Colombo 12 hrs plus 24 hrs layover.. what to do???
Posted: Mon June 15, 2009 05:50 PM UTC
hi

guys i have a 12 hrs layover (11pm to 11am the next day) and a 24 hrs layover (2pm to 2pm the next day) in Sri lanka.

have absolutely no idea what so ever of what to do... just know that i want to see the city, do a bit of shopping and take lots of snaps...

am 23 years old, so can stay awake/alert for extended durations...

any ideas what to do??

p.s. I read in the Sri lankan airport website they have a "Bond Baggage" scheme, where you can give them your luggage and take it back when you are departing... any ideas of its cost??

Sri Lanka First trip to Sri Lanka
Posted: Mon June 15, 2009 01:08 PM UTC
Hello. My partner and I are looking to combine a trip to the Maldives with 6 days in Sri Lanka. We would like to base ourselves in a hotel and then travel to see the country, but have a couple of questions...!

Where would be best to have our 'base'? Definites for us to visit are the elephant orphanage and some of the ancient cities. We are happy to use public transport (is it safe?) and would like to experience some of the real Sri Lanka, as opposed to staying in the resort. Having said that, it would nice if the hotel had a beach etc so that if we're exhausted we can stay at the hotel and relax!

I realise it's a long wish list but any ideas?!! Any suitable hotel recommendations? Also are there any other 'must see's'?

I was originally looking at the Mount Lavinia hotel but i'm not sure it's in the best place for sightseeing.... The idea of a different hotel appealed though, as opposed to a very polished or diso-every-night resort (which isn;t really our cup of tea).

Thanks for any help!

Sri Lanka Travelling to Sri Lanka with an infant
Posted: Fri May 8, 2009 08:26 PM UTC
My husband and I are travelling to Sri Lanka with our 5 month old son at the end of May. We'll be staying for a week in Negombo (flying with Sri Lankan Airways). We've never been to Sri Lanka before, but we travelled extensively as a couple pre-baby. I'd appreciate any advice regarding taking an infant to Sri Lanka.

Thank you.

Sri Lanka What plants?
Posted: Wed April 29, 2009 01:51 PM UTC
Anyone know the name of the plants that are in every room in hotels near the beach there? They are large seeds planted half covered in a shallow dish of soil and sand and the plant grows from the top of the plant. The seeds drop off the trees in all the gardens there.
Thanks

Posted: Mon April 27, 2009 07:35 AM UTC
Hi
We are headign to Colombo Friday 1st of May, and planning to stay there for two days then
hit the souhthern beaches. But we can't quite decide where to go, we've heard Bentota, Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna are among the best beaches. So we can't decide where to go since we have to pick only one.
I read somehwere that Hikkaduwa can get a bit crowded, Is it during this time of year?
Ideally we're looking to stay 2 days for relaxation, somewhere right ont he beach, in a nice Hotel, budget is no issue, maybe learn surfing. Is there such a place? Any advice on somewhere special to stay?
thanks

Sri Lanka First time family holiday to Sri Lanka... very confused... pls HELP!!
Posted: Sun March 22, 2009 12:43 PM UTC
Hello there,

We are a small family of 2 adults and a 5yr old child travelling to Sri Lanka on the 3rd June. We want to stay for 6-7 nights. We have the itinerary almost sorted out but am still soooo confused because we are travelling with a VERY ACTIVE child!

We plan to go to Bentota directly from the airport
(Jetwing Tropical Villas, Beruwela or Taj Exotica????)
Stay for 2 nights

Next go upto Nuwere Alyia
(Jetwing St.Andrews Hotel.. we are looking forward to white water rafting there .. any good?)
Stay for 2 nights

Next we go upto Dambulla
(Heritance Kandalama Hotel.. the website claims there to be a lot of activities for children too like pony back riding, bicycle rides, elephant trekking etc. Is this true because sometimes hotels make false claims and my daughter is too excited by this to be disappointed!)
Stay for 3 nights

Return to Colombo
Fly back.

I am confused whether the cities have been lined up in the right order or maybe we do Nuwere Alyia last to save us travel time on the way to Colombo. Also are the hotel selections right… keeping a child in mind or are there other more appropriate ones… please suggest!!
What about the weather .. is it alright at this time of the year.

I need a little help working out how to to about traveling from one point to another and how long it will take.

Very sorry if this was a loooong read.. but pls do leave your input !!

Sri Lanka Need Partners to go back to Sri Lanka again in May 2009
Posted: Sun March 8, 2009 05:20 AM UTC
Hi Everybody !
Just got back from Sri Lanka. Was there for two weeks and really enjoyed it. Super place. Was taken around by "Niroshan" a driver (contact through cananil@yahoo.com). Now I am planning to go back and want to find a few partners/friends who can come with me end of May 2009. It is cheaper to travel that way, taking a van, maybe 4 or 5 would be ideal.
Thanks in Advance !

Colombo Discount airline connecting Sri Lanka with Himalayan India, or Nepal?
Posted: Tue March 3, 2009 07:10 PM UTC
Discount airline connecting Sri Lanka with Himalayan India, or Nepal?

I am looking for a discount airline (flying Colombo to any Indian Himalayan city (i.e. Srinigar, or Dehradun, or even Amritsar), as long as it's nearby the tallest mountains. Also, a Colombo-Kathmandu flight would be nice as well. I am looking for a discount airline, or to go this route for under 100-200euro, max.

Thanks
