Las Vegas Amazing Shows ? - Amazing Deals !
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 08:11 PM UTC
Hello,

I've seen Jersey Boys (amazing!), Blue Man Group, Phantom of the Opera, and KA. Are there any other highly suggested shows I check out during my next upcoming trip? A few friends and I are taking our friend for her birthday and we wanted to surprise her with a great show that we haven't seen yet.

Also, as a thank you for helping us out, here are some of the deals I booked recently at MGM to better help save you some money :) (Book online!)

MGM021:
Rates Starting @ $49. Inclusions: $35 Activity Credit, 15% off Spa Services, 2 VIP Passes to Studio 54 or Tabu

MGM028:
Rates Starting @ $49. Inclusions: $15 Slot Play, 25% off Spa Services, 2 Comp Passes to Studio 54 or Tabu

MGM282:
Rates Starting @ $49. Inclusions: 2 Daily Buffet, 2 Nightly passes to Studio 54 and Tabu, 2 Daily Passes to Wet Republic, and 2 Daily Access to the Gym.

Personally, my favorite is MGM282 as I've been looking to work out before going out in the evening, but never wanted to pay the access fee at any hotel. The buffet is good, and I love the Alaskan King Crab legs they serve at dinner time. Wet Republic is an awesome day-life pool party with sick beats and friendly staff.

Happy Independence Day to y'all and I look forward to hearing your suggestions!

Dallas Visiting Dallas area in September
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 07:20 PM UTC
Hi

I'll be in the Fort Worth/Lewisville in early Sept for a few days for work, but have a couple of free days. I arrive on a Saturday afternoon and have Sunday free, and I think I have another free day on Friday.

I've been watching Pro Bull Riding on TV for a while and would like to go to a rodeo. I checked the Mesquite Rodeo website but the schedule only goes to the end of August. Will there still be something going on when I am in town? And is this the best place to go? How would I get there from Lewisville if I am not driving?

What else would you recommend? Some smart alec at the office suggested Southfork ranch...

Glacier National Park Glacier Park or Yellowstone?
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 07:18 PM UTC
Hi, despite all my research in books/sites I'm having hard time deciding on which to go.

Details:
- will go for 7 days around late Aug. or early Sept.
- just wife and I, in our 30's, intermediate hikers/backpackers.
- would like to do at least one 3 day back country trip, and the others would be full-day dawn to dusk type hikes. preferably in a loop as we wont have a 2nd car to shuttle us.
- into awe-inspiring mountains, rivers/lakes, lush greenery and trees, and prefer narrow winding trails versus big flat ones in a valley.
- wildlife is a plus, but not the main goal.

Thanks for any help! I'm at goldemi on yhoo

North America Phones!
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 05:25 PM UTC
Hi!

Myself and 11 members of family and friends are coming to Orlando for 3-4 weeks in December. To avoid the cost of using our UK mobile numbers we were wondering if anyone can recommend a cheap phone that we can buy (obviously several of them!) including sim card. so that we can contact each other when out and about. We have the walkie talkies for the parks but I mean for when we are all doing different things. Does anyone know if we can purchase a sim card that will work in our UK mobiles?

New York City Drinking Water Problem
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 04:01 PM UTC
I am interested to know, as a traveller, if the tap water from general hotels or hostels in New York City and Boston is drinkable safely, which means one can drink it directly without boiling it.
Any suggestion if the hotel/hostel does not have tea/coffee maker to boil the water. Is it safe to drink the tap water?

Florida Keys Key West to Key Largo - no driving
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 02:49 PM UTC
Anyone have any suggestions for getting from Key West to Key Largo? I know Miami Beach 411 can offer me a link on their tour bus but it only runs once a day at 4:30pm and I would prefer to depart earlier - that would cost US$60 - wondering if there's other options, possibly cheaper?

Mexico Dolphins in Cancun
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 01:42 PM UTC
Can't decide between Dolphin Discover $199 for dolphins, manatees and sea lions, or $125 at the Aquarium for just dolphins. The fact you can take your own camera to aquarium appeals.

Anyone been to either?

I'm only in Cancun for 2 days in July. ONe day to see the beach and dolphins, the other to do Chitchen Itza. Quite like to see the Blue Cenote too. Is it possible to get there form Chitzen. You seem to get a long time at Chitzhen so I'd like to nip to the Cenote and back.

United States of America Accomodations during football season
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 01:40 PM UTC
Hi my VT friends.
Once again I need your help on my upcoming road trip. I am 1 of about 9 Americans who don’t follow college football. I will be driving through the Football region in September & October. For greater flexibility, my plans specifically exclude making hotel/motel reservations in advance. I’m not interested in the Big Game between the local Hatfields & McCoys but I need info on room availability during football season. How many days in advance do the fans book? Do they stay in town after the game to replay the highlights in a local pub and relive their own glory days? If the game is a Sat. which days might be easier for me to book? Am I overestimating a potential problem, or is it no problem at all?
Thanks again, Irv

Washington D.C. Greenbelt overnight Parking
Posted: Sat July 4, 2009 12:43 AM UTC
I will be coming into town between 4-6pm on Sunday July 19th, and staying till about 8pm Monday night. I was told that Greenbelt and two other stations allow over night parking, and the Green Belt is closest to the direction I am coming into town.

I was also informed it only had about 17 spaces for overnight.

My question is; how quick/often do these small spaces open up, and would Sunday night around those times be a better time for me to check, or another time?

I'm trying to save on parking, as much as I can.

Also, from the direction of Greenbelt, where the Green Line begins, are there CVSs that sell the rail cards, so I am not spending $10 for a $5 card?

Thanks.

Niagara Falls niagara falls via amtrak
Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 02:35 PM UTC
Hello
I will be coming to Ontario through Niagara Falls by train later this month. My Amtrak ticket is for New York City to Niagara Falls and then I have a ViaRail reservation for Niagara Falls to Grimsby ON. I am wondering if I have to get off the train (I think it is the same train/different crew)to get my ticket and reboard to carry on to Grimsby. I have asked this question of both ViaRail and Amtrak but have not be able talk to anyone with the answers. If anyone has any knowledge of this, I would really appreciate your help.
Thanks so much.

Querétaro SLP to Querétaro

Have been in SLP for the past few weeks, now driving down to Querétaro. Would love to hear some tips of what to see and do while I'm there and/or anything thing between the two cities.

There is almost nothing posted on Virtual Tourist, and not much to be found on the search engines.

Would also like to know about the traffic. When is rush hour and how bad is it?
Thanks!

Missouri Missouri luxury resort
Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 05:49 AM UTC
I wanted to take my Wife to the Greenbrier in West Virginia, but she has gotten very ill, and on the list for a transplant. She simply can't handle the travel, nor can we afford to be that far from the transplant center in Columbia MO.

I want to find a luxury resort in Arkansas or Missouri, with a very nice spa for her to relax in.

I want this to be the event of her life. Something she can hang onto through what lays ahead for her. Something she will never forget. I want her waited on hand and foot, with nothing to go wanting.

I realize it won't be cheap, but she has gone from a vibrant 42 year old, to a 46 year old that feels like her body is 100 years old. She worked with abused and neglected kids as a family services investigator, now she needs something for her.

Where would be a good place? What would be utter perfection? She needs a break so badly.

Seattle Edmonds or Seattle Main Terminal?
Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 01:16 AM UTC
We're going to be in Seattle for 3+ days and then hike the peninsula for 5 days the 2nd week of Sept. Will be staying just a few blocks north of Pike Place and leaving for the peninsula on a Monday morning (Sept 14). Would like to maximize our time that day exploring Port Townsend and surrounds, and are staying in Port Angeles that night so we're close to Hurricane Ridge the next morning. Do you think we should ferry out via the Seattle main terminal or Edmonds? As we're going west, is there a huge difference in wait/travel time? I'm leaning towards Edmonds as if seems to be a little less hectic...

I'd also welcome any great recommendations from you Seattle-ites on things we shouldn't miss! Besides Hurricane, will do Hoh, Lake Crescent, and as many coastal beaches as we can fit in during low tides - will be in P.A two nights, Forks for two nights, and Ocean Shores one night before driving back to SeaTac. In Seattle, will do some of the larger parks, sculpture garden, art museum, Pike's and some puttering along the waterfront. Can't wait!

Thanks for your help!!!

Moab Planning a backpacking trip to Southern Utah
Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 07:20 PM UTC
OK, my boyfriend and I are starting to plan a trip: Utah at the end of August. We're planning to be there about a week.

Here's the plan so far: Fly in to Grand Junction and rent a car, drive to Moab, camp/hike in Canyonlands and Arches, other than that... who knows? Rugged wilderness abounds! Maybe Glen Canyon? Could we make it over to the western part of the state to see Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon and Zion and?

Other things we're interested in: Ancient Native American ruins & pictographs, hot springs, caves. We love anyplace that's good for a photo op, a quick swim, spectacular scenery, or a rewarding hike.

Any suggestions on itinerary or can't miss features?

Hello,

I have never been to Niagra falls and was wondering if it is possible to walk across the boarder?
How expensive is it to cross with a taxi?
Is there a bus service that crosses boarder?
If there are more than two ports of entry, which one would you recomend?

Thank you...

Orlando Tips/tricks for visiting Disney?
Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 04:20 PM UTC
So I'm planning a trip to Disney for the winter and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good books for choosing restaurants, hotels, etc? There are so many books out there about Disney that I'm starting to feel overwhelmed...I recently bought a great book about the secrets of Disney called “The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World” by Susan Veness. It’s got a lot of secret facts about Disney and it walks you through all the attractions so it doubles as a guide to the park. I know it'll come in really handy while we're there. But I'm still looking for more info about where to stay/eat/shop/etc. Any suggestions??

New York City Transportation for early morning flight from JFK
Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 04:03 PM UTC
I'm going to be in NYC mid-August with my wife and teenage son. We have an 8.30am flight back home so need to get to JFK by 6.00am-ish on a Tuesday morning.

We've pre-booked a multi-drop minibus to our hotel for when we arrive, but I believe that service doesn't run before 6am for our return flight.

What is the best/easiest/cheapest option at that time to get to JFK from a Times Square/Midtown hotel?
Also, is the fixed cab fare coming FROM the airport the same as if you are going the other way? and how much is it? Would I hit any traffic that early?

Thanks in advance. More questions to follow ;-)

Canada Greyhound buses in Canada
Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 02:45 PM UTC
I would like to go on a trip to the Prairies by Greyhound bus (I'm from Quebec); as a HI member the 14-day Discovery Pass would cost just $213. The thing is that for such a long trip (about 55 hours), it's an absolute necessity to have my bag on the bus (food, spare clothes/underwear, toothbrush, etc...)

Last December, Greyhound had announced that it had banned all carry-on baggage from its buses without exception. But this seems to be a hoax; the company website says carry on bags are allowed. I don't want to find myself stuck in a bus without any of the essential stuff so I need to know who is right!

Has anyone here been on a Greyhound bus in Ontario or the Prairies recently? Were you allowed to have a carry-on bag?

Thanks.

I am planning a trip in early October to visit Boldt Castle on Heart Island in upper NY state. If we approach from the Canada side (we are doing a day-trip from either Ottawa or Montreal), which water taxi or tour boat service can I research for prices to get us over to the castle? Something cheap and flexible for times is best for us. Thanks!

Victoria Getting From Vancouver to Butchart Gardens
Posted: Wed July 1, 2009 09:51 PM UTC
What is the most expeditous way to get from downtown Vancouver to Butchart Gardens (other than flying). It seems there is no way to avoid a 3.5 hr trip each way. If doing a day excursion, this leaves little time to actually see the gardens. any suggestions? Would you recommend a stay over in Victoria (we have a few days before heading north to Alaska).
Right now the best way seems to be the Vancouver Bus Terminal/PacificCoach -BC Ferry Term-Swartz Bay-local bus to Butchart.
Is there a better way???
