Cairo Egypt to Israel and Back
Posted: Sat March 22, 2008 06:41 PM UTC
Hi,

I am intending to visit Egypt this winter and would enter and leave from Cairo. I would also like to spend some days in Israel. I don't thing they have any direct air connection. If you know how I might work this out, I would very much appreciate any suggestions. Thanks a lot.

Is is ok to visit the Egyptian Museum on your own or is it better to go with a tour guide to show you the important bits?

Cairo Travel agents Cairo
Posted: Wed March 12, 2008 03:22 AM UTC
Hi
I know this question has been asked many times, and the answer is check that the agents company is registed with the Gov tourist board on its web site. But I have been trying over the last week and have not been able to enter this web site it appears to be off line. I wanted to check the two agents that I have picked for the final choice. They are Mike Travel/egyptlegend.and Arab Travel Agency.
Could someone check for me and let me know as I would like to book as soon as possible.
Also the Longchamps Hotel seems to be of line also or its my computer, has anybody had the same problems.
Thanks David

Cairo Tickets to pyramids
Posted: Tue March 11, 2008 10:30 AM UTC
I'm going back to Egypt next week after 7 years. Like them, I and my family are travelling on our own. Last time it was easy to buy tickets to enter the pyramids on the spot. We went early. Don't know if things are still the same. I'm not very keen on joining a tour as we want to take our time and many tours don't even include entering the pyramids. This is a must as it is a promise to my 7 year old son. This trip is for him.
Information anyone? Thanks a lot!

Cairo Organized tour for Mum
Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 12:47 PM UTC
Hi all,

I am brand new to the web site and am posting this on behalf of me and my sister.
We are trying to organize a surprise 60 th birthday trip for mum to Egypt- it has been her dream destination for years.
We are sending her from Melbourne Australia and as she has hardly travelled we were thinking an organized tour would be best.

Has any one any experience with any tours they found good - and that would be suited to that age group
The ones we were shown by the travel agent were ' insight' and bench international'- any comments on either of these.

She would also absolutely love to be involved in or watch an archeological dig of some kind- i dont have a clue where to start looking to see if this is possible to arrange- any one have any ideas, or done something like this before.

Hope someone can help

Thanks

Cairo One day in Cairo (except museum and pyramides)
Posted: Mon February 25, 2008 01:15 PM UTC
Hi everyone!

What do you recommend for a day in Cairo?

By then, I will have seen the pyramides and the cairo museum, so what do you suggest for an extra day?

I heard about the copta neighborhood, about the muslim neighborhood..?

I don't really know much, to be honest. Are there any bazaars, tiny alleys, markets, fruits, colours, echos of the past..?

Where?

Thanks!

Luis

p.s.: Is a group of people walking around gonna be harassed by touts/guides/salesmen...??

Cairo What area?
Posted: Thu February 21, 2008 10:51 AM UTC
Hi

I still haven't decided on a hotel but would like to know what area everyone recommends. We like to be in the main touristy area's with good touristy shops, restaurants, and bars close by. We don't need to be near any site's as they will all be included in the tour. Is there a old town area or something that is nice to stay in? We like to be able to go out at night to a nice restaurant and bar and walk home. During the day we won't mind getting a cab/public transport around the city.

Thanks!

Cairo Qanater or Fayyoum?
Posted: Mon February 18, 2008 07:13 AM UTC
I am divided between visiting Qanater (closer, and I can take a river taxi) or Fayyoum (long drive, but I think, more to see?).

What is there to do in Qanater? Is it possible for me to spend only half a day there (go by boat, come back by taxi or vice versa)? I do not want to visit the camel market in birqash. WIll there be lots of people in Qanater on saturday?

Thankyou for your advice :)

Cairo A few last questions before I go

As I've posted before, I will 1 week in Cairo in March. How worried should I be about the Khamsin wind?
And just to know the up-to-date price: how much does a taxi cost from the airport to Gizeh?

Cheers

Cairo Cairo to Mount Sinai...
Posted: Sat February 16, 2008 11:03 AM UTC
Greetings Folks!

I want to take East Delta Bus Co. on 21st Feb at 11 am to Saint Katherine, where it is expected to reach at 7 pm. After spending the night there, I wish to go up the mountain on 22nd Feb and descend the same day. Again spending the night there, I wish to return to Cairo on 23rd Feb by bus within 5pm. I have a return flight back to Dubai on 23rd Feb at 7.15 pm.

My question is...how do i buy return tickets for East Delta from Dubai? How much would the fare be?

What kind of weather to expect at St. Katherine? Are these buses comfortable and safe?

Any early response will help me place accordingly...

Cheers

Cairo Quick Trip to Cairo Tips
Posted: Fri February 15, 2008 01:26 AM UTC
I'll be in Cairo for work for a week and will have evenings and one full day off. How late is Khan el-Khalili "open"? Is it possible to see the pyramids at Giza, see the Egypt museum, and see the Muslim/mosque section in one day? Is old Cairo near to many mosques? What time does the sunset at the end of February/early March?

Cairo 1 week in Giza
Posted: Mon January 28, 2008 07:04 PM UTC
I'm staying 1 week in Giza (near Cairo) in March. I would like to do some sightseeing in Cairo, visit the pyramids and perhaps include a daytrip to Alexandria. However, I'm a bit lost of what is the best way to do this. Book tours with a travelagency, book tours in the hotel (expensive ?), make a deal with a taxidriver or just use public transport. If you think a travelagency is the best way, can you recommed one?
By the way I'm used to travelling in all continents, but in Egypt I think I will be a bit overwhelmed by the constant baksheesh.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Cairo Which month is better for discounts?
Posted: Fri January 25, 2008 11:38 AM UTC
Hello all

I was planning to travel to Egypt in late March but have just realized that it is the easter period and that one would be charged a premuim on all rates. Just wanted to enquire what might be the kind of difference that one would expect in hotel and tour deals between traveling in March or April or May?

Thanks

Cairo Presidential Nile cruises
Posted: Fri January 25, 2008 03:47 AM UTC
Further planning our Egypt trip - we were wondering if there are any cruises 3d/4n available between Aswan and Luxor between 250-300$ all inclusive. I am told that the Presidential Nile Cruises is a standard 5 star - would anyone know good agents who can get their cruises at that price. Any other recommendations for cruises in that price range?

Cairo Budget and mid-level hotels in Egypt
Posted: Thu January 24, 2008 07:11 AM UTC
Hello there

I am planning a trip to Egypt in March-April and have been looking out for budget hotels in Cairo on
the VT site. I've come across many posts recommending the Garden City House Hotel.

Do you have any advise on which rooms should I request for at the hotel (which side/floor)- I am looking for something with low noise levels, clean bathrooms and well ventilated.

In case I don't manage to get reservations at this hotel, do you have recommendations for similar properties in Cairo?

All your help is much appreciated.

Warm regards
