Perth Re Mandurah and swim with dolphins
Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 04:16 PM UTC
A friend suggested that it is a good idea to stay overnight at a canal home in Mandurah to see the dolphins and also to drive towards Rockingham to swim with them.Is it worth doing? and would it be too cold to swim since we're going to be there end of May?

Perth Re:Wildlife Parks.
Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 04:09 PM UTC
I am debating which of these Wildlife Parks I should take the kids-Caversham, Cohuna or King's Park? I would like to see all but unfortunately, I only have time for one.Obviously, seeing the kangaroos and koalas are a must-do but which one would be best for the kids?

Perth Drive Perth to Darwin - 4wd vehicle required?
Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 11:32 AM UTC
Hi,

I'm driving from Perth to Darwin in September, over 25 days (a tourist trip). I need to know whether i should hire a 4wd or whether i will be fine with a 2wd vehicle - can anyone help?

I know i can (physically) do the drive in a 2wd, but will i be missing out on all the "best" sights if i lack an off-road capability?

Many thanks,
Aliki

Perth Re:Which forest?
Posted: Sat May 3, 2008 04:46 PM UTC
As I am short of time,I would like to be selective in visiting forests. My friend recommended that I go to Pemberton to see the tallest Karri fire-look out tree; another suggested that my kids would enjoy the Tree Top walk in Walpole more, and yet another said I should not miss the Valley of the Giants & visit the Giant Tingle Tree.I would love to do all if I had a lot of time on my hands but as it is,I don't so I'm having some problem here of deciding which would be a better option. Any help here would be appreciated.

Perth Re: Travel from south back to Perth
Posted: Sat May 3, 2008 04:05 PM UTC
If I were to make my way back to Perth after visiting the giant trees and the Tree Top walk which I beleive is between Walpole and Denmark, which would be the fastest route back? Would it be quicker if I were to just drive down to Albany and make my way northwards or would it be faster if I were just to track back to Walpole and head towards Bunbury and then from there to Perth?

Hi,

We are a family of 6 (5 adults and 1 child) who are traveling to Perth in June. Planning to do a farmstay in Margaret River but is caught in a difficult situation on which farm to choose!! We currently are struggling between these 2 options and would glad if somebody can give some advice:

Sunflowers Animal Farm: Have lots of animals,so will be great for the kid but the room as shown on the website doesn't look fantastic

Margaret River Hideway: Rooms shown in website look very comfy with very nice outdoor view.

Perth Re:What to see and do in 10 days in Perth?
Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 05:10 PM UTC
We're a family of 6 with 1 teenager,a 12 year old, a 10 and a 5 year old kid visiting Perth in end of May to June for 10 days.
Our plan is to have a farmstay for 2-3 days- any recommendation?
A trip to either Margaret River vineyards or Swan River- which would be better?
A trip to Rottnest Island- is there any accommodation there which would cater for our family of 6?
Would we have time to visit the Pinnacles and is it a worthwhile trip especially for the young ones?
Perhaps a visit to a beach.
The rest of the trip would be spent just exploring Perth and Fremantle.
Would it be more worthwhile to hire a car while in Perth and Fremantle or could we rely on public transport?
Also would appreciate any suggestions for a B&B or cottage or lodge stay that would be able to accommodate us or have 2 interconnectiong rooms.
Thanks.

Perth Perth & WA Water Question
Posted: Sun April 20, 2008 03:35 AM UTC
Hi Perthians,

I will be in Perth in mid-June, and also traveling up north through WA to Darwin. I am wondering about your recommendations about drinking tap water versus buying bottled water in the locations below. I have done some research already, looking at CSIRO, for example, but I didn't come to a consistent conclusion. I know that in many areas the water is bore/groundwater and can have some bacteria or pesticides, but on the other hand, treated city water is probably just fine? Or does it have too much salinity? I have been to many of the locations below already, except Perth and Exmouth, but I don't remember what I did with the drinking water situation, and some updated advice would be most appreciated. I'm not a fussy person, and usually drink tap water. Many thanks!

Perth Nice hotel in Perth
Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 12:10 AM UTC
We are going to be in Perth June 3 to June 7 (then 2 months travelling around the country), arriving by train from Sydney. We (husband & I, 68 & 67) are looking for a nice hotel in Perth or Freo. We don't have any special requirements, just want a nice place to come back to after touring around all day. We will have a car.

Perth flights to perth from uk

We are a family of five all on full fare planning to visit Perth over xmas. Any ideas on most economic tickets? Don't mind how long it takes us. Is it worth holding off buying for a while - will there be any specials over the coming months or are we being optimistic?

Perth Accommodation advice - hotels and/or apartments
Posted: Tue February 5, 2008 12:43 PM UTC
Hi all

My brother, his girlfriend and I will be in Perth late April for 6 nights. I have been recommended to stay anywhere in the city, South Perth or Como but that's the extent of the recommendations!

Considering that there are 3 of us, I'm thinking it might be cheaper to book a self-serviced apartment (must have a car space). Can anybody confirm this please and also recommend any? Alternatively, can anyone recommend any nice, cheap hotels/motels?

Thanks!

Perth early april in perth

am arriving in melbourne april 1 and will hang out there for a few days and then fly into perth. have been in melbourne before (love it) and up and down the east coast but never west. i'll be there for about five days only so i'd like to make the most of my time. what is absolutely essential to see or do? i'm not a diver or into any arcane sports but do want to explore beaches.

what's the weather likely to be like at that time?

any recommendations for a centrally located hotel or hostel or should i just head out to a beach place?

if any vters are going to be around, would love to meet and swap travel stories...looking forward to replies! thanx, annp

Perth Best time to travel & more??
Posted: Thu December 27, 2007 07:35 PM UTC
I was wondering if anyone can help. All my husbands family have recently moved to Perth and he wants to go and visit them. Of course I want to as well, but I have a few concerns. I have 2 children, 9 and 3 and I am seriously worried about the flight for the little one. Has anybody done this journey with a little one in tow and do you have any tips to make it as stress free as poss. Also, we were considering going over at Christmas and New Year 2008/9, but I am worried about the heat with my 2 little pasty English cherubs!!!! We do have to fit it around school holidays in the uk, so the only other options would be July & August which I know is winter there, or possibly Easter - does anyone have any thoughts on this??

One last one - in your experiences are flight better with Quantas, singapore airlinesor Emirates. Is one more child friendly or not?

Thanks for your help.

Perth Sandboarding at Lancelin
Posted: Thu December 13, 2007 07:10 AM UTC
My family plans to do Sandboarding at Lancelin on the morning of arrival in Perth.

Saw a website about Desert Storm Tour. http://www.desertstorm.com.au/
Are they the only sandboarding operator or there are others? Do we need to book in advance for the other operators?

How much does the sandboarding cost for per pax? Is it available round-the-clock or have to watch for their time-schedule?

Thanks in advance for any info rendered.

Perth Tubing!
Posted: Thu December 6, 2007 02:03 PM UTC
Is there anywhere in Perth or the surrounds to go tubing? You know, where you sit in an innertube and float along. Your innertube supported cooler of beer at your side.... feet in the cool water, sun shining down!

Or will you get eaten by crocodiles?

Perth Apartments / Flats / Etc. for Rent in Perth........
Posted: Tue December 4, 2007 03:40 PM UTC
Hi,

I'm extremely fortunate in that I have the opportunity to visit Perth for some two weeks. I'm very excited about the prospect of seeing a new country... also, beer, and civilization.

When I visited Prague (Few years back) folks would rent out a room or their entire apartment to you for a few days or weeks. Is there anything similar in Perth? I haven't had much luck finding such on the Internet.

I'm arriving on the 6th or 7th .... and staying till the 20thish.....

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance,

:) Justin

Perth Perth Dilemma - Winter Packing Problem
Posted: Fri November 30, 2007 10:12 PM UTC
It looks like I will be coming to Perth for a 4-day convention, and several days leisure pre-post, in mid-June 2008. I've checked the weather, and it was about 6C-14C (44F-57F) last year, and some rain. Brrr .. I was picturing myself in open-toed sandals and all-cotton, like last November in N.T. and northern W.A. Now, I need to consider what type of coat to bring. Since it has to go with business clothes, what would you suggest? Trouble is, I'll also have some leisure days when I'll just be in casual clothes. If I don't have what is suitable to Aus-wear, then I'll look at the post-holiday sales here. You fashionistic VT Perth gals could help me with your good advice, and many thanks!

We are self-driving in Perth & South West from 17Dec ~ 24Dec.

Would appreciate any advice/help on these queries:

Is there a website for map and distance calculator?
Can I buy a pre-paid phone card for local use?
Is internet connection easily available?
Is Fremantle market open on 17 or 24 Dec?
Is it worth spending one nite at Swan River or WaveRock?
Heard there are many flies. Any remedy?
Where is the best place to see Dolphins, do rafting, fly airballon?

Thanks
