Alaska First AK (Anchorage trip)--seeking advice
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 06:34 PM UTC
We are flying into Anchorage and will be in Alaska for 4 nights (June 12-June 16). My original plan was to stay in Anchorage for the first night, then drive north to Denali and stay up there for 2 nights and then spend the final night in Anchorage again.

I'm wondering if a better option would be to stay in Anchorage for all 4 nights and take day trips from there. I'd like to see Denali, but from the limited research I've done, it looks like you can see it (on a good, clear day) with just a short car ride (like 2 hours) and not have to go into Denali National Park.

What would you guys recommend? We've never been before and I'm sure there are lots of other things to see than just Denali.

We would like to see the scenery, take road trips, and maybe do some hiking.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Alaska Car Rental
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 06:33 PM UTC
Any suggestions on renting a car or SUV for 2 weeks this July? I'd like to get a SUV /large car / minivan for 4 people for our 2 week stay. Part of the 2 weeks will be spent visiting relatives in Soldotna. Searching the typical car rental agencies, I find their prices to be quite high, although this may be normal for Alaska in the summer! Any suggestions on where I can find the best deal would be greatly appreciated. Is it better to avoid picking up and dropping off at the airport? Should we take a taxi to another location away from the airport to pick up a car? Thanks to all who respond!

New York City LaGuardia to Madison and 45th
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 05:29 PM UTC
Hi there,
We will be staying at the Roosevelt Hotel at Madison and 45th, and flying into LaGuardia. I've seen some posts on here about transportation into the city, and it looks like getting a driver service is as cost effective as a cab or the shuttle (if you take out the bus and subway options)?

If that's the case, any ideas on specific car services that would be good to call? I'm trying to get an idea of what a cab ride or driver plus tolls plus tip will cost me from LaGuardia to the hotel location.

Appreciate the help, and sorry if I'm just repeating an old question!

Chicago Chicago Transit Card
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 12:49 PM UTC
Hi everyone!
1. Is this the card that I buy to use the bus/subway/train in Chicago?
2. Is there more than one type of card or this is it? Not sure if there is only the one kind of transit. For Toronto, it's the TTC for example.
3. I read on the website that the $5 fee is waived if I register the card. Well, I won't have access to a computer while in Chicago?

TIA!

United States of America New England road trip
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 12:21 PM UTC
Hi
We are going to New England for about 12 days at the end of October/beginning of November.
I'm hoping someone will be kind enough to suggest an itinerary that will give us a good sense of New England. There seem to be so many potential little towns to visit but a lot of them seem to offer pretty much the same thing.
Any suggestions are welcome; we'd like to begin and end in Boston.
We enjoy good food and wine - so any vineyards (especially ones with accommodation) would be welcome. We also like walking, people watching, discovering unusual/un-touristy places but are equally happy checking out what all the fuss is about at tourist sights.
I know a lot of these things are down to individual preference so if it makes it easier, please say what you would do with 12 days in New England and it'll give me a starting point!
Thank you!

Also, I would like to book a masssage or spa treatment, can someone recommend a good place? Is Magnolia Hotel a good spot? We are staying at that hotel.

Thanks a lot!

Los Angeles San Diego
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 04:22 AM UTC
We are flying to Los Angeles, CA and then need to get to San Diego for a cruise and then return to L.A. for a flight home after the cruise. Is there a bus or some form of transportation you can take from the airport in L.A. to a hotel in San Diego? Are there hotels in San Diego that would offer transportation to a Holland America cruise ship?

Yellowstone National Park Best travel plans through Yellowstone for a first timer? HELP!
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 03:13 AM UTC
Hi Everybody,
I LOVE how helpful everyone is to eachother on this site so I was hoping this would be helpful to me as well.

There will be 3 of us adults and 3 kids (ages 15, 6 & 5) traveling to Yellowstone/Tetons this summer in mid July. Can anybody suggest the best route from Denver Colorado going through the park? Are there any MUST SEE stops to make?

We will be leaving 1st thing on a Friday morning and returning on a Monday evening. That's all the time we'll have to explore this time around.

Does anybody have any inexpensive camping/lodging suggestions while we're there? We are all on a budget seeing as how we have kids but we want them to experience the wild without us having to sleep outdoors. We plan on taking coolers with 3 days worth of food and a tiny little BBQ to cook on. Good idea?

I would be open and welcome to any help in planning a 4 day, 3 night trip seeing as how I have never been to Yellowstone and feel completely lost here.

Would you mind terribly emailing me directly at: AngieWaltr@aol.com
Thank you very much,
Angie

Las Vegas Total Rewards
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 03:01 AM UTC
Staying at Paris over the weekend on a decent room offer that included all of the Harrah's properties. It's been mentioned here that these room deals are the best part of the Harrah's comp program, whereas MGM Mirage properties are more likely to comp your room upon checkout. Is this the case, and if so, should I use up whatever comps I get over the course of weekend to pay for meals at Paris, rather than saving them hoping to the one night I'm paying for knocked off?

United States of America Self drive from Las Vegas to San Francisco
Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 01:18 AM UTC
Good day!

I will be accompanying my hubby to attend a conference in Las Vegas and we will be extending for another week.

We plan to visit our friends in San Francisco after Grand Canyon and then back to LA for our return flight home. Along the way, we can drive thru Death Valley and stop by Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park, Monterey etc.

Would like to find out the following :-
1) is it too rush to visit so many places in a week?
2) how much do we have to pay for gas/petrol for such long distance drive?
3) is it more costly than taking domestic flights?

Thanks in advance!

Do the strollers recline?
Is it best to rent 2 singles or 1 double?
Is there storage places?
What are the wagons like?

If you have any pictures of the strollers that be great to!

Mexico Copper Canyon
Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 11:57 PM UTC
My wife and I would like to take a tour of El Canyon Cubre in Mexico. There are so many tours and tour companies listed online that I hardly know where to start. We would like to take the railway tour -- 7 to 10 days. Is a round trip of the canyon advisable? What time of year is the best time to book this tour? Are there any "add ons" or side trips that you would recommend? And, most importantly, what tour company would you recommend? Thanks.

Washington D.C. Parking Downtown DC
Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 10:25 PM UTC
Our family will be in DC for 2 nights over July 4th and will be staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on NW 14th st. We plan to walk and use the metro/bus lines to get around, but need to park our car during the stay. I hate to pay the $30 a day hotel fee. Any parking garages in that area or other options?

Los Angeles 1st trip to Disneyland with an adult who has special needs
Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 09:27 PM UTC
Where is a good hotel that provides suite accomodations suitable for 3 adults? We would like to be near Disney, have a pool on the property, be near restaurants, and it would be a bonus if breakfast was included in the price of accomodations.
We'd like to stay somewhere nice...but not too expensive. We're planning on going in November.
Thanks in advance for any advice that anyone can give!

I see that photography is prohibited on the regular tour, but OK on the in-depth tour.

It is possible to photograph the exterior without restriction, or must one have permission?
