Coron Coron island hopping, oct 08
Posted: Tue August 26, 2008 02:09 PM UTC
Hi Guys,

My brother priest and 2 nephews (10 and 19) are island hopping in Coron on Oct 11 2008, visiting the popular sites like CYC, twin lagoon, kayangan lake and siete pecados. They will be hiring a boat and welcome at most 4 persons who want to join. Chip in P250/person for the boat and P250/person for lunch and snacks. Whole day affair with an option to stop by Makinit hot springs in the evening.

On Oct 13 they will go to Calawit, stopping by Concepcion falls for lunch picnic style and arrive Calawit in time for the afternoon wildlife feeding. They are renting an A/C van which can accommodate another 4 persons. Chip in P800/person for the car and P250/person for lunch and snacks. Back to coron around 9 pm.

Anybody interested email me. Wishing you all enjoyable holidays.

Province of Palawan Coco Loco Island Resort or Port Barton
Posted: Tue August 12, 2008 04:41 PM UTC
Hi all!

Me and my girlfriend are booked to go to Puerto Princesa, Palawan on December 13-16.

I am currently choosing between Coco Loco Island and Port Barton. I understand Port Barton have electricity only on certain times of the day. This is a minus for me as I am concerned that we might find it a little hot and humid when they turn off the electricity.

What are the advantages of one over the other?

Your thoughts are very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Province of Palawan EL nido the economical way
Posted: Wed July 23, 2008 03:02 AM UTC
I am planning to go to EL Nido this September. El Nido resorts look great and the reviews are awesome. It seems the people who stayed there had a blast. However, it is a little expensive. So I am trying to look for alternative hotels within the area that is good and not that expensive. Any suggestions? Also, if you do not stay in EL Nido resorts, it does not mean you can not go to the islands of Miniloc and Lagen, right? The El Nido resorts just provide you easy access to the points of interest in El nido and if I stay in other resorts, I can just rent a boat and go to those areas like the lagoons, etc. Am I correct? I would appreciate inputs/info from anybody. Thanks.

Province of Palawan daluyon resort vs. princessa holiday vs. cocoloco island
Posted: Wed July 16, 2008 01:47 AM UTC
I'll be in puerto princesa with my wife and kids (10 and 12 yrs old) on Aug 14-18. for the first 2 days we'll gonna stay at puerto princesa and go on trips like island hopping, city tour and underground river. For the next 3 days (Aug 16-18), we want to stay in a beach resort relatively near puerto princesa (about 2-3 hours drive). I am considering daluyon beach resort, princessa holiday resort and cocoloco island resort in roxas. can you help me decide which is the best resort to stay at considering the ff:

1. distance fr puerto princesa
2. food and service
3. beach (preferably white beach)
4. pool and other amenities for kids
5. accessability (paved roads)
6. security

thanks a lot

Province of Palawan Palawan during July / August
Posted: Sun June 8, 2008 12:46 PM UTC
Hi everyone,

My boyfriend and I are considering going to Palawan for a week in the end of July/ beginning of August this year. I understand that this is during the rainy season.
- Can anyone recommend me wether it is worth going there at this time of year or should we rather choose another destination?
- If we are going, are some places in Palawan better sheltered from the weather?
- How is visibility for snorkelling?
- If going we will be flying in to Manila, how is safety when flying further to Palawan, are any of the companies preferred over others?

Thanks a lot for any answeres!!

Province of Palawan 6-Day Palawan Itinerary
Posted: Tue May 27, 2008 11:24 AM UTC
Hey all,

I know 6 days isn't enough to make the most out of Palawan, but since it's our first time to go, we just want to see everything first and then return some other time to the place we liked best.

So I have two proposed itineraries - it's very hectic but since there's 7 of us we would be able to afford to charter boats and vans. We're also taking the Coron - Linapacan - El Nido (or vice versa) Tao Expedition, which should make things easier. We've already booked our MNL-PP return flights so wouldn't want to move them as much as possible.

I like Option 1 because the Subterranean River tour would be like an introduction to the rest of Palawan. However it means spending less time in Coron because we have to catch the flight back to PP (Seair only flies Coron to PP on Mondays and Fridays)
I like Option 2 because we can drop by Port Barton on the way back, and we can do away with the road trip in Option 1 (I've read somewhere that the roads are pretty bad)

========
OPTION 1
========
DAY 1 (Mon)
9:35 AM Puerto Princesa ETA
10:00 AM ETD for Sabang
1:00 PM Subterranean River, Monkey Trail
10:00 PM ETD to El Nido (van)
DAY 2 (Tue)
7:00AM El Nido ETA
9:00AM Tao Expedition ETD
Bacuit Archipelago
Waterfalls
DAY 3 (Wed)
Tao Expedition - Linapacan Islands
DAY 4 (Thu)
Tao Expedition - Coron
DAY 5 (Fri)
11:00AM ETD for Puerto Princesa via El Nido
DAY 6 (Sat)
9:00 AM Honda Bay
4:15 PM ETD to Manila

========
OPTION 2
========
DAY 1 (Mon)
10:00 AM Honda Bay (Quick Tour)
2:30 PM ETD for Busuanga (via El Nido - SEAIR)
3:30 PM Coron ETA
DAY 2 (Tue)
Tao Expedition ETD (Coron)
DAY 3 (Wed)
Tao Expedition - Linapacan Islands
DAY 4 (Thu)
Tao Expedition - El Nido
Bacuit Archipelago
Waterfalls
DAY 5 (Fri)
11:00 AM ETD for Port Barton (boat)
DAY 6 (Sat)
7:00 AM ETD to Sabang (boat)
9:00 AM Subterranean River
4:15 PM ETD to Manila (already booked)

So need advice on the following:

Are the itineraries (logistically) possible?
Which itinerary seems best?
Is Port Barton is really worth a stop?

Thanks in advance for your inputs!!! =)

Coron Island Village Lodge or Rudy's Place?
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 03:28 AM UTC
We are planning a trip to coron on June '08 and are looking for cheap but comfortable place to stay. Seadive is already fully booked so we searched for other alternatives. Found these two places. Almost the same rates so we're in a dilemma right now. Any advice? Thanks!

Province of Palawan P. Princesa, El Nido or Coron??
Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 05:04 PM UTC
I have something I haven't had for a loooong time - that is, the luxury of time.

However, I don't have an unlimited budget, so I turn to the knowledgeable members of the VT community who know and love Palawan to answer this question:

How do I split my time among Puerto Princesa, El Nido and Coron (or other places I haven't even thought of)

My priorities are to find adventures above and below land: so, scuba diving, hiking/trekking and a trip to the subterranean river are all in order.

I also enjoy cultural/social encounters, so any way to access 'old' Palawan is appreciated.

Finally, I love the physical beauty of island life, so beaches, views, etc. insights are all very welcome.

I would also like to stretch my pesos so high-cost acommodation is NOT a priority though I do like a modicum of comfort and the ability to plug into the web.

Please let me know your thoughts and/or point me to your best tips. Thanks!

Province of Palawan Palawan tour itinerary, help please!
Posted: Thu April 17, 2008 07:22 AM UTC
Hello! Am planning a tour for a group of 12 for the first week of July for probably 5d/4n, I'd really appreciate if you could help me in planning for it. We're looking forward to doing a city tour in Puerto Pricesa, Honda Bay, Underground River, to El Nido, and if time and budget allows, to Coron.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could give me tips regarding the places I had mentioned, where we can stay, and contact numbers of people who could help us there. We don't mind staying in a non-airconditioned room as we'll probably be out the whole day. And yes the budget is tight. c").

Help please...thanks in advance

Port Barton Travelling from Manila -> Puerto -> (Port Barton or San Vicente -> El Nido?
Posted: Wed March 26, 2008 08:49 PM UTC
I intend to go to El Nido via PP. I would like to avoid the long bus ride and instead pass by Port Barton or San Vicente. According to http://coconutgarden.palawan.net/gettinghere.htm:

"Airlines, Air Philippines and Cebu Pacific fly daily to Puerto Princesa. Ask the tricycle driver to bring you to the New Terminal in San Jose (Roxas, Port Barton Terminal). The jeepney leaves around 9:30 AM to Port Barton. If the jeepney for Port Barton has already left by the time you get there, there is a bus/van that leaves for San Vicente not later than 12:00 PM on the same station."

Since the cebu pac flight arrives at PP at around 10, can I still catch a bus/van to San Vicente? Has anyone tried this? Please post a contact number.

How about coconut garden resort? Is it a good place to stay in enroute to El Nido?

El Nido Puerto Princesa to El Nido Motorbike Rental Reliability
Posted: Tue March 25, 2008 02:55 AM UTC
Hello,

My husband and I are planning to rent a motorbike in Puerto Princesa to ride to El Nido. Can anyone tell me how reliable the bikes are and if they are well-maintained or not. What happens if you get a flat? Also, is that length of a trip feasible and how long should it take on a motorbike? Where, specifically can we rent from and can we make a reservation in advance?

Thanks so much, this is our first motorcycle rental and I'm a bit nervous.

Province of Palawan Is Tubattaha Reef worth the time, expense and effort?
Posted: Mon March 24, 2008 01:12 PM UTC
I keep hearing that Tubattaha ranks as one of the best in the world, but it requires a liveaboard trip with all the attendant overhead.

My question is: has anyone done this and can give an opinion either way? I searched VT and found nothing by that destination name.
