Any room accommodation under US$40/night in Perth? Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 03:06 PM UTC
Hi, I'm planning for my first trip to Perth for 5-7 days in Sept. However, I can't find any accommodation is under US$40/night. As I understand from the forum that transportation system is very good in Perth, think it won't be a big headache if the guest house/motel is not in the down town? Can anybody help?
Many tks.

Hi ppl, i will be reaching perth this coming sunday 28th jun. will be leaving on the 1st july.
I am planning an overnight farmstay and 3 days city stay.
I plan to rent a car, should i go for the farm stay at swan valley first followed by the city stay? i heard that parking in the city is quite expensive. Should i use public transport while travelling around in city- fremantle, kings park , bell tower etc..
Hope that someone can give me some good advice. thanks in advance.

booking tours online beforehand or upon arrival? Posted: Thu June 18, 2009 02:38 PM UTC
Hi!
I was just wondering which option would be better.
Should I book the tours I want beforehand, or book when I arrive in Perth?
Which option would be cheaper? or will it cost the same?
Thanks.

Can I bring this in? Posted: Mon June 1, 2009 03:08 AM UTC
I'm flying to Perth in less than a week and I just realised that I might not be able to bring my oatmeal protein over.
I work out very often at the gym and I take oatmeal protein (basically oats with protein powder) for breakfast. I think this would fall under 'dairy products'
I read a few websites including the Australian Customs authority and I'm a bit confused. Can one bring in dairy products in or has anyone tried briging protein powdered drink in? would be grateful. thanks

Biggest Perth Skyscraper Posted: Tue May 19, 2009 12:45 PM UTC
What is the exact name of the largest skyscraper in Perth? The tall silvery one? I somehow remember "Westpac Tower" but I'm not sure any more. The writing at the top reads "St George".
(No, not the BankWest Tower, the other one.)
Thanks for any help...

Self Drive: Albany-Denmark-Margaret River-Bunbury-Perth Posted: Sun May 10, 2009 08:03 AM UTC
Hi All
I have finalised my trip and will be arriving Perth 19th May (night), picked up my car the next morning and will start driving to Albany in the morning and I need some advise from fellow VTs.
Day 1: Arrive Perth, check into hotel
Day 2: Drive to Albany and spend the afternoon in Albany and visit Mt Clarence, Natural Bridge, The Gap, Blowhole and stay at Emu Point Motel for the night
Day 3: Whale Watch in the morning (9 am to 1 pm) and visit the Wind Farm before driving to Denham. Stop by Wilson Inlet and proceed Walpole and visit Green Pool and Elephant Rock along the way. Likely to Overnight at Walpole although I prefer to stay at Pemberton and do the tram ride in the morning but I think it will be too long drive.
Day 4: Visit the Valley of Giants and Tree Top Walks, and Conspicuous Cliff Lookout. Travel to Pemberton and visit Gloucester Tree. Travel to Augusta for Cape Leeuwin Lighhthouse and travel to Margaret River (MR). May stay in Augusta if it gets too late and travel to MR the next morning.
Day 5: Visit Jewel Cave and winery in the morning. Proceed to Busselton and Bunbury where I will stay for the night.
Day 6: Visit the Dolphins and spend the rest of the morning in Bunbury. Proceed to Frementle. Overnight in Frementle or Perth.
Day 7: Perth – King’s Park and shopping. Flight back at 12 am – to arrive airport by 10 pm.
1. I have only made hotel reservation for my first night in Perth and planning to stay in Emu Point Motel in Albany and would leave the rest depending on where I stop. Would I have problem getting accommodation during this period (20-25th May). Any one stayed at Emu Point Motel before? Is it a good place?
2. How the weather and temperature in south? I heard this is the rainy season, will I be expecting a lot of rain?
3. Is the itinerary above feasible? My last day is flexible if I decide I need more time at certain area but I certainly need to be in Perth by late afternoon of Day 7 to ensure I don’t miss my flight! (I missed my flight once and it’s in Perth!)
4. Any hotel recommendation for Walpole(near tree walk), Bunbury (near Dolphin Discovery) and is considering The Noble Grape B&B for it’s location (close to wineries and chocolate factory) and Margaret River Farmstay (for farm stay – I love animals!!!) at Margaret River. I am hoping it will be around $120 and not more than $150 per night. Any recommendation is greatly appreciated!
5. Any must visits that I miseed out or are there any places I mentioned that's not worth visiting?
Thanks a lot!

so many parks and wineries to choose from Posted: Sun April 19, 2009 01:16 PM UTC
Hi!
I was doing some research and I realised that there was so many choices for parks and wineries.
For eg. if I want to go to one winery, should I choose one in Fremantle/Swan Valley/Margaret River?
Besides that, for parks:Nambung National Park/Yanchep National Park/any other parks you know of, which would you recommend and why?
just to put things into context, I am looking for a place which is hopefully easily accessible by public transport from Perth and the most affordable. =)
Also, is there any place where I can learn more about the aborigines?
Thanks!

Perth Land tours / Perth or Fremantle as travel base Posted: Wed April 1, 2009 10:28 AM UTC
Am thinking of heading to Perth in May to take advantage of the recent jetstar sales. However I don't drive, so was wondering if there are any land tours I can sign on for while in Perth.
Also, is it more convenient to stay in Perth or Fremantle? It's my first trip to Australia, so I can't be sure which is better.
Thanks all

Perth, Australia - Self Drive Posted: Sat March 28, 2009 03:39 AM UTC
Hi, we are going to Perth (2 adults and one 5 yrs old kid) from 9 to 16 Sept 2009 (8 days 7 nights).
We are still considering whether to go for a self drive package or just visit Perth City and nearby places eg. Fremantle,Mandurah, Cottesloe Beach, Scarborough etc.
1)Any suggestions on self drive eg. 5 days 4 nights (Perth-Albany-Pemberton-Dunsborough-Perth)? We got a few quotes approx. AUD1400 to AUD1620 for the package (car rental & accommodation for 3 pax)and including 3 nites stay in Perth. Is that reasonable price or any recommendation on other agent/website?
2)We are arriving at 5.40a.m. local time on 9 Sept and depart very early for 7.ooa.m. on 16 Sept 2009? what are your suggestion, shall we take taxi or shuttle bus or rent a car from airport to accommodation in Perth City?
3)What and how are the parking charges in Perth City and places nearby eg. Fremantle,Mandurah ? Is it advisable to drive in Perth or just take the public transportation,eg. bus, train or ferry ?
Thanking in advance for your suggestions and sharing with us.

holiday north of fremantle Posted: Mon March 23, 2009 03:09 PM UTC
from reading the forum it appears that fremantle rather than perth is a better destination for a short (3 days) holiday.
what about north of fremantle, say scarborough beach? are there good and reasonably priced hotels there? we won't have a car so is getting there from the airport by taxi still about AUD55? is public transport readily available for a day trip into perth and fremantle?
hope this makes sense and I am not trying to be unkind to perth which I know is a wonderful city which we want to explore during our brief first stay in WA.

JetStar Flight Perth Singapore Return Posted: Tue March 17, 2009 09:19 AM UTC
With cheap flights on offer I am thinking of having a week in Singapore, however as I am 6 foot 5 inches tall fell there may be a problem with seating and leg room. Where seating is in rows of 2 seats I can usually manage, but have never flown Jetstar.
Appreciate any information.
