We will be flying into Hurghada for two weeks from Johannesburg (Kruger Park). We are from the U.S. and want to understand some of the local customs, exchange rate and where to exchange money. I've ben reading many postings here and think we need to get VISA's at the airport or ahead of time? We are Port Safaga Lillyland Beach Club and any comments about it and the surrounding area would be great. Such as Public Transportation to Hurghada. I plan to Scuba 4-5 days and snorkel with the wife any suggestions as to good spots to snorkel? And any recommendations on dive shops and Scuba tours? I really prefer to go out diving with 6-8 people versus 20-30 on a boat. So any suggestions?

We will be staying two weeks (April)and I need to do some more research on the Internet about other sites to see while we are in Egypt. We love ancient ruins and would like to see the Pyramids and Sphinx, Luxor etc. Is it safe to rent a car? Most are saying to take a bus or plane. Any help about how far away these sites are and if we can do a few in a day trip or plan to spend a night before returning to Safaga. I am desperate to book a two week holiday at Makadi Serenity Heights in Oct or Nov 2008, i cannot find an operator to book with. Does anyone know who opereate this hotel?

The title says it all mostly. I am already qualified, but will only be taking minimal equipment. Who are the best organisers? I would be prepared to drive anywhere within reason. Also, Are there any dive sites that I should not miss? Is a trip to Sharm El Sheik recommended (if so, how is the ferry?).

Does anyone know the name of the hotel complex in between The Melia Pharo and the Coral Beach Rotana (I google Earthed the Coral Beach as I knew the name of it!)

My husband and I are planning a trip to Egypt later this year and, as we have recently got into scuba diving, would like to do the Padi Open Water Diver Certificate. We went to Sharm 2 years ago, staying at the Hilton Waterfalls, and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately we didn't do any diving there, only snorkelling.

As we would like to explore different parts of the Red Sea Riviera this time I was looking into Hurghada and found a fantastic offer for AI in the Ali Baba Palace Hotel. Unfortunately it doesn't tell me if the hotel has got a diving center offering the PADI courses. Does anyone know or can anyone recommend another hotel with a diving center on location?

Alternatively I was looking at Taba. Any thoughts about diving there or any recommandations for a different resort all together?

I am travelling soon to Hurghada, and i have read in several places about sharks in the red sea! i am travelling with my young nephews and am worried about them swimming/snorkeling in the sea......CAN SOMEONE PLEASE ADVISE?????

Can someone tell me which hotel is better, le meridien makadi bay or hilton long beach in hurghada. I am planing to go in egypt in july with my boyfriend, but i read some bad reviews about both of these 2 hotels.Can someone tell me what in these hotels is in all inclusive.I read that there is no coctels,that all inclusive bars are so bad, but if you want to sit at the beach in some nice bar you have to pay.can someone please tell me something more about all inclusive package?

I nead help deciding in which hotel to go. This is my 5th visit and would like to go to some nice hotel, with lovely beach and OK food. Nothing much. And a distance from Sakala is not of great importance.
The hotels are:

- Hilton plaza
- Hilton long beach
- Pyramisa hasheesh
- Coral sea
- Sea star or
- Sunny days Palacio

All hotels are 5* and Ai, but would like to read your impressions. I am most interested in last 4.

we are planing to be 2 weeks in Hurghada including Nil boat cruise. During our stay in Hurghada we were thinking of Hotel Paradise Golden 5. As much I know there are 5 hotels. I have read many posts and have to say I am a bit confused. Some people say it is great one (paradise golden 5) and some say it was disaster. Is there anyone of you who have bean recently in this hotel? What are your expiriences? Please help, need to confirm booking in three days. Thanks in advance!

Hello, my husband and i are going to hurghada in a couple of weeks. I know that i can purchase my visa once we land at the airport but I'm unsure about my husband as he has a ukrainian passport (with a 2 year spouse visa for the UK). I can't talk with anyone at the Egyptian Embassy as its all recorded messages.

we have been to sharm, looking at going to hurghada this year,we are planning on going in early october with two children but have heard that its not as hot as sharm at this time of year and alot windier in hurghada.

I am leaving for Hurghada in two days. I am so excited. I am going with a group of 15 divers from Croatia. I would love to go to Luxor by myself or perhaps with some of my friends, but I read a lot of things about tourist travelling by public busses. So, can it be done? What would you reccomend me? The agency proposed us a day tryp and it costs 60 EUR....I believe it is too expensive.Can somebody tell me the time schedules ( I would return the same day). How much does it cost?

My husband and 3 year old daughter are planning on going to Makadi Bay (close to Hurghada) in july or october and stay at the Grand Makadi. I have two questions:
1. Is it too hot in july? Is it better to go in october?
2. Has any one stayed at the Grand Makadi and can give us some feedback on the hotel and beach there?

Can anyone compare new Steingenberger hotel in Hurghada with Three corners ocean`s view or Movenpick in El Gouna?
I sow some bad reviews of Steingerberger in Hurghada, and am wondering if it`s better to go to El Gouna`s Movenpick?

I will be there for a week from Apr 5th. Staying at the Sinbad resort.

As I understand it, Hurghada compared with Sharm El sheikh, has more character, has more city life and is less sterile. Hurghada also seems to be better placed for visitiing Cairo, Luxor and other places on the Nile. I also understand that both places are good bases for diving. On the other hand Sharm, I hear is less windy. however It looks like Hurghada, for me is the bet place to go. Is there anything wrong with my uneducated conclusions? Can anyone confirm or deny any of this?

We are going on a vacation i n HUrhgada next monthe and we definitely want to go to papas beach and ministry of sound.but we have not found a hotel yeat. Should we better stay at a hotel which is 20 km away from hurghada or we better find one which is near those two party centers? Thyank you

I was wondering if there is a place in Hurghada that you can purchase gold or silver from for a reasonable price. I have seen that there are places in Cairo, but I was wanting to purchase it in Hurghada instead of having to travel to Cario for this. Is there a specific place that you could recommend for this?? Also if you could recommend some other good shopping areas for general shopping, that would be awsome.
