Ho Chi Minh City Visa advice for Vietnam
Posted: Wed July 23, 2008 07:42 PM UTC
We are going to Saigon December 18th and then onto Cebu PI the 23rd. We come back to Saigon on Jan 14th. Our round trip tickets are from Atl to Saigon and back, so we have to enter the country two times plus I would like to take a bus to Cambodia, so we will need tourist multi entry fro 30 days. What is the best method of getting our visas? We have to get the visas before we leave?
What is the smartest and safest way to purchase visas?
Thanks

Ho Chi Minh City Money Exchange
Posted: Tue July 8, 2008 03:42 PM UTC
I will be going to HCMC this weekend and am wondering what is the 'unofficial exchange rate' for US dollars and Singapore dollars at the gold shops? I know the bank rates are 12,000+(Singapore dollars) & 16,000+ (US dollars). Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Ho Chi Minh City Rainy Season
Posted: Fri July 4, 2008 03:44 AM UTC
My parents and I will be going to Ho Chi Minh in the early August for three days. I understand tat it will be rainy season so I wonder if I should book tours to go to Cu Ci tunnel and Mekong river as I afraid tat the ground might be too slippery/muddy for my parents to walk. Or shall we just do the shoppings and sight seeing in the HCMC?

Ho Chi Minh City One day Mekong delta tour and one day cuchi tunnel/cao dai tour
Posted: Wed July 2, 2008 04:01 PM UTC
I have a very short stay in saigon. I would like to ask if its better to get a one day mekong delta tour and one day cuchi/cao dai tour than getting a 2 day mekong delta tour and a half day cuchi tour?

What do you guys think? do you think one day in mekong delta is enough?

Thanks

Posted: Sat June 28, 2008 09:26 AM UTC
Hi, I was wondering if anybody knew of any details of doing a day tour that incorporated both the Cu Chi Tunnels and the Mekong in one day? I know they are available seperately but we're short on time. Details on how to book the tour would be great too.

Many thanks!!!

Ho Chi Minh City Travelling aound HCMC
Posted: Sun June 15, 2008 08:28 PM UTC
Hi
I am visiting Ho Chi Minh City in August for 4 days. I am staying quite central in the Huong Sen Hotel. Can anyone tell me if I can hire a taxi for the day to see all the major sites. It worked well in Cambodia last year and I was wondering if the same service is available in HCMC. I know some of the sites will be in walking distance but some are not.Anyone stayed at the Huong Sen Hotel? I have heard mixed reviews.

Ho Chi Minh City Former US Embassy
Posted: Fri June 13, 2008 06:06 PM UTC
I have read that the VN War era Embassy was mostly demolished but that the front walls and some small buildings remain. I've also read that the entire Embassy was demolished and replaced by the new US Consulate building. Was one person's visit just made earlier than the other so the entire former US Embassy is now gone?

I am planning a VN tour, and some tour companies presently include "driving by the old US Embassy" as part of their tour.

Ho Chi Minh City Shopping for dishware on Dong Khoi St.
Posted: Fri June 13, 2008 03:33 PM UTC
Either one or two blocks from the Majestic Hotel, on the opposite side of the street was a retail store that sold housewares. It was a two floor store, with a lot of dishware on the second floor. I would like to find out the name of the store, and how to contact it. I am interested in purchasing a bone colored dishware with blue dragon flies and vegatation on it. We saw this dishware in many places, so I believe that it is common.

We were in Ho Chi Minh last fall and fell in love with the city. We watched a "Stand There and Take It No Matter What" tournament sponsored by one of the judo studios there...a frisbee game. We do plan on going back for the horse races later this year. Has anyone been to the races?

What's the weather like the last week of July. I am considering visiting during my vacation week. I know it's the rainy season. We want to see the city but also want to spend a good part of our week staying near the beach. Is it too rainy to expect good beach weather this time of year?

I am travelling from hanoi down the coast to Ho Chi Minh (hoi an and Nha trang on the way) from 23rd July to 4th August. I am planning to do this by train. But when I get to Ho Chi Minh I am unsure of how to travel to Phnom Phen in cambodia. Can anyone give me advice on how to do this? i.e. by bus, or boat... how much it will cost and can i get the visa at cambodia border or do i need to apply for anything in advance? any other advice yo ucan give on this trip would be appreciated.

Cheers

Ho Chi Minh City Cu Chi Tunnels
Posted: Fri May 23, 2008 01:10 AM UTC
Hi everyone,

You were all so helpful re: my visa query so I thought I'd ask another question.

Can anyone tell me about the tunnels? We're going to Ho Chi Minh for a week and are going to base ourselves there and do a few day tours.

I love the sound of this trip but unfortunately I'll have to chicken out as I'm pretty claustrophobic and I don't think I will be able to actually go down into the tunnels, however my husband will be there with bells on I'm sure.
Will there be something for me to do if I don't go down into the tunnels or is it pretty much the only thing there?

Also, my husband is a bulky guy and I'm not even sure if he'll fit down there! Ha!

Is there any point in us going??

Ho Chi Minh City Visa from Australia or Vietnam???
Posted: Sat May 17, 2008 02:18 PM UTC
Hi there,

We're flying into Vietnam in October with Tiger Airways, we're in two minds about the whole visa thing.

We've been told by some people to send off for it at the Vietnamese embassy in Canberra ($70 each!!!) or to get it at Vietnam on arrival. We can't be arsed with any possible hassles at the airport, i.e if they don't like the look of you, you don't get a visa, is it much simpler than it sounds or are we better to get it in Oz before-hand?

Cheers
