Chiang Rai Golden Triangle Tour
Posted: Sat November 7, 2009 07:23 PM UTC
Looking for a tour operator in Chiang Rai that offers one day tours to the Golden Triangle, I know there are many to choose from but would like some recommendations from those that have taken such a tour with a local agency.

Chiang Mai Suggestions for a short vacation in Chiang Mai
Posted: Thu November 5, 2009 03:51 AM UTC
Would be grateful for suggestions for my upcoming trip to Chiang Mai sometime end Nov/early Dec this year. There will be 6 of us - wife, 2 kids (teenagers) plus my in-laws who are elderly and while they are still relatively mobile they are unable to be out the entire day. So I'll be looking for a hotel somewhere in the city area.

Activities that may be of interest:
For my kids, something adventurous or unique would appeal to them. For my wife & in-laws, something cultural (say, visiting temples), shopping, crafts maybe, & perhaps short day-trips out of Chiang Mai.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Chiang Mai Palaad Tawanron Restaurant
Posted: Sat October 24, 2009 07:20 AM UTC
Hi Guys,
I read about this fabulous restaurant, Palaad Tawanron on the lower slopes of the moutain above the CM zoo, behind Chiang Mai University. Does anyone know what is the distance from the city center to this place? Also, will it be a problem if we take taxi/tuk tuk here? As in is it difficult to get taxi/tuk tuk back from here to the town center?

Chiang Mai Hypermarket nearest to Le Meridien Hotel, Chiang Mai
Posted: Fri October 23, 2009 04:58 PM UTC
Hi Guys!

Which hypermarket is the nearest to the Le Meridien Hotel, Chiang Mai? Tesco Lotus (which branch) or Carrefour? I can easily find out the actual address from their website, but I just won't know which location is nearer...

Chiang Mai Chiang Mai Floating Restaurant
Posted: Thu October 22, 2009 09:13 PM UTC
Hi Guys!
I read that the Chiang Mai Floating Restaurant is good (Ruen Phae). There are 2 branches. Which branch is nearer to the city (in km/minutes)? Or else, nearer to either Tesco Lotus or Carrefour? If we go we will have to take a tuk tuk or taxi there. Will there be a problem to get transport back from the restaurant? What is their operating hours like? Any day that they are close?

Chiang Mai Temperature Variance
Posted: Thu October 22, 2009 04:40 PM UTC
We will be in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai for 6 nights from Nov 29 till Dec 5. Checked the weather website, which states that the temperature ranges from Low of 13'c to high of 29'c. CR is slightly lower. What a huge difference in a day! Example, CM for Dec 4th, '08 - Low 14'c and high 29'c! How to pack??? Is it really that noticible?

Chiang Mai Khantok Dinner
Posted: Thu October 22, 2009 04:09 PM UTC
We will be in Chiang Mai for 3 nights as well as another 3 nights in Chiang Rai. Read about Khantok Dinner at :
Khum Khantok. THB300/pax. Includes Khon performance. Housed in a magnificent and massive Lanna building. P/up from hotel.

2. Old Chiang Mai Khantok. THB370/pax. P/up from hotel.

3. Khum Kaew Palace Khantok. THB200 per person. Traditional and hill tribe dances. Transportation included.

Which of these is better? It will be good if I can see the Khon performance since I, despite being half Thai, has yet to see that! But ambience is also a consideration as well as tasty food. Not really into audience participation, so don't really want Ramwong...
Also, since I will also be in Chiang Rai, is it better for me to wait for Khantok Dinner there? Any recommendation, please?

Northern Thailand Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai for 6 nights
Posted: Mon October 19, 2009 01:49 AM UTC
Hi Guys!
Two of us (Girls) will be visiting CM and CR for 6 nights Nov 29 till Dec 5. We plan to stay the 1st night in CM. Then on to CR for 3 nights before returning to CM for another 2 nights.

Chiang Mai Itinerary
The famous Sunday Night Market
Additional shopping
Elephant Sanctuary for elephant ride and bamboo rafting - Should I leave this tour for Chiang Rai? I read that the camps are between CM and CR. Are they closer to CM or CR?
I don't want to go to Doi Suthep since I have been before.
Read that the San Kamphaeng hot spring and Bo Sang umbrella making center are nothing much (?)
How about out of town places like Lampang, Lampoon or Mae Hong Son?

Chiang Rai Itinerary
Doi Tung (Mae Fah Luang Garden & Royal Villa)
The White Temple
Is it worth it to go on a the Golden Triangle Tour? Wouldn't that be very close to Doi Tung? Also, if that tour takes you across the border to Myanmar (read that the tour takes youa across for mini shopping at the border) are you required to have a visa for Myanmar? (We are Malaysians and I think M'sians are required to get a visa to enter Myanmar).

We will have slightly more time in CR than CM since we get 3 full days in CR. We will catch the VIP Bus to CR and back. Read that you can do the booking via phone? I speak Thai so no problem in communicating. But I can't read and their website is in Thai. Would anyone know their tel no, please?

At both places we will be staying at the Le Meridien Hotels. Any recommendations for any good eating places around there?

Northern Thailand Flight Connections
Posted: Thu August 27, 2009 05:14 PM UTC
Hello,

We are travelling around Thailand for just under a month in November. We are travelling up to Chiang Mai via the overnight train but would like to get a flight down south. I have been looking and the cheapest flights appear to be with Air Asia with a change at Bangkok.

Can anyone provide some guidance on how long we need between connecting flights i.e collecting baggage and checking in, as we aim to fly from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and then Bangkok to Phuket in the same day.

Thanks alog

Chiang Mai Chiang Mai flights
Posted: Thu August 27, 2009 06:56 AM UTC
We are arriving in Bangkok at 14.40 and would like to catch the flight to Chiang Mai at 17.15 from Thai Air. Since our journey involves connections, we are a little concerned about our luggage not arriving on time, and would like to entertain the possibility that we may have to overnight in Bangkok.

Is it possible to buy flight tickets to Chiang Mai from Thai Air at the airport, or must be book in advance?
What are the chances of there being place on the flight at the end of September? Are these flights usually booked up?

Thank you

Northern Thailand Chiang Mai - Golden Temple Trek
Posted: Mon June 29, 2009 02:08 AM UTC
Hi All,

My partner and I are doing a holiday to Thailand in November for about two weeks. We want to go to koh Samui for the last week of our trip, however in the beginning of the trip my partner wants to do some trekking through Northern Thailand. I've looked in to the 3 day treks from Chiang Mai to the Golden Temple, however we are not sure what other treks are out there. Any Suggestions? We probably only want to trek from 3-6 days at the most. Also which is the best way to get from Northern Thailand over to Koh Samui?

Thanks

Pai Hire bike with guide
Posted: Sat June 20, 2009 12:14 PM UTC
I'd like to know if I can hire a bike with a guide/rider instead of riding myself.
In Vietnam this is common practice as foreigners can't rent vehicles there. Or can I get a taxi to go out of town? I want to do some volunteering or donating to rural schools.
thanks
