Weimar UNESCO sites?
Posted: Sat April 5, 2008 02:08 AM UTC
Is the Herder House listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites the same thing as the Kirms-Krackow-Haus? Anybody know? And is the Old High School they mention different from the Civil School? I'm confused.

Land Thüringen rostbratwurst
Posted: Sun July 29, 2007 12:50 AM UTC
When I was in Jena with my friends I saw Thuringer sausage (rostbratwurst) everwhere and ate it with my hosts, from their backyard grill. Why is the color of the uncooked sausage such a whitish color, not redish like most sausage?

Jena To and from Jena
Posted: Wed May 17, 2006 04:23 AM UTC
My friend and I are visiting another friend who has been studying abroad in Jena. Any suggestions on the best (and most cost effective way) to get from Frankfurt --> Jena --> Berlin? My friend who is in Jena now says a train ticket to Berlin is around 100 euros. :/

We'll be doing this in a little less than a month, during World Cup time(!), so I expect things might get a little extra busy.

Also, I'd love any hostel recommendations for all 3 locations!

Erfurt Cost of living in Erfurt
Posted: Tue April 18, 2006 03:40 PM UTC
Hello,

I have a job offer to Erfurt. And I would like to have references about this city from people who has already been there and specially for someone who has lived there.
I would like to know about the level of life.
With a 1200 euros salary can you live a "comfortable" life.
And also about the type of city that it is. From the pictures it seems quite an historical city. I've also seen that is an student city, so I guess it may be a litte bit "multcultural".
How is the people there? Are they friendly to foreign people or are they too racist?
Well I just would like to have some information about the city as with this job offer I must stay there for at least a year and a half.

Thanks

Weimar some questions on Weimar and Germany in general
Posted: Mon August 1, 2005 02:22 AM UTC
HI! i will be in weinmar taking an intensive german course in august. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with some things:

How do germans usually dress? is it more casual or elegant, and what would a university student wear? In Italy, most university students do not wear shorts, even if the weather is over 30+ degrees (although this year i saw exceptions) and are generally conservative. I've been told that Germans are generally more casual, but maybe in an academic setting its different?

Are prepaid SIM cards for phones as easy to get and Inexpensive in Germany as they are in Italy (ie 5 euro for a sim card with 5 euro of traffic)? Do i need anything other than an ID?

Are coin laundry services common in Germany? I have not recieved a response from the university about what is(n't) available in the student dormitories, so i was wondering if hours of hand washing my clothes is in my future...

Lastly, does anyone know if there is a Deutsch Bank in Weinmar (and where is it)?

Thanks for the help... possibly more questions to come!
