Greetings travellers!
We are 2 norwegians women arriving Hurgada in January 08, and we need transfer to Luxor. Our charter company can't assist us. And we dont want to start chasing taxidrivers in the airport. I have travelled by the convoi before when I came with a group, and would like the same kind of bus this time. I have also travelled by local bus, and that was a bit of a hazzle to get to the bus station, to find the right bus, and to fight for a place on the overcrowded bus. My companion on this trip has poor health, and so we need a smooth transfer.
Any advice?

Two friends and I are off to Luxor in January. We have quite a few questions!

1. Which is the best currency to take?
2. Can a Solo/Cirrus debit card be used in the ATM's in Egypt?
3. We desperately want to go on a hot air balloon ride. Is it best to book in the UK or in Egypt?
4. Also, we heard it was possible to book a quad-biking excursion but haven't seen anything on the net about this. Does anyone have any idea?
5. We plan to fly to Cairo, is it best to book just the flights or to book a whole tour?
6. We're quite big drinkers and smokers. Being an Islamic country, how much would one expect to pay for say a pint of lager? And how much and how good are the cigarettes?

im visiting eygpt next year doing a cruise and staying at luxor the nile palace for a week half board i have read some of the comments sounds really interesting my question is about getting visas how and were do i get them

Which tombs do you consider to be the best to visit in the Valley of the Kings and why? We'll be there in February with a private guide and haven't looked into which ones we'd like to visit.

We'll be in Cairo by end of October. Was wondering if a side trip to Luxor will be worth the extra few days and expense? It has been my intention just to see the Giza pyramids and then I can declare I've seen Egypt.

I am travelling to Luxor next week and want to know if its possible to buy egyptian cotton bedding there, i just love this good quality product and would dearly like to aquire some on my trip or am i in the wrong area all together.

Im heading over to luxor now in august..i was just wondering where is the spots to go ever night..is there like a city center with pubs nd night clubs..i cant find anything on the internet!!

The tour we are looking at taking includes a 5 night cruise on the ship named the Monaco. It looks nice on line but I would like to hear from those who are familiar with it or even better if you stayed on it.

Could you please tell me what we should expect to pay for a hot air balloon flight in Luxor? Can you recommend a good company to book through? Is it best to book there in the town upon arrival or in advance? How long is the balloon flight for the price you quote? I have heard some people say they got it for as low as 30 British Pounds for a 30 minute flight. We would like about an hour to make it worth it, but want to pay as little as possible without being in a really crowded basket (i.e. we prefer less than 12 passengers). We are planning a trip to Egypt for either November 07or January 08.
We are hoping for a few days in Cairo with a guide and a few days in Luxor with a guide. We also plan to take a short cruise to some of the other archaeological and historic sites along the Nile. I have looked on-line for cruises and just can't seam to find a cruise without it being associated with a tour group. Can anyone recommend and provide a contact for booking directly with a Nile cruise boat. I would like to find a boat that is 50 to 60 cabins in size, has good guides, is clean and has good safe food and water. I would greatly appreciate hearing your experience with such a boat.

I've been reading up on the Luxor Tips site www.luxortraveltips.com as suggested and read about the Movenpick food - is the ice cream safe to eat? has anyone stayed there are suffered from it or any of the other food, especially salads/fruit etc?
It was a good job I read about the medicines too, I had noted to buy Antinal and have just read that it's an antibiotic - I am allergic to antibiotics so I think I'll be taking my own anti-diarrhoea tabs from England with me.

Any good websites which let you print off maps showing tourist attractions/restaurants etc for Luxor and Cairo? I've found the usual that come up on a search..didn't know if anyone knows a particularly good one or shall I just buy a book? :o)

Yup I’m doing my homework right now. Nice to see you back online. I’m checking the prices for myself plus the kids this year, with only a slightly bigger budget than last year. So my first questions of the year are. How much is the train fare to Abydos? Two adults and two kids. It’s got to be cheaper than the convoy. I see from Google Earth that the station at El-Balyana is a bit further than Luxor to the Airport but in a straighter line. Sooooo… does this mean the taxi fare should be similar? Also the train timetable. Last year when I was at Abydos I was told that there is only one train each day and that the train back to Luxor is about six at night but can’t remember the time of the outward journey. Is there more than one train each way per day? Oh and how long does it take on the train? If we ended up with time to kill would we be allowed to spend some time in El-Balyana having a meal or whatever? No doubt I'll have some more ?? nearer the time, but for now TTFN.

We are going to Luxor on the 24th and sailing on the Etoile Du Nil to Aswan. Does any one know this boat and can any one advise me on the varius trips on the way. Should we go with the organised tours or go it alone? How much does it cost to go to Abu Simbal from Asan? Any Tips wuld be greatly apreciated.

We've been told by the travel agent to get our visas on arrival at Luxor airport. What documentation do you need? is it just your passports and tickets?

we are going to Luxor for the first time in August, staying at the Movenpick. I'm not sure about transfer from the airport to the hotel (I've booked via internet) also, I know there's free transport from the hotel to the town, is it easy to get around to visit the sights? what about getting to see the pyramids? I'm a bit worried about drinking water/ice in drinks, food poisoning etc too (I've booked b&b at the hotel but that's all) I've never gone out of Europe before so any help/suggestions on any of this gratefully received. thanks

Can anyone advise me regarding taxi's in Luxor. I have to make my way from the airport to my hotel, are the taxi's metered? Is there a counter in the airport which can arrange taxi's for me and set the price? Has anyone had problems with registered taxi's and can they offer any advice? I have assumed there is no bus service into town from the airport and would welcome any advice to the contrary. I have been given a rough guide of 50 egyptian pounds, does this sound right? Is there an expectation that I will have to barter for costs and can the price agreed be relied upon? Any help gratefully recieved.

Could anyone recommend a decent budget hotel in Luxor. I plan on a short trip so wont have much time to see all the places, so need advice on the best spots to hit and the best night clubs Luxor has on offer.

I am heading to Hurghada from Luxor to catch the ferry to Sharm. Does anyone know the cost for a taxi or is there evening/night bus service? The ferry leaves at 8:30am. I found a timetable that says a bus leaves at noon for Luxor but I was wondering if there is a later one. Thanks

i will be in luxor for four days in june and wondered if i can fly to cairo early one morning and return to luxor same day late in the evening and if so how much it will cost me i know it wont be cheap and if i can make this trip can i book it through a travel agent in luxor
