Santa Cruz and weather?? Posted: Wed July 16, 2008 10:53 AM UTC
Hi, me and my fiance are planning a weeks trip to Madeira, the only compromise we can live with are the lack of beaches. However we are looking for a relaxing break and have seen a Hotel in Santa Cruz, near Funchal. Has anyone stayed in this resort. We are in our 20's but not into loud bars and nightlife. Are there any better suited resorts.
When is the best time to visit for the weather and less crowds. We can either go in the middle of August or towards the end of September

Tours off a Cruise Ship.... Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 08:45 PM UTC
We're in Funchal one day in November....on a Saturday.
I know we could walk around on our own, take the cable, visit Monte, do the toboggan down, visit the market and a wine lodge, have lunch and spend a leisurely
day. Another option is to hire a private taxi for 3-4 hours and still do a few of the above.
A third choice is to go touring for the entire day with Strawberry World Tours.
They offer East OR West:
BEST OF THE WEST - Full Day Tour € 29 per person
This tour departs from the Monumental Lido 09.00 hrs - Camara de Lobos - Cabo Girão - Ribeira Brava - Encumeada - São Vicente - Seixal - Porto Moniz - Paúl da Serra - Bica da Cana - Return to Monumental Lido
BEST OF THE EAST - Full Day Tour € 29 per person
This tour departs from the Monumental Lido 09.00 hrs - Camacha - Poiso - Pico do Arieiro -Ribeiro Frio - Santana - Faial - Porto da Cruz - Portela - Ponta São Lourenço - Santa Cruz Return to Monumental Lido
ANY THOUGHTS ON HOW TO BEST SPEND THE DAY?????
Thanks,
Karen

One Day in Funchal???? Posted: Tue February 26, 2008 12:03 PM UTC
We will be in Funchal for only one full day on November 5th as a cruise port.
We wanted to explore the main town, markets, etc. on our own for a few hours.
There is a company that offers a half day tour as follows:
Nun’s Valley – 2 persons at 19 each (lunch not included)
Funchal – Eira do Serrado – Curral das Freiras – Pico dos Barcelos – Funchal
Does that seem worthwhile to do for a few hours in the morning and then explore on our own for the afternoon? Any advice would really be appreciated.
Thanks,
Marty

Sao Vicente weather and Car Hire/ parking Posted: Mon January 14, 2008 09:12 PM UTC
I have been doing some research regarding a holiday in May this year and have seen a lovely place to stay near Sao Vicente. My question is - is it cooler in this area on the North coast than in the Funchal and South Coast region, and if so by how much at this time of year.
Also, with regard to hiring a car we are thinking of doing this as we are planning on taking my parents (who are in their early 70's) who have slight mobility problems (one more than the other). When driving through the villages and in Funchal what is the parking like - are there car parks or spaces along the promenade etc?
Thanks,
Sue

Flowers in Feb March v Flowers in May Posted: Wed January 2, 2008 06:37 PM UTC
We have the chance of a good deal to Funchal in late Feb. However, though we understand the weather should be ok give or take the odd shower, we are concerned that we will miss out on flowers in bloom. Would it be worth us waiting and paying more for a May booking?

Hi!
We're a couple planning a trip to Madeira this February, abt 7 days. We are now looking for a flat to rent not far from the seaside.
The part of Madeira doesn't matter as long as there is a nice beach around!

Car hire near Cruise terminal/port Posted: Sat December 8, 2007 11:06 AM UTC
Hi,
I'm arriving in Funchal on a cruise later this month and we have a whole day on the island. Are there any car hire companies at the cruise terminal/port? Or are they all in downtown Funchal? Who are reliable companies to choose? Thanks.

Games consoles - where to buy Posted: Fri November 23, 2007 08:17 AM UTC
I'm visiting Funchal in December and am hoping to be able to buy a Nintendo Wii as they are sold out everywhere in the UK (available elsewhere in the EU but not here).
Has anyone got an idea where I can get one (how much?)and whether there are stock issues in Madeira as well.
If anyone knows stores that have websites that would be very helpful as well (just in case I need to preorder)
Thanks again

Getting to Cabo Girão? Posted: Fri November 9, 2007 06:54 PM UTC
We're going to be in Funchal for a day at the end of the month, and I'm trying to find a way to make the most of our 8 hours. In addition to some sights around Funchal, I think we might like to head over to see Cabo Girão.
If we took a taxi, about how long would it take and how much would it cost? Would it be possible to get there/back by bus?
Thanks for your help!

Weather in November/car hire/accommodation Posted: Wed October 3, 2007 07:31 PM UTC
Hi there
I'm planning to visit Madeira in early November, I'm sure the weather will be unpredictable, but I wonder if any locals or regular visitors to Madeira might be able to tell me what the weather is normally like at this time of year - early/mid November?
Also, is it easy to hire a car from the airport in Funchal?
Is Funchal the best location to stay in at this time of year? Is it central enough to then visit other places too?
Last question! - would anyone recommend any bed&breakfasts in Funchal? Something simple, but good.
Lastly - can you swim in the sea in November? I'm used to the English channel/north sea so I don't need it to be too warm!
Would love to hear from anyone!
Thanks in advance.
