Need help identifying a scented product from the Alexandria City Centre Mall Posted: Mon June 1, 2009 09:32 PM UTC
I was at the City Centre Mall in Alexandria in January and I came across a small kiosk in the mall that sold essential oils and perfumes. The vendor also had a basket of what appeared to be chunks of soap in a basket by the cash register. I was told that it wasn't soap but you used it to rub on your skin after showering. The scent was absolutely heavenly and I....can't remember what it was!!!!! The chunks are orange/gold in color, about 2cm thick and of varying sizes and the scent had a sweetness to it that lasts forever, but is not cloying. Please help me identify this item (and where I could possibly purchase it by mail) as I am not in the position to travel back to Egypt right at this moment to find it :) Thank you

Hi

Also it seems hard to find hotels that are neither luxury tourist hotels or back packers hostels. Anyone got any ideas

cairo to alexandria airport Posted: Thu February 12, 2009 05:26 PM UTC
hi, how far is Alexandria El Borg airport from Cairo Pyramid area. I see that we need to take highway #11. How much would a taxi cost one way and how long would it take. The thing is I am trying to see if it is practical (safe- as we would be travelling in the evening)to take a flight out of Alexandria instaed of Cairo as the flights are much cheaper. I want to know if its worth the hassle including the extra taxi fare.

cruise stop in Alexandria Posted: Fri January 9, 2009 12:26 AM UTC
Hello
I will be arriving at the Alexandria cruise port on Feb 22. My understnding is I should take a taxi to the train station to get to Cairo. (We are active so we have no problem walking but have no clue how to get to the train station-is it easy and can I get directions.)
Once in Cairo I assume we jump on the Metro to go to the pyramids. which line do we take and where is the metro station. I have looked it up and it appears it is across the street??
Since we will have all day in Cairo what would the recommended sites be? And how do you get there?
We are also taking a felluca sail on the nile. What time do these run and how much are they? where do we catch the boat? is there anything we should know about this.
finally, I would like to ride a camel-or at least sit on one! (I am in Canada and we only have polar bears!!! haha)
thanks in advance! sorry for so many questions!

Cheap hotels + buses to Cairo? Posted: Sun December 28, 2008 04:47 AM UTC
Hi everyone,
I'm arriving in Alexandria tomorrow night at midnight. I need a CHEAP place to stay and options seem limited. Anyone know of a good place?
Also, I'm going to leave the next morning for Cairo. How do you get there? I'm currently in Tehran, so I'm pretty much doing this blindly with no guidebooks and very limited Internet resources. Any/all advice is greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks.

Regency hotel Alexandria? Posted: Thu August 7, 2008 02:24 PM UTC
Have anyone stayed at the Regency hotel Alexandria?
I am planning to stay there with my family (husband and two sons) for one week in the end of August, they offered us a sea view suite for 750 Egyptian pound/night (approx 90 Euros), does it worth it? or we can get a better place for this price?
Last year we stayed at the Petit Coin hotel which was rated 3 stars, but in cleanliness and service I can not give it more than 1 if any stars.

I will need a hotel first, then find an apartment for a year starting this August. The only address I can find for Alexandria University is "El-Shatby". Would appreciate any information!

Suez route from Alexandria to St. Catherine's Monastery Posted: Fri March 14, 2008 08:21 PM UTC
I plan to hire a car for the daylight drive from Alexandria to St. Catherine's Monastery. I am wondering if a drive by Port Said and across the suspension bridge is the most scenic way to travel. Any suggestions as to the route? I believe there is a view point along the way, if it is still open. What about a stop at the ancient turqoise mines in the Sinai? Thanks for the help.

Need your help to plan Alexandria trip... Posted: Tue November 20, 2007 07:26 PM UTC
I am traveling to Egypt soon on short holiday trip and will be landing in Alex at Bourg Al Arab airport. I have few questions. I will be grateful if fellow Vters may help me out:
(1) What is the best way to get from airport to the Corniche area? Are there any metered taxis that I could hire from airport? How much will I have to pay in local currency for this trip from Bourg Al Arab airport to downtown?
(2) I heard of a papyrus-making institute in Alex. How far is it from Corniche area? I will like to go there so suggest me the mode of transportation and fare to pay.
(3) Can any one recommend me any good gym near Regency Hotel in corniche street where I can pay them for gym use on daily basis?
(4) How far is train station as I wanna take Turbo train to Cairo. How to get there? I will be staying at Regency hotel in Corniche street. How much will be appox fare in local currency from my hotel to train station?
(5) Can I get turbo train ticket on same day before I wanna travel or should I buy it a day advance?
(6) Till what time is ticketing office open in train station to buy 1st class turbo train ticket to Cairo? How much is the fare?
(7) Any good spots for clubbing that you could suggest? Especially near Corniche street.
(8) Any good Italian and Lebanese good restaurants and coffee shops in Corniche area?
(9) Could you suggest me any good money changers in corniche street area who offer good rates for US dollars?
Sorry for so many questions but your input will greatly help me in planning this trip. Thanks for your time!
