Christchurch How's Visiting South Island by Campervan in July?
Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 03:26 AM UTC
I am planning a 3 week's family (2 adults/2 kids) trip to NZ for this July. One friend recommended me by campervan, which is the way I haven't experienced before. But is it OK to drive further south in NZ winter time? Will it be too cold to sleep in the Campervan in July?

Thank you in advance.

Christchurch Christchruch and South Island in winter
Posted: Sun March 30, 2008 09:09 AM UTC
My wife and I are planning to fly in to Christchurch in late July-early August and are considering renting a car to take in some of the sights. My question is whether most of the better sites will be accessible at that time of year or are likely to be closed due to snow and ice conditions.

Christchurch Seeking advice on winter trip to Christchurch and area
Posted: Mon March 17, 2008 09:47 AM UTC
We're going to be in Australia in July and August and were wondering whether a trip to Christchurch and surrounding area would be worthwhile in August or woujld it be really cold there at that time of year. Would it be advisable to rent a car or would many of the roads be impassable due to snow?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Would you please forward a way we could send them this wonderful photo

Christchurch Booking of accommodation in advance
Posted: Sun October 21, 2007 02:13 PM UTC
Hi,
my wife and I will be visiting Christchurch for the first time in Nov. We are not sure whether we should book our accommodation in advance. We are planning to stay over nite in a few places like Christchurch, Queenstown, Wanaka and Hamner Spring from 18 to 22 Nov. Are these dates school holiday? When is the school holiday in NZ?
We'll be staying in budget motels / backpackers. If you have suggestions on reasonable rates, please advise. TQ

Hello. My husband and i are planning to go to Christchurch early next year and saw several very good deals from jetstar and virgin blue. Can anybody give inputs regarding reliability (schedules) on these 2 airlines and if they're really good bargains? Also is it better to fly into christchurch from melbourne or from sydney? Thanks.

Christchurch Pre-book accommodation or take our chances
Posted: Mon May 7, 2007 11:54 PM UTC
Hi all,

We are making our first trip to NZ Christchurch in December for a week. We're not too sure yet of what we'll be seeing or doing during the trip.

Should we pre-book our accommodation or do we just turn up and see how we go? I don't like the idea of having to fit to a schedule, but then I don't want to risk getting stuck and not having anywhere to sleep.

How have others planned their trip?
Thanks

Christchurch Skin Mountains
Posted: Mon May 7, 2007 12:20 PM UTC
We're going to Christchurch in Aug and would love to drop by the ski mountains. I heard there are 3 main ones, but any idea how do they work? We probably don't intend to stay over at the ski resort, can we just drive up for like half a day? Or actually book accomodation at the foot of the moutain or something?

Also, the car rental company offered snow chains, how do these work and how many do we need?

Sorry for the stupid questions, we hail from a tropical island! :)

Appreciate all advices!

Christchurch Hire Campervan type vehicle
Posted: Fri April 20, 2007 01:39 PM UTC
We are travelling to Christchurch in November 2007 from Australia and would like to hire one of those Campervan vehicles ( 4 berth) We have been searching prices on the internet from Australia and New Zealand and are getting quotes of aprox $200 per day. (We need a van for approx 10 dys) Does anyone know of a company that hires these vehicles at a cheaper rate. We prefer to hire a camper van than a car and then stay in a motel each night, but maybe it is cheaper to do the motel thing? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Christchurch What to do
Posted: Sun March 25, 2007 03:32 AM UTC
Hello all!

I am an American student studying abroad for a semester in Australia. For our Easter break (April 7-15), myself and 3 friends are flying into Christchurch (2 other guys, 1 girl). I was just wondering if anyone has advice about what to do and where to go. We are all looking to have a good time, but I can drink and party pretty much anywhere, and this will probably be the only time in my life I'll be in New Zealand. Another major guideline is whatever we do must be cheap (hostels, no car, etc.) We will be there for a whole week, but we only wanted to spend a couple days in the actual city. We were thinking about going out and traveling around the country, see the scenery, etc.

First, where should we go while we are in the city? Is there anything that is a must see while we are there? Also, does anyone have suggestions about where are nice places to go away from the city (must be accessible by public transportation). This is where we want to spend the majority of our time. It doesn't have to be a day trip, we are planning to travel around the country for a few days. We just need to be back in Christchurch to fly out.

Thanks a bunch!

Christchurch Sports Clothing
Posted: Mon January 8, 2007 01:57 AM UTC
I will be traveling to Christchurch in January 2007 and would like to purchase some sports clothing for my son as a reminder of my trip to New Zealand. His passion is volleyball. Does anyone know if the University of Canterbury, in Christchurch, has a volleyball team and whether vollebyall shirts that carry the name of the university are sold in their bookshop? Or, is there a good sporting goods shop in Christchurch that might carry apparel that shows it's from New Zealand, Christchurch, or the University of Canterbury?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the posts, we are going to NZ in late March and I will plan for every type of weather - different question: when there, I'd like to shop at a used or rummage or thrift shop or somewhere the locals donate their items: what do the NZers call it?
Thanks for your help.
