| Pai | treks Posted: Fri May 9, 2008 04:11 PM UTC
Looking to do a trek-hilltribes/elephants. Better to book one out of chiang mai, or in Pai? looking for one more authentic- where preferably can interact w/ hilltribes-or get true sence of culture.
If time is limited- should i stay in chiang mai and do a trek to Pai, or just also stay in Pai? Thanks. |

| Chiang Mai | November Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 04:39 PM UTC
I am planning on visiting Thailand in November-everyone has said I can wait until I get there to find a hotel. If I am there during the festival in Nov.- I've heard that can be a problem. How far ahead should I book it, how long after the festival do places stay booked? (If I wanted to avoid the festival time and not worry about reservations.)

| Pattaya | View Talay Holiday Resort Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 11:59 AM UTC
Hi,
Does anyone know anything about the View Talay Holiday Resort. We have 7 nights there which we got from an ebay sale but are having trouble trying to find a lot of information on it. I have previously requested similar information on here but (Computer stupid as I am) have been able to find the question to see if there were any responses so I aplogise if you are reading this again. Would REALLY appreciate any information though as the most I could find was a couple of negative experiences so I am hoping this is not all that is out there. Cheers Lejana & Marc Brisbane, Australia |

| Northern Thailand | trek tours Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 02:10 PM UTC
Im realizing I can save A LOT of money if I go to Chiang Mai on my own-and book a tour there, however I have also heard of some having bad experiences doing this. Should I book a US based company ahead of time that takes you from Bangkok through the whole tour- or would I be better off booking something once I arrive myself in Chiang Mai? I just dont know how to tell if they're reputable through their travel agencies. Also, any idea about what id spend to fly/take train from bangkok to chiang mai?
Thanks! |

| Phuket | HELP! Re: Child with severe peanut allergy Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 08:06 AM UTC
A friend of mines husband wants the family to go on holiday in Phuket, and my friend is worried sick about her youngest son who has severe peanut allergy and what food he will be safely able to eat. I have been to Phuket and she asked me my opinion, but I went with adults who basically lived on Thai and seafood and I don't want to say yes go in case something happened to him... Is there anyone out there in the same situation that can give their opinion or their experiences.

| Bangkok | Diamonds -Where to Buy? Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 09:24 PM UTC
I am traveling to Asia in June and have a two day layover in Bangkok. I am wondering if anyone can recommend a reputable place to buy a diamong engagement ring? Would I be able to purchase something significantly less than in the U.S.? I am looking for something under the $1,500 USD (48,000 Baht). Thanks in advance.

This will be my first time traveling to Thailand-and solo. Would I be better off booking most of my trip w/ an organized group tour-or just booking everything seperately as I go? I want to trek in N. Thailand as well as go to some of the beaches.

| Bangkok | Need some advice & info.... Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 11:20 AM UTC
Hi,
Can anyone give me some advice on transportation from airport to First Hotel Bangkok? We will arrive at the Bangkok Airport around 11.20PM (2320) & there is three of us, my husband, my three years old son and myself. Which one is better for us, Airport Express or Taxi? and where can we book Airport Express/Taxi? How long it take from airport to the hotel? And another question in my mind, is the First Hotel Bangkok really serve the Halal Food / Muslim Food (certified from the HalalThailand or state)? [for those who know about it]. Thank you very much. I hope anyone can help me, this is our first time in Bangkok. |

| Phuket | Weather in August Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 08:51 PM UTC
I will be taking a trip with some friends around the August time frame and we are curious about the weather in August. I understand that it is your rainy monsoon season, so would we expect constant rain all day, is there a chance of some sunny days? We are looking for some nice beaches and nightlife, so will the weather this time of year prevent us from exploring the island?

| Thailand | Need to lock backpack? Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 06:55 PM UTC
Is there any real need to lock my backpack, it will literally only contain clothes, shoes and maybe a few toiletries, anything like money, camera and documents will be in my hand luggage...is there any real risk that anyone would steal my clothes? Also, does anyone has an idea of the risk of things being put into my backpack, i've heard of this happening before and am very paranoid about it. I'm only taking a backpack because I already have one and don't want to waste money buying a suitcase, i'd prefer a suitcase, it would suit my better, but i'm trying to be careful with money.

| Ko Phi Phi Don | Phi Phi accomodation...going slightly mad Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 03:31 PM UTC
Please can someone help out, i've been browsing hotel sites, review sites, hostel sites for about 3 days now trying to decide where to stay on phi phi and it's driving me insane.
I've been before and stayed at Phitarom which I have to say was fantastic for the money, clean, luxurious, chilled out, excellent staff. Now you're thinking why not just stay there again. Well, as nice as it was, it wasn't beachfront and this time on phi phi we really want a beachfront place. We're not fussy as long as it's reasonably clean, reasonably secure, friendly atmosphere and not more than about £30/night...we can go up to £50/night without a problem, but would prefer to go lower if possible. We will be staying for 6/7 nights, the final week of our 2 week stay in thailand. We want to be close enough to the village to be able to walk into town and party if we feel like it and also be able to walk back home again in a drunken state. Howevever we don't want to be too close so we can just chill and relax in our chosen accomodation if we want to for a few days. Long beach has jumped out at us, mainly because of the snorkelling and closeness to hin phae (goat reef) this is a must for us whereever we stay, has to be good swimming and snorkelling...however we're worried it may be a little too far to talk home if we're drunk. I'm going to stop rambling on now, would appreciate any suggestions, thanks! |

| Phuket | beach hut accommodation Posted: Sat May 3, 2008 11:29 PM UTC
Hi all, we are planing a trip to Phuket early 2009. Would really appreciate some help in finding a beach hut somewhere. We are looking to stay in Karon or Kata for about a week (any suggestions for accommodation on beach)any resorts stand out that are beautiful? and then would like to go to maybe Krabi or somewhere around there to just chill out and relax. This is where we would like the beach hut accommodation. Any suggestions, maybe someone knows of a better place to stay than Krabi, we prefer the quieter sytles with the option of going where the noise is and then being able to escape it. Would love some feedback please.

| Chiang Mai | More Chiang Mai questions Posted: Sat May 3, 2008 08:03 PM UTC
Thanks for all the replies. Am wondering if we made a mistake planning 4 days in Chiang Mai area. It will be hot so too much trekking seems difficult. We are interested in cultural things and nature; boat rides. How much can we do ourselves as a middle-aged coupkle? Can someone suggest an English speaking guide who will take us where we want to go for a day or two...we do not want to have to go to restaurants. The villages sound interesting.
