Marrakesh Transportation to Marrakech
Posted: Sat June 6, 2009 05:44 AM UTC
Hi guys,
first trip to Morroco. What is the best way to go from Casablanca to Marrakech? I like to avoid flying if possible. Are there train lines? Do you think it is a good idea to rent a car and do the drive myself? I never been.
Thank u very much

Marrakesh Official Guide in Marrakech, any idea of price?
Posted: Wed May 6, 2009 04:43 PM UTC
Off to Marrakech in two weeks. Would anyone know what price we should expect to pay to hire an official guide for the day? Our riad is quoting us 60 euros, which seems a bit steep. Also, what is the best way to book an official guide directly?

Marrakesh Cheap 1 day trips into the High Atlas Mountains?
Posted: Tue April 14, 2009 09:38 PM UTC
Hi Everyone

My friend and I are arriving in Marrakesh on 20 April for a few days and are really keen to do a 1 day trip into the High Atlas mountains...
I think shed like to see the Tiz-n_Tichka or the Tiz-n-Test.
Where can we find CHEAP one day excursions (Im on a limited budget- prob £40/$50 max. ) Ive found some websites offering excursions but NONE of them quote prices?

I also know we can hire a grand taxi for the day and Ive seen quotes from 600-750D for the day. Is that for the whole taxi or for EACH of us??
Please tell me yr stories of where U went, what was good and most importantly the COST!
Also id like to know about day trips to Essioura in case we decide to go there.

thanks

Marrakesh Marrakesh Train Question and more...
Posted: Sat April 11, 2009 09:25 PM UTC
Hello! We hope to take the 9 PM night train from Tangier to Marrakesh and read that it can only be booked at the train station. We hope to arrive from Spain to Tangier around noon. Does anyone know if a sleeping car can be booked for the same day? If we pre-book a hotel in Marrakesh, I don't know if we will arrive in time otherwise...

Also, is it best / easiest to take the train from Fez to Tangier? Or is there a faster bus?

Looking at accommodations, I am debating between Hotel Islane, outside the Medina or Dar Marhaba or Hotel Sherazade both in the Medina. Any thoughts from anyone?
Thank you!

Marrakesh Restaurant for Get Together
Posted: Tue March 17, 2009 03:14 PM UTC
As some of you know, a VT group is getting together for a few days in Marrakesh at the end of May. And I guess I need to book one of the dinners. Any help with this would be appreciated. Here's what I need:

Restaurant Criteria:

1. Located centrally
2. Not too expensive
3. Can take reservations for around 15 people
4. Traditional Moroccan food
5. Licensed to serve alcohol
6. A place that has standard dishes for a fixed price would be a bonus
7. Another bonus would be music and entertainment

Marrakesh Marrakesh March Madness!
Posted: Fri February 13, 2009 01:42 PM UTC
Hi There,

I wonder if anyone can help me?

I'm travelling to Marrakesh on March 29th for the first time. I'm only there for a 4 day break & have a few questions. I'd appreciate any input that anyone has.

1/ I walk with a stick & was wondering if the streets in the souk are very uneven? I hear it gets muddy in the wet. Is it worth getting a guide for the first visit to the Souk?

2/ Has anyone been to Pasha? What's the nightlife like on a Sunday night? Has anyone been to 'Al Menara -Reflets & Merveilles'? Is it still open, there are no real review apart from Suvanki's brief comments. Are there really "50 dancers, acrobats, comedians and a horseback rider, who glide across the water, assisted by hi- tech special effects and a firework display.?"

3/ I read in 'Time Out Marrakesh' that the Djeema El Fna get full of drug dealers & Male Prostitutes around midnight, is that true? Do they hassle you? Is it safe? Has the square's food stalls finished around midnight?

4/ I have read only a few reviews on Les Bains De Marrakesh, Is it a good introduction to a Hammam or is it more a Spa?

5/ Can anyone add their remarks that they would do in 4 days? Things that are a must & things that are a miss!

I really appreciate anybodys remarks! Come on VT'ers help me out!

Thank You Very Much To Anyone That Can Help.

Kind Regards,

Nick.

Marrakesh how to get to Agadir or Essourra? beach location. help! we love trains!
Posted: Fri February 6, 2009 07:20 AM UTC
Hi i am new to this site but a question please to any one out there! My son and I are going to Marrakesh on Tuesday 10th Feb , just a short break till Friday. To keep us both amused, Chris, my son will troll the souks and the square gjemma el fna with me, but he would like to visit a beach area for the day. We love train travel or any really, any sugestions as to how to travel to any beach resort, how long it may take? how much it may cost? any tips at all to help us pack in as much fun things as poss in our short stay? We are quite 'lively up for it ' characters, have even been known to go to gatecrasher raves now and again! We cannot wait to get to Marrakesh....It is snowing here in England. But i am sure by Tuesday it will be clear for us to fly! I have picked up loads of tips from this site. So glad i discovered it! Thank you to all you helpful knowledgable people out there x x

Marrakesh marrakesh to fez via desert
Posted: Sun February 1, 2009 08:35 PM UTC
Me and my husband are interested in a desert camel trek. We intend to rent a car in Marrakesh, travel over the Tizi n'Tichka , pass through Ouarzazate and continue towards Dades valley. If possible, continue to Merzouga or stay overnight in a hotel by the Dades gorge. After that we are intending to try to camel trek into Erg Chebbi dune, sleep in a tent. Continue to Erfoud ( or not) and try to arrive in Fez. I have no idea if this route is possible or not. We don't want to go to Morocco without having any different experience. ( we consider going to the desert, sleeping in a tent and riding a camel, a different experience). Anyways, I can leave Marrakesh in the morning, spend 2 nights in the desert and arrive in Fez round 12:00am. We are not able to drive more than 1500 kms in these 3 days ( I even think it's too much!!!). We tried some tourists companies but their price is impossible for us (600€). We appreciate any idea about routes and about the trip itself. I apologize my English. Thank you

We may go by ourselves, or invite two of our friends to join us. Can anyone recommend a company/trip? We would like to book ahead of time over the internet. Thank you in advance!

Marrakesh Evening Meal

Strange question:
What time do people in Marrakesh usually eat their evening meal? 7:00 PM? Later? Every photo I see where people are having supper, it's pitch black out.

Thanks! Ed.

Marrakesh Bargaining for goods
Posted: Sun January 18, 2009 01:05 AM UTC
Hello,

I have only bargained once in Guatemala and I felt bad afterwards, because I know that these people do not have the resources that I have. I usually don't buy a lot when I travel (space issues). What is most people opinion about bargaining for things. I was told by a friend from Chile that "Jean when they see your toursit face, they have already marked up the price and they really expect you to bargain." Curious to see how most people feel about this issue, local and tourists. Thank you.

Marrakesh Travelling outside Marrakech
Posted: Sat January 3, 2009 12:36 AM UTC
We (2 female friends) travel to Marrakech on 5/1/09. I have the first 2 nights booked in a riad but nothing else arranged. I'd like to see something of the surrouding area or I'm prepared to stay in Marrakech a little longer. I'm prepared to hire a car but don't want to travel too far. Can anyone recommend any places we should visit and places we should stay (not too expensive). We are there until 10/1/09.

Also is Marrakech and Morocco ok for women visitors. When we went to Tunisia I hated all the male attention and the men couldn't seem to understand why we didn't want their attention!! Is Marrakech likely to be the same?

Marrakesh Marrakech two nights on a budget
Posted: Wed December 31, 2008 06:49 AM UTC
Hi there,

I am really enjoying reading all the good info in these forums. Thanks everyone!

Two of us (me and my guy) are traveling to Marrakech for the first time in a few weeks and need 2 nights accommodation and any other tips you may have on restaurants, sites and transport. Regarding accommodations, we have a bit of a journey ahead of us so budget is important but we want style, friendlyness, and a clean private room in the Medina area.

Anyway, any suggestions for Riads/guesthouses to stay in? There are sooo many gorgeous places on here to look through and many seem dated - when I visit their sites the actual rate is out of our budget.

Wanting something centrally located, inexpensive, traditional or hip, friendly, safe, clean...

(Any other suggestions for restaurants and short visit must-sees also appreciated.))

After Marrakech, we plan to take the train to Casablanca... two days in that city (have accomm).. then fly/train/or bus??? to the south of Spain (anyone with experience there - advise appreciated too!!) - (also posted in Spain)

Is the train easy enough to get on and off from Marrakech to Casa? Is the station in the Medina or a taxi away? Should we book from here or is it okay to wait until we arrive?

Lots of questions.. any help appreciated.

Best,
Shauna

Marrakesh cross the Atlas Mountains in winter
Posted: Sun December 28, 2008 07:31 PM UTC
Hi. At the end of January we will visit Marrakesh for a week. During our stay we would like to make a trip of 3 days to Ouarzazate, valley of the Draa, maybe Zagora… and visit some nice things in between. But is it possible to cross the Atlas Mountains in winter, I heard it can snow there in January. Is 3 days enough to get a small glimpse of the dessert and is it possible to rent a car and drive yourself in Morocco.

Thanks
