I'm planning to be in Porto for New Year's Eve but I have no clue what to do or where to go for that night.
Any suggestions of what locals do, where locals have dinner if they decide to go out for dinner in New year´s eve, or does anyone know if restaurants are having specials? any bars suggestions to celebrate?
we are planning on going to Portugal for New Years eve (dec 27 to jan 10) and would like to know a little more about the region.
1-How will be the weather like during this period? too cold? are we going to be able to catch up some beaches?
2-As for the holiday, what is the typical cultural habits of the region?
3- we will be probably flying to Porto or Lisbon, any suggestions of must see areas/destinations in the region?
thank you so much for your help!
I and my sister are bringing our mum to Porto next week on Holiday. She is not the fittest these days due to an illness, so can only walk very small distances. I am considering getting a hire car for a few days so i can drive her around a bit - make it easier. Now can someone tell me if thats madness and whether i'd be better using public transport and taxi's. I'm aware parking and traffic can be murder in busy cities so wanted some honest advice.
I know it wont be easy but is it worth me getting the hire car, or will i regret it?
Can some one tell me where in Porto is the uniworld cruise terminal?
what is the address?
are there hotels near the terminal?
how do you get to the terminal other than taxi?
I was advised that this is the best way- to take the metro from airport. I need to be at a metro station called Trinidade and wondered if anyone can advise. didn't manage to find the public transport company website of Porto.
Can someone tell,if this is at hard place? We have allready booked one hotel, but it seems that this is just renovated, has swimmingpool and balconys at rooms, witc our hotel doesn´t.This has also better reviews, but some people say it´s not so centre. It seems to be in centre to me!Were is area, where most people eat out late?Is it Ribera? Our near the river overall?
I am travelling on next thursday from Porto to Lisboa. I will first be flying in by ryanair to the Porto airport, staying one night in the city and then going to Lisboa the day after.
Two very silly questions and I would be grateful for your help:
1. any particular recommendations for a night in Porto? Are there must-sees? Wikipedia gives good ideas but i'd appreciate so much your recommendations...
2. I have been told travelling by BUS is FASTER and CHEAPER than travelling by train. In either case of going by bus or train, is reservation or buying tickets online needed? I have done some reserach, didn't see much; i can read portuguese, but the websites don't seem to say that buying tickets on the day of travelling or buying earlier have much fare differences...
I found out, that ther´s interestin castle at Santa Maria de Feira, and it´s not too far from Porto. Is there local transport to the town, and mainly to the castle. Is it open to public?
Can anyone comment on staying at the Novotel Gaia during for the festival of San Joao in Porto we are a family of 4 and we are traveling with another family of 4. This place seems to accommodate our 2 families.
I am thinking that it might be just as easy to stay here and use transit or taxis to get into the Rebeiro and Porto.
We are also going to take a train/cruise up the Duoro and the port is in Gaia?
I am looking for a traihn that will take me up the Douro and then I would like to take a cruise down the Douro. Can anyone point me in the right direction or to a web site?
We are a family of 4 looking for a place near the river or with a view of the river so far I have found this hotel Pestana Porto but it is over 200$ Canadian.
OK, this has to be one of the silliest questions in the forum. I have to catch a couple of tight train connections, and I usually prefer having my tickets bought ahead of time. Is there any reason why I should *not* pre-purchase?
I've been holding off in case of changes, but now - !!! - the trip is here.
They're early tickets and sometimes the station cashiers don't open in time, plus I don't care to fumble thru the ticket counter if I'm sure where I'm going.
Any thoughts?
Not talking about Cascais tickets, referring to Porto - Pinhao - Lisbon tickets.
I will arrive in Barcelona at 9:05 AM from the US.
The last train from Porto to Pinhao is at 17:15 from Campanha Station.
TAP has a flight leaving BCN at 10:35 direct which arrives Porto @ 11:25 and at 10:40 with layover in Lisbon arriving Porto @ 13:25.
*** I AM not sure that I will make either of those flights with a 9:05 arrival that could be late then go thru customs ***
I have been looking for bus connections from Porto to Pinhao but have not found a link. Thought I had one, but the one I saved is for Braga.
Just wanted to know what to expect from Ryanair when flying out of OPO. Any/all advice would be helpful, especially if you can comment on the route going to Stansted. Thank you!
Other than the Pestana Porto Hotel, which seems a bit pricey, can anyone recommend a hotel in that area that is nice, with river views, boutique, that is somewhat less than the Pestana? TIA, Karl
I am looking at changing the first night I'm spending in Porto to staying in Pinhao overlooking the Douro. I arrive in Porto around 16:00
FIRST PART:
I found the scenic Douro train in the cpt.pt site but it does not originate in Porto. I also looked to see about a train to Regua, but none came up, even doing the Site Map for cpt.pt.
Any idea how to get from Porto to Pinhao with luggage arriving Porto 16:00?
SECOND PART:
Has anyone taken a boat to cruise the Douro leaving Pinhao in the morning towards Porto (with luggage) - any good companies?
This is a little different from my first post, because I'm hoping to stay overnight in Pinhao to enjoy the area even if for a little while.
If nothing works, I'll just have to book the tour from/to Porto - but I would *love* to stay overnight in Pinhao.
My friend found amazing photos of this bookshop in net,but there was no address. Is it easy to find?If you could tell me the address, and area, where to find it,it would be nice :)
Hi, i'll be in Porto early may, and i have in mind buying a GPS, one good for driving in europe, as soon as i get there. Could you, please, suggest some good shops in Porto to get the best prices(interrogation)....By the way, my intenttion is really low prices, even if it's a second hand one...
Is there public transportation from Porto to Amarante? How often? How long it takes?I thought it might be possible day-trip destination because of the old town-we love old buildings-older the better :)
Hi! I am looking for Catholic churches in Porto, where usually many people (believer) goes and celebrate high mass (with portuguese songs and language)
Do you understand? I do not look for a church where only are lots of tourists and a few locals - I search for an authentic typical portuguese mass with lots of locals and a well-stocked church.
And if you know a church like this, what are the times of mass service there?
Is there only one trainstation in Porto?if there is moer, does someone know witch one the airport-train uses?(if there is more than one airport, then that witch Ryanair uses).
If you also know where is timetable for those trains. We want to have hotel close to airport-connection,when going back home, because flight is at morning.
HOw big is Porto centre? Is everything in walking-distance?Where should we book a hotel,if we like it to be not too far(maybe around 2km) from area, where is sigsts and museums(I don´t actually know how much there is those,I will start to search now),but also close to area, where is lots of places to eat at night(I mean around 21 o´clock or little later). We also might consider a flat, but hotels seemed to be cheap!
Another question:someone told us to taste white portwine-is there a company specialised in it,and if so,is it possible to visit?
And third question:(I might find this with google, but here is so friendly helpful people, that I thought to ask this also..):Where will I find train timetables(if possible,in English)we will go to Lissabon.
