Marrakesh Any women who've traveled solo?
Posted: Wed March 5, 2008 05:38 AM UTC
I read the thread on what to wear. Also read about some men leering more that one might be used to! Other than that, any words of wisdom from women who have traveled alone? I'll be in Spain and I'm looking into visiting Morocco, but want to hear what other solo travelers have experienced.
Also, advice on getting to Marrakesh from Tangier?

Marrakesh eco or private self-catering apartment/house/tent/
Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 03:44 PM UTC
Hi

We are undertaking a trek in September and wanted to stay on after it in Marakesh or surroundings.

Does anybody know of either eco-lodge or self-catering accommodation?

We'd rather stay with a private local and support them than some posh hotel.

Any info appreciated!
Thanks

Marrakesh Camping in the dunes in March
Posted: Fri February 15, 2008 09:36 AM UTC
Hi, I need some help

I'm organising a 5-day trip for myself and my girlfriend to marrakesh, going early march and we are keen to spend a night or two camping in the dunes.

Any tips on sorting out this part of my tour please? all the other bits have been sorted out using VT.

is it cheaper to book this part of my tour once i am in marrakesh? if so what companies would you recommend me to go to once i get there? Or have you got any good websites where i can prebook this dune adventure cheaply?

what are your personal experiences when you went into the dunes? did you do camel riding, mint tea with berbers, music, dancing, meal prepared locally then camping under the stars? that is the kind of thing i'm dreamingabout!!

please help

Marrakesh Good local guide to avoid false guides in Marrakech
Posted: Fri February 8, 2008 06:33 PM UTC
Hello,

I will be traveling with my wife for a weekend in Marrakech soon.

Can anyone recommend where I could hire a local guide?

Does anyone know a good guide you can trust to take you around? If you do I would be very happy to have a way to contact him.

How much would it cost me aproximately.

I would like to avoid having people offering themselves only for my money.

Thank you in advance.

Hi, I am looking for a nice hotel in Marrakesh 4 to 5 star. Preferably with a pool, evening entertainment and close to all the sites. I have 2 girls aged 7 & 10, so a kid friendly hotel would be ideal. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hotels we have been looking at are: el andalous ,Amine Hotel & Kenzi Farah Hotel
Many thanks

Marrakesh first time in Marrakech - where to stay???
Posted: Fri February 1, 2008 10:08 PM UTC
My husband and i are finally visiting Marrakech in March, i have wanted to go for years and i am so excited! I have been reading lots of travellers reviews on accommodation and now find myself confused on where to stay that is inexpensive and traditional. We are both sociable and not into fancy luxury accommodation so i thought about hostels so we would meet like minded people to enjoy a drink and chat with but the reviews are awful regarding safety and cleanliness. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Many thanks Paula and Jim.
The other thing we thought of is booking somewhere for first night then finding somewhere - is that recommended with it being the school easter hols??

Marrakesh Is seven days too long?
Posted: Tue January 22, 2008 04:51 PM UTC
Hi everyone. My wife and I are thinking of going to Marakesh in March. I am a bit concerned that a full seven day break might be too long. We intend to visit the main sites but don't want to find ourselves just wandering because we have nothing better to do. We thought we would stay in a 2* riad. The Company we are looking at is Riad Seduction advertised through expedia. My wife is 57 and I am 60 and we are not terribly adventurous travellers really. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Marrakesh Advice for Honeymoon in Marrakesh
Posted: Sat January 19, 2008 11:34 AM UTC
My partner, John, and I have finally decided to get married after 35 yrs!!!!! (Well we have been married to other people in between, but got back together again about 10 yrs ago). We have travelled extensively, but never to Marrakech, and we think this would be a very romantic destination for our Honeymoon. Whilst I have always loved the sun, unfortunately I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma last autumn, and now after successful surgery, I must obviously not stay out in the sun for 8 hrs a day as I would have done in the past!
So the question is this – what is the best time to visit Marrakech – is it still good in the winter months?
We would like to organise a weeks trip, that involves a trip into the Atlas Mountains – perhaps staying overnight somewhere?
So - next question! Do you know of a really romantic 'riad' type hotel, within souk area, with special double room? Can you recommend good places to eat? Do you know anywhere romantic for a night in the mountains?

Thanks, Lyndsey - Oxford, England

Marrakesh Cooking Lesson by Dutch Lady
Posted: Fri December 28, 2007 11:13 AM UTC
I have seen a site which offers a day's cooking lesson given by a Dutch lady living in Marrakesh. She takes you around the markets and helps you choose the produce that you then cook and eat. The charge is around 20 Euros including two glasses of wine.

I now cannot find the site!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
