to Bangkok. Could someone please explain to me if we need a Visa to enter Brunei and/or how much and how to get one.
I have been on the Australian Gov website and it says we need a transit visa as we are staying less than 72 hours.
How much do they cost, are they easily obtained, do i get it here in Australia or at the airport in Brunei. (web site said either), but what is easier???
Any useful information about obtaining the visa would be very much appreciated.
Has anyone flown this route From Brisbane to Bangkok? Just wondering if it would be easier (dearer of course) to fly Thai airways and go direct. Your opinions again would be very much appreciated.
Any usefull information on what to do for the one day eg tours etc would also be very much appreciated.
Kind regards and thanks so much in advance.

Borneo 7 days in Borneo in January (starting in Kota Kinabalu)
Posted: Mon November 24, 2008 03:36 PM UTC
Possibility that I'll have 7 days there in late January. Flying into KK, need to fly onto KL (or China, if you can suggest an airline other than Air Asia and Cebu Pacific).

How to spend the time? Stay in Sabah, or is it worthwhile to venture south into Indonesia?

Sorry I know this question has been askes a lot for sure, but in a rush.

Thanks!

Just a quick question about the drinking age.

I have found out that the drinking age is 18 but I am wondering how much it is enforced?

What happens if my 16 year old son is caught drinking under the age of 18?
