Kiruna Travel Time from Kiruna Train Station to Kiruna Airport
Posted: Thu May 22, 2008 05:27 PM UTC
We have 1 hour to transfer from our train at Kiruna Train Station to our plane at Kiruna Airport. Question #1: How reliable are the train schedules to Kiruna from Narvik (Norway)? Question #2: How long should it take us to get to the airport in Kiruna from the train station in Kiruna? Will we make our flight connection?

Kiruna Icehotel tour? Snowmobile?
Posted: Sat January 5, 2008 08:05 AM UTC
Hi all,

I just checked the price for the icehotel tour, and it's 295kr for a 30 minutes tour. Can someone tell me that is it worth going?

I have posted a quetion about snowmobile in Kiruna, I still cannot find any information about renting snowmobile for a day without joining any tours. Any of you know if there is snowmobile rental up there?

Also anywhere for skiing in Kiruna? We are all beginners, so just want to have a taste on skiing that's all, no need to be downhill. And we wonder about hiring the gears? Is it easy to find a place who do that?

Thank you very much for your help.

Kiruna snowmobile tour?
Posted: Wed December 19, 2007 12:05 PM UTC
Hi there, I'm planning a trip to Kiruna in March, and would like to try snowmobile and dogsled, however they are apparently quite expensive to go on both 'tour' at the same time, so we decided to just go for the snowmobile. So we want to know more information about it:

1. can we rent the snowmobile for a few days on our own? or we have to be joining those tours?

2. is it worth joining the tour to see the northern light? or the northern light is easy to be seen so it's not neccessary to join the tour?

3. about the guided tour in ice hotel, how much does it costs? and do we have to book in advance?

4. can we rent a tour guide? anyone know any website?

thanks in advance, and i really look forward to visit Kiruna and experience the magical phenonmenon!

Kiruna A weekend in the north
Posted: Fri April 13, 2007 12:39 PM UTC
I have only got the next three weekends in Sweden, and would really love to plan one of them to go north and do some dogsledding, ride a snow mobile, try some downhill skiing and perhaps see the ice hotel - is the weather still cold enough at the end of May and where is the best place to go to do all these things on one weekend?
Also any recommendations for good value for money companies that run these activities.
Cheers!

Kiruna Kiruna and around in May
Posted: Sat April 7, 2007 02:37 AM UTC
Hello!

From all I've read about Kiruna on the web and on the forum, I chose one of the worst times to go to Kiruna: no Auroras and no midnight sun (I'm a sucker for natural phenomenae!)...

Besides the mine and Abisko, what other things would you guys recommend for this time of the year? I'll be there from 15 to 23 of may and I've never seen snow or big amounts of ice (anything bigger than my ice tray is gonna be sooo good!!).

I love hiking and generally walking around and meeting people.

Also, does anybody know this hostel? http://www.yellowhouse.nu/
Is it any good?

Thanks and if you need advice on Brazil, I'm all yours. Cheers!

Kiruna Kiruna vs Tromso
Posted: Mon January 8, 2007 08:56 PM UTC
Hi all,

I am working in Linkoping at the moment and am desparately keen for an arctic weekend experience.

Would you recommend Kiruna or Tromso?
The main things I would like to experience are Northern lights (if possible), dog sledding and perhaps learn a little about lappland people, history etc.

Tromso appears to have more activities, but then there's the ice hotel in Kiruna.

Thanks

Kiruna Which one is better?
Posted: Thu February 16, 2006 01:55 PM UTC
I got confirmation from
--jarnvagshotelle (www.jarnvagshotellet.com)...990 SEK /night include BF
--Hotel E-10 (www.e-10.se)...1350 SEK /night include BF and dinner
We(4 persons) will arrive Kiruna at night then the next day we will go to see ice hotel and the day after we will go to Narvik by train.
Do you think hotel E-10 is quite far from the center? Which hotel is better for us? Because we wont have a car.
Thank you for your suggestion in advance.

Kiruna Recommend a place to stay?
Posted: Wed January 25, 2006 03:04 PM UTC
My father and I are going to be hiking part of the Kungsleden trail this summer, and we're going to be spending one night in Kiruna after finishing our hike before we fly back to Stockholm.

I've heard about the STF hostel, but I'm not sure my father is excited about hostelling it. Does anyone know if you can get a double room at the hostel or if they only have dorm beds? Can anyone suggest a moderately priced hotel/motel/b&b(something around $100 or 700 SEK a night) in or around Kiruna? We're looking for something smaller and home-like, not as much a place for businessmen.

Any info would be appreciated!

Kiruna Winter Clothing
Posted: Thu October 6, 2005 10:56 AM UTC
Hi,

As I'm an aussie, I've really got no idea on this one. I'm planning on going to Kiruna early January. What sort of clothing will I need at this time. I've got plenty of ski gear? Is that appropriate? I want to make sure I'm prepared, but everything I bring, I'm going to have to carry so I'd like to limit it to only what I'll need.

thanks

Kiruna Transport Kiruna to Nikkaluokta
Posted: Sun October 2, 2005 07:48 PM UTC
Hello,

In december, me and a friend arrive in Kiruna Saturday noon. We had intended to take the bus to Nikkaluokta the same day, but it seems there is no bus going there during weekends at that time of the year...

Does anyone see a solution?

I have thougt about hitch-hiking, does anybody know if people will take us along easily? (If there already are any cars on the road at that time...)

Exists any other system about carpooling there?

Thanks :-)

Kiruna Kiruna over xmas
Posted: Mon August 8, 2005 09:17 AM UTC
Hello to all
we are thinking about visiting lapland over the christmas period and would appreciate any sort of information as we dont have a real idea as to where the nicest area to stay would be. Any favourites? We were thinking about 10 days with our main aim to see the northern lights and a little bit of skiing. Where could we find some nice cabins not too far out of town where we could even have the option of spending our days relaxing. Where are the best skiing areas and is it advisable to bring your own gear or easier to rent something there
Thanks

Kiruna Where to stay
Posted: Sat June 19, 2004 06:23 PM UTC
Hi ,

We are a couple and we will be driving into Kiruna from Tromso on 23rd August 2004. We intend to staqy only one night before driving on to Rovaniemi. What would be a reasonable place to stay - we want to spend about 600 SEK for the night.
Also what can we see and do in this one day. What will the weather and temperatures be at that time ?

Kiruna Life in Kiruna
Posted: Wed June 2, 2004 07:35 PM UTC
Hi there! I was just wondering if anybody can tell me about how life is in Kiruna. For example, accommodation, nightlife, how difficult or not is to find a job, costs, weather etc. I always had a dream to go and live in a very northern place and as I have a degree on rocket science I am aware of Esrange (close to Kiruna) that is a great launch site so I could as well have a job there..
Thanks

Hej,

I have a 6am flight out of Kiruna to Stockholm on 28th July morning.

Was wondering if its possible for my friend and I to spend the night at the Kiruna airport? (cos we need to check in at 5am by logic and its too early to find transport from city centre right?)

Hej,

1) Would like to find out how to get from Jonkoping to Kiruna. There seemed to be no SJ trains. And i heard its operated by Connex. But the website is in Swedish. Does anyone know how i can get there? And how much does it cost for a student?

2) Are there any student hostels in Kiruna?
