Christchurch Sports Clothing
Posted: Mon January 8, 2007 01:57 AM UTC
I will be traveling to Christchurch in January 2007 and would like to purchase some sports clothing for my son as a reminder of my trip to New Zealand. His passion is volleyball. Does anyone know if the University of Canterbury, in Christchurch, has a volleyball team and whether vollebyall shirts that carry the name of the university are sold in their bookshop? Or, is there a good sporting goods shop in Christchurch that might carry apparel that shows it's from New Zealand, Christchurch, or the University of Canterbury?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the posts, we are going to NZ in late March and I will plan for every type of weather - different question: when there, I'd like to shop at a used or rummage or thrift shop or somewhere the locals donate their items: what do the NZers call it?
Thanks for your help.

Christchurch Any GPS in rented vehicle?
Posted: Thu July 13, 2006 02:55 AM UTC
Hi everyone,

I'm planning to rent a car or campervan on my coming trip to New Zealand.
My question is, are the vehicles come equipped with GPS navigation or do I have to rely solely on the good-old map?

I've browsed thru' the online rental sites and have not found anything on GPS yet.

Thanks in advance.

Christchurch Trip to South Island
Posted: Sun July 2, 2006 02:56 AM UTC
Hi everyone,

I'm planning my first trip to the South Island of NZ and would like to start my journey from Christchurch. We plan to rent a caravan and drive all the way. I've read on this forum on a few recommendations of places to visit but no mention of Invercargill. Is this a scenic place to visit?

What would the weather be like in September/October?

Are there a lot of places where we can park and camp out in the caravan in the South Island? And is it safe?

Hope to get some answers to my questions and thanks in advance.

Christchurch enquiries re south island, new zealand
Posted: Sat June 17, 2006 07:11 AM UTC
I will be travelling to south island with some friends (5 persons). As we are all retires and in our 50's & 60's please recommend us convenient (near to town centres, food and pubs joints) and cheap accommodation (average NZ$60-70 per room per night) in Christchurch, Greymouth, Fox Glazier, Wanaka, Queenstown, Dunedin, Timaru and Methven.

Also I will appreciate if you could give me some driving tips as we will be driving all the way and our trip is expected to be sometime in early August.

Would appreciate if you could give us some recommendation of "must see" and "must do" of the above places that we are going to visit.

Many thanks and best regards, Wendy poon

Christchurch Donuts near christchurch city centre
Posted: Tue March 14, 2006 05:27 AM UTC
hi

I'm staying with a friend at Peterborough near the George. We have an extreme craving for some good donuts, ie. pretty light and fluffy rather than chewy and doughy. We tried some mini donuts from a stand near cathedral sq but could not find it again. Can anyone tell us where to find some nice donuts preferably near Cathedral Sq or Peterborough St or anywhere in between so we can walk there. As detailed directions as possible, we don't mind takeaway or sit down with caffeine. help!

thank you in advance!

Christchurch Walking tour
Posted: Wed March 1, 2006 01:56 AM UTC
We are a group of fitness walkers from Canada who will be visiting Christchurch for 1 day. We are coming by cruise ship and will be in port from 8 AM to 6 PM. Though we are all seniors, we are capable of walking 10 to 20 km at an average speed of 5 km/hr. Any suggestions for an interesting route in and around Christchurch?

Thank you, Ed

Christchurch Arthur's Pass or other short stays
Posted: Wed February 15, 2006 02:04 PM UTC
Hi

Going to NZ and Christchurch for the first time to visit a good friend, my friends and I are discussing a short stay, either 1 or 2 nights near Christchurch. Have seen Arthur's Pass National Park mentioned, is this worth doing and staying over, what is there to do there?

Can anyone recommend where to stay? Value for money accomodation please, comfortable but on the cheap side. There will be 4 of us probably.

If not Arthur's Pass, can anyone suggest anything else? We're already planning to daytrip the French like village, and also the springs and just go see "the mountains" for a hike.

How far away is Arthur's Pass from city centre? We plan to drive but really I'm supposed to be the driver and have not driven manual for a long time. I'm told the traffic is easy there compared to Singapore where I live which is all city.

thanks in advance!
