Luxor in October Posted: Tue September 9, 2008 04:00 PM UTC
I will be in Egypt in October and would like to visit Luxor. But i have some doubts whether do this tour, because I am afraid of too hot weather there on that time. So I would like to ask you, how is the weather in Luxor in the middle of October, and whether is the full day tour of Luxor doable.
i would like also know, whether I can hire a guide with car, which would take me to all places in Luxor, what should save my time and energy (i cannot imagine walking from place to place under the strong sun). Thank you for every advice.

Where should I start & end (Cairo, Luxor, Jerusalem, Petra)? Posted: Sat August 30, 2008 12:39 AM UTC
Where should I start & end (Cairo, Luxor, Jerusalem, Petra)?
I am planning a trip for the end of the year. I have a free flight that I have to take before the end of the year with American Airlines and I want to visit the following sites:
- Cairo (Giza and the Pyramids)
- Luxor
- Petra
- Jerusalem
I am not sure what city I should fly into to begin my trip. American can get me to either Tel Aviv or Cairo. From there I have had many suggestions:
- Take a train (at night) from Cairo to Luxor and then fly to Tel Aviv. After seeing Jerusalem, take a tour bus into Jordan (after switching buses) and spend a couple days in Petra then take a bus to Amman or back to Tel Aviv and fly back to Cairo for my return home.
Has anyone taken a train from Cairo to Luxor? If so, how was it?
Is there a train to Jerusalem from Cairo?
Has anyone taken one of the many tours from Jerusalem to Petra? How was it?
Any suggestions you could provide would be great!!
I have tried a couple travek agencies but they all include airfare and I already have the free flight that I have to use.
Thank you!

Sonesta St. George Nile Cruise Posted: Sun August 10, 2008 04:20 PM UTC
Has anyone travelled on the Sonesta St. George I Nile Cruise Ship as detailed here
http://www.sonesta.com/Nilecruises/index.cfm?fa=StGeorge.home
Next week I fly to Luxor for a week on board this ship and a week at the Sonesta St George Hotel and I wondered if anyone has any experiences of the cruise ship, good or bad?
Thanks,
Iain

Sonesta St. George Posted: Fri August 1, 2008 12:36 AM UTC
Hi!
I'm heading to LUXOR in just over two weeks with my girlfriend. I haven't been in Egypt since 1990 and no doubt lots of things have changed. We are staying at the Sonesta St. George Hotel which I have heard is fantastic. When it comes to eating and drinking, what are the rules? I've heard that no ice in drinks, no salads that have been prepared for us, cut fruit or ice cream, is this really all true?
Also, I suffer badly with sun burn, so, I have PLENTY of factor 30spf cream but, besides a baseball cap, was contemplating buying a Shemagh before heading out there to keep the sun off the head and shoulders in the mid day sun if I can't get out of it. Do I need to have any thoughts about colour or pattern as I don't want to offend anyone or be considered to be part of any "group". Clearly I wont be buying a khaki or "sand brown" colour or any other from an ex military shop, but, clarification would be good.
Thanks,
Iain

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Nile Cruise - Luxor to Aswan Posted: Thu June 5, 2008 08:52 PM UTC
There have been many questions on this before as people were wondering which boat to choose etc. My husband and I are going to Egypt for 10 days in Dec and we don't have a big budget. Over $100 a night per person is a bit much for us and I was hoping to get something cheaper. Does anyone know of any cruises (3 nights)that are not luxury but decent still??
thanks soo much!

Suggestions for Luxor trip?? Posted: Mon April 21, 2008 02:07 PM UTC
Hi,
I am visiting Luxor in October for 2 weeks - would value input on what see aside from the more obvious Valley Of Kings, Temple of Luxor & Karnak. Also would like to visit Cairo - what is the best way to go about this and how much time would be necessary to spend there?
Any info appreciated!
Thanks, janey

Is 1 & 1/2 days as part of a Nile Cruise sufficient to see Luxor? Posted: Fri March 21, 2008 07:01 AM UTC
Hi
I'm planning a 12 night trip to Egypt in Nov. Cairo 4 nights, Nile Cruise Aswan - Luxor 4 nights, Sharm 3 nights + ONE OTHER TO BE DECIDED?
My question is whether I should add another night to Cairo (total 5) or spend one night instead in Luxor (Sontesa St George Hotel) before the nile cruise.
My tour company says the 1 & 1/2 days in Luxor as part of the cruise will be sufficient to see what I need, whereas the Lonely Planet says many find they need to spend an extra day or two in Luxor.
I'd appreciate your opinion on whether an extra night in Cairo or Luxor would be best?
Many thanks :-)

West Bank Hotel Posted: Tue March 18, 2008 06:04 PM UTC
Have recently returned from a Nile Cruise. Our intention is to re-visit Luxor sometime and stay on the West Bank. Can anyone suggest some reasonable places to stay?
Need to return as we were really rushed along when we took the 'tour package' on offer on the Nile boat.

buying essential oils in Luxor Posted: Thu February 28, 2008 08:50 PM UTC
I'm planning to go to Luxor in May and I have two questions:
1. Egypt produces a lot of essential plant oils, but I never saw them in shops in Cairo or other cities. Is it possible to get essential oils (frankincense, myrrh e.o.) in some shop(s) in Luxor?
2. Does somebody know a reputable perfume shop(s) in Luxor with good quality perfume essences/oils (shops not with usual copies of designer fragrances)? What are approx. prices?
Thank you very much and good luck to everyone!

Question about hotel check-in time Posted: Sun January 20, 2008 11:51 PM UTC
We are arriving Luxor by sleeping train on the early morning of May 19th and leaving for Cairo via sleeping train on the evening of May 21st. We are travelling independently in a group of four and we are thinking of booking two rooms at Sonesta St. George in advance.
As far as I know, the check-in time for most of the hotels is around 11am-1pm so where should we leave our luggages before going off to explore the sites that morning? Do you think that we should book the room for the night before so that the room is already reserved by the time we get there around six in the morning the next day?
Same problem occurs on the day we're departing Luxor. The check-out time is around 3 PM and the sleeping train to Cairo leaves Luxor around 11 o'clock at night. So, should we book the room for another night? We are only going to be in Luxor for three days but it seems like we're gonna have to book the rooms for five nights.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. Anyone who has done this before, please help me. Any word or advice is immensely appreciated.

Tour in Luxor Posted: Thu December 20, 2007 08:34 AM UTC
Hi, we will be travelling to Luxor from Cairo in January and are staying only a few days. I wonder if anyone might give us tips on which sights which should'nt be missed, how much do the entrance fees cost, opening hours, and the best way to travel to these places? Is it better to engage a travel agency who can arrange these trips? I got an offer of 195US$ per person for 2 days which I thought is expensive. Appreciate any advice.
