| Cairo | Unmarried couple (muslim+non-muslim) visiting Egypt Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 07:19 PM UTC
Hi,
Can someone tell if i can travel and stay in one room with my boyfriend who is legally a muslim and come from another muslim country? I know that it's illegal for Egyptians, but i don't know if this law is applied to other muslims tourist. I do respect the culture and the law over there,it's just that it's cheaper to get one room rather than 2.... Thanks so much for any replies.... |

| Cairo | ElderHostel / TraveLearn Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 08:56 PM UTC
We're curious if anybody in this forum has taken a tour of Egypt arranged by either ElderHostel or TraveLearn. We've traveled all over on our own but these two are education oriented which seems very appropriate for Egypt. At 61 with the culture difference we are more interested in superinteresting than exciting.
Let us know if you have taken tours arranged by these orgs and your thoughts. Thinking of October this year. Thanks. |

In their website, they write it is in Heliopolis. I looked at the arrow in the map at their website but it shows it is somewhere else? Any one can help me to show where is it in the map?

| Cairo | visa Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 12:29 AM UTC
Hi fellow travelers.
We are at the end of our holiday in Egypt, traveling to Petra for 5 days leaving Egpyt from Taba to Aqaba by ferry return. I know we need a multiple entry visa for this but would like to know if it is possible to get this visa at the Cairo airport on arrival and if so, the cost. We have been told by some that we have to apply for this multi visa at our local Egypt Consulate at a higher cost. Many Thanks Dave |

| Cairo | Need Cairo Apt. Posted: Wed April 16, 2008 01:00 AM UTC
Hello all!
I will be residing in Cairo in mid-June through July but I'm having some trouble finding an apt. (within a reasonable budget of $1,200 for 6 weeks) and in the area of Nasr City/Heliopolis. There's very few listings as most are for brokers who will only help upon arrival, but I believe it would be most wise to have a home reserved prior. Though I check Craigslist and Expatriates.com daily....Does anyone have any idea where else one can look for apt. rentals - or perhaps know of an available apt. in Nasr City/Heliopolis? Thanks so very much for any advice! |

| Cairo | How much time?? Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 01:29 PM UTC
Hi - we're planning to go to Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan. I'm sure you can spend a lot more time in Cairo than we have so I was wondering if 5 days will be enough? Also, is October or November a better time to go (weather-wise and crowd-wise)? Thanks.

| Cairo | Cairo/Luxor Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 04:42 AM UTC
I will be visiting Cairo and Luxor in NOV 08. Is visiting an oasis from Luxor a possibility, and it is a good way to spend one of my precious days? My friend will be going to a monastery that day, and I am not up to the walking, so I am looking for an alternative. I really enjoy seeing how ordinary people live, in addition to the regular touristy sights. Any info about places we should not miss in these two areas will be greatly appreciated.

| Cairo | Giza or Downtown Cairo Overnight Posted: Tue April 8, 2008 03:32 AM UTC
We are staying overnight off a cruise ship in October. Is it better to stay in a hotel in Giza or downtown Cairo? I know we are planning to see the light and sound show at the pyramids.....have no idea what time it is. We also want to have a nice dinner at a restaurant overlooking the Nile.
Is Giza on the Nile? I have heard it is better staying in downtown Cairo. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks Karen |

Hi
I know this question has been asked many times, and the answer is check that the agents company is registed with the Gov tourist board on its web site. But I have been trying over the last week and have not been able to enter this web site it appears to be off line. I wanted to check the two agents that I have picked for the final choice. They are Mike Travel/egyptlegend.and Arab Travel Agency. Could someone check for me and let me know as I would like to book as soon as possible. Also the Longchamps Hotel seems to be of line also or its my computer, has anybody had the same problems. Thanks David |

| Cairo | Tickets to pyramids Posted: Tue March 11, 2008 10:30 AM UTC
I'm going back to Egypt next week after 7 years. Like them, I and my family are travelling on our own. Last time it was easy to buy tickets to enter the pyramids on the spot. We went early. Don't know if things are still the same. I'm not very keen on joining a tour as we want to take our time and many tours don't even include entering the pyramids. This is a must as it is a promise to my 7 year old son. This trip is for him.
Information anyone? Thanks a lot! |

| Cairo | Organized tour for Mum Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 12:47 PM UTC
Hi all,
I am brand new to the web site and am posting this on behalf of me and my sister. We are trying to organize a surprise 60 th birthday trip for mum to Egypt- it has been her dream destination for years. We are sending her from Melbourne Australia and as she has hardly travelled we were thinking an organized tour would be best. Has any one any experience with any tours they found good - and that would be suited to that age group The ones we were shown by the travel agent were ' insight' and bench international'- any comments on either of these. She would also absolutely love to be involved in or watch an archeological dig of some kind- i dont have a clue where to start looking to see if this is possible to arrange- any one have any ideas, or done something like this before. Hope someone can help Thanks Debbie |

| Cairo | One day in Cairo (except museum and pyramides) Posted: Mon February 25, 2008 01:15 PM UTC
Hi everyone!
What do you recommend for a day in Cairo? By then, I will have seen the pyramides and the cairo museum, so what do you suggest for an extra day? I heard about the copta neighborhood, about the muslim neighborhood..? I don't really know much, to be honest. Are there any bazaars, tiny alleys, markets, fruits, colours, echos of the past..? Where? Thanks! Luis p.s.: Is a group of people walking around gonna be harassed by touts/guides/salesmen...?? |

| Cairo | What area? Posted: Thu February 21, 2008 10:51 AM UTC
Hi
I still haven't decided on a hotel but would like to know what area everyone recommends. We like to be in the main touristy area's with good touristy shops, restaurants, and bars close by. We don't need to be near any site's as they will all be included in the tour. Is there a old town area or something that is nice to stay in? We like to be able to go out at night to a nice restaurant and bar and walk home. During the day we won't mind getting a cab/public transport around the city. Thanks! |

| Cairo | Qanater or Fayyoum? Posted: Mon February 18, 2008 07:13 AM UTC
I am divided between visiting Qanater (closer, and I can take a river taxi) or Fayyoum (long drive, but I think, more to see?).
What is there to do in Qanater? Is it possible for me to spend only half a day there (go by boat, come back by taxi or vice versa)? I do not want to visit the camel market in birqash. WIll there be lots of people in Qanater on saturday? Thankyou for your advice :) |

As I've posted before, I will 1 week in Cairo in March. How worried should I be about the Khamsin wind?
And just to know the up-to-date price: how much does a taxi cost from the airport to Gizeh? Cheers |

Is it possible to visit Giza, Memphis, Saqqara, dahshur, Fayyoum in one day and then return to Cairo before dark?
Or is it more advisable to break them into 2 seperate trips? Perhaps Giza, Memphis & Saqqara one day then a day trip to Fayyoum? Ppreciate any advice given :) |
