Segovia How far is Segovia Guiomar AVE station from city centrum?
Posted: Thu July 10, 2008 07:44 PM UTC
In Renfe website I found AVE station in called Segovia Guiomar but nowhere to find its address or how far it is from Segovia Center (lets say around acueduct).
Anyone knows the name of the street?
Is there a line bus which runs *frequently* between AVe station and center?
How much could cost a taxi?

Muchas gracias!

Valladolid I am planning a trip for 100plus architects/designers to Valladolid
Posted: Tue May 27, 2008 03:58 PM UTC
The aim of the is trip is (predominantly) to visit the site of a building we have recently designed. I am looking for suggestions of what to do with them, there will of course be the usual tours of castles and the local Gothic architecture and a trip to the wine museum (so far so predictable!). What I was thinking of was suggestions of different things to do, e.g. given the city's links with film , perhaps a cinema Paradiso type experience (I am drawing a blank with this via the normal channels). Recommendations of restaurants in perhaps unusual surroundings that could take 120 (aprox) architects/designers with an eye for detail and an appetite for good food. Suggestions for other activities e.g I am looking at Kayaking on the Duro, horse riding and that sort of thing. There has been lots of talk of the fact that the city was once the capital of Spain and that the Spanish language apparently originated there. In a nutshell I am interested in as many tips and anecdotes that you can let me have.

if there are any members from the area with a design background who would be willing to be interviewed by me for the booklet to accompany this trip that would be amazing too!

Thank you thank you thank you in advance

Salamanca Student accommodation
Posted: Wed May 21, 2008 11:56 AM UTC
Dear all,

I'm studying at the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca for 4 weeks in July 2008. I am enrolled for shared double room + 3 meals at the University hall for 640euros a month. This seems a bit pricy to me, as I have been looking at ads online (for e.g. www.loquo.com). I know it's trickier because I'm only seeking to flat for 4 weeks, but do you have any suggestions?? I would prefer to cook my own food and have my own room, and for cheaper! ?Es posible, no?

Gracias y hasta pronto!

Salamanca Question on Avila
Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 08:58 PM UTC
I was wondering if anyone knew if there was short term luggage storage in Avila. I will be staying in Salmanca and will stay the next night in Madrid. If possible, I would like to make a short stop in Avila and see what I can in the time I have but it won't be possible if I have to haul around luggage. Thanks in advance for your help.

Salamanca U. of Salamanca clothing items?
Posted: Fri February 22, 2008 03:02 PM UTC
My daughter studied at U. of Salamanca several years ago. There, she bought a baby blue sweatshirt (small) with the university's name and logo.

She recently lost that shirt.

Short of flying to Spain to get her a replacement, is there a store in Salamanca that sells similar university clothing, and accepts on-line orders (by credit card) for shipmnet to the US?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

All the best,

Salamanca Places to stay for backpackers
Posted: Fri February 15, 2008 08:37 PM UTC
Hey there! I'm hopefully gonna be in Salamanca in June and will be travelling with my boyfriend. We'd love to spend as little as possible on accomodation (we're backpacking around spain)and are open to cheap hotels, hostels, guesthouses, camping....

The only thing we do ask is that it would be a private room- I know I'd feel uncomfortable sleeping in a room with strangers.

Thank you!

Salamanca 2 to 3 star hotels in the city center of Salamanca
Posted: Mon January 21, 2008 08:41 AM UTC
Hi all! I've been to Salamanca just once but stayed in Hotel Vincci (good rates) which was a bit far from the city. I am taking some friends of mine with me. Some are quite elderly who prefer a hotel in the city center so in case they get tired, it is easy to return to the hotel.

What would be a nice 2 to 3 star hotel in the city center, ranging from around 60 to 80 Euros for a double standard room you can recommend?

What restaurant can anyone recommend to try in the area of the old city or city center?

Thanks!

Ávila de los Caballeros How far is it from the Renfe station to the old part of town? Any experiences this time of year?
Posted: Fri November 30, 2007 12:56 AM UTC
I received many wonderful suggestions but have decided to go to Avila - I know it will be quite cold! Could you advise how far is it from the train station to the walls? Also I was told the wall can be visited in two segments by the person in the Parador - any experiences with the walls? Are there parts that get iced over and can't be visited? Any of the places that sell the "yemas" better than the other?

Any other hints/ideas for Avila in the cold (other than what's already in the VT pages) welcome!

Castilla y León Bus from León to Segovia
Posted: Wed October 31, 2007 02:55 PM UTC
Hello, I am planning a trip to Spain for next April. I want to take the bus from León to Segovia. If I understand correctly, I have to take a bus with ALSA from León to Valladolid, then another bus with Linecar (whose www.linecar.es website is currently down, unfortunately) from Valladolid to Segovia. Does anyone know if I can buy a combined ticket for the entire trip or do I have to buy separate tickets? Thanks in advance for your help!

Segovia Bus Madrid - Segovia - LaGranja San Ildefonso - Bus turístico de Segovia
Posted: Sun September 2, 2007 09:30 AM UTC
Hello
I will come from Madrid to Segovia on 11 September and I want to visit also San Ildefonso La Granja.
Here http://www.madridinfosite.com/en/day-trips/madrid-segovia.aspx I can see this
By bus: The La Sepulvedana bus line has a route direct from Madrid to Segovia between 6:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. The buses run every half hour and trip takes about 75 minutes (6€). The buses depart from the Méndez Álvaro Station (Metro Méndez Álvaro). La Sepulvedana also has buses from Segovia to La Granja de San Ildefonso.
I can’t access the site of Sepulvedana (the English version is not functioning yet, neither some parts off the Spanish version, incluing routes/timetables.). and I have no answer to my e-mail , asking for timetables.

So I will be grateful to somebody who can tell me about a bus leaving Madrid near 8: 00 a.m with link to La Granja.

Where I can buy the tickets for the “ bus turístico de Segovia” ? Is it an Hop On Hop Off Bus like at Madrid or Barcelona?

Thanks

Castilla y León Planning a trip : how much time to spend in the different cities
Posted: Wed May 30, 2007 12:06 PM UTC
Hello,

I am planning my first trip to Spain and picked the Castille Leon province as my main target.

I am mainly interested in medieval and pre-medieval historical visits. I have picked a few potential places to visit during my 14 days trips.

My problem is : how many days should I plan in each of these cities to visit the city itself and the interesting attractions around it.

Here are the cities/attractions I would like to see :

Salamanca
Avila
Segovia
Burgos
Soria
Medina del Campo
Penaranda de Duero
Calatanazor
Berlanga de Duero
Ponferrada
Valporquero
(I know the last two are quite a way from the rest of the cities so it is realistic?)

Thanks!

Salamanca La Alberca or Avila to Porto...via Salamanca?
Posted: Tue May 1, 2007 08:55 PM UTC
My husband and I will be participating in an English immersion program in La Alberca (a lovely place) for the 2nd time this September. After that, we need to get from La Alberca to Porto for a Douro River cruise. We have a few over 48 hours to do this.

From the train maps, it appears there is a path, through Salamance to Coimbra to Porto. Would that be the best way to go or should we try one/more bus rides or even a rental car?

One challenge: my husband travels with a Segway (www.segway.com) to help him get around. Method of transport needs to accommodate it. We have flown with it to/from Madrid and other places and he's used it in La Alberca on the cobblestones and in parks on groomed trails.
