Bullfightings is my next travel plan. Can anyone inform me what about to the Madrid? I know that starts at May-June till September, but as i read Hemingway's book "Death at Afternoon", i see some rules that i need to confirm.
- Is 3 "shows" every evening? - Witch names are the "must to see"? - How is the tickets prices? - Better early the summer, or late at August September? Thanks in advance, if some expert give me an answer, i will mail him to ask more. K. |

| Madrid | Help! Shopping In August!! Posted: Mon July 21, 2008 02:43 PM UTC
I've been to Madrid a couple of times already but never in August as I've heard the city pretty much shuts down.. I'm on my way to the Balearics, where I go every year but this time I have a one day stop in Madrid, August 6th, which is a Wednesday and I'm wondering if the shops in and around Sol and Fuencarral (Bershka, Blanco, Mango..) will be open or closed and what the hours will be like... This was the only route I could take for the rest of my trip and I'm just worried that I'm going to get stuck with nothing to do for an entire day.. I land at 10AM in Barajas and have already done the whole sightseeing bit and it will be too scorching to bother wandering aimlessly... Please any help or info is appreciated!!!!

| Madrid | Spanish designers Posted: Fri July 18, 2008 06:02 PM UTC
I'll pass through Madrid on my way to the south and I would like to visit some shops from Spanish emergent designers. I'm interested on clothes, home products and stationaries. It is even better if you know some mix shops which you find sometimes a shop together with a cafe and/or galeria. Does anybody have any suggestion? I'll be in Madrid from 2pm to 9pm and I'm wondering if the shops at Chueca are opening this time? Last question: any suggestion for having lunch in the area?

| Madrid | hotel in Madrid Posted: Thu July 10, 2008 04:26 AM UTC
Hi-
I am looking for some suggestions on hotels in Madrid. We would like something centrally located for a great price. I have actually already asked this question and someone on the site gave me great recommendations, but the one I looked into (Hostal Adriano) did not work out and I don't have the rest of the suggestions they gave. So if you are on here I would love to have them again. thanks! |

Hi VT gang, I will be arriving in Madrid about 11 AM and then taking the metro to the Mendez bus station with the intent on catching a bus to Granada that afternoon. Will I be able to just show up an hour before the bus leaves and get a ticket or do I need to get reservations a day or two in advance? There appears to be buses every half hour or hour. TIA, Karl

We will be arriving in Madrid at about 5 pm on Saturday and are travelling with 2 kids, 1 suitcase and 2 pullmans. What is the most convinient way to get to our hotel High Tech Avenida located at C/Mesoneros Romanos 14 (esquina con Gran Via 33). Is there a shuttle or is it better to take a cab or metro? If cab, approximately how much would it cost? Appreciate your reply, thanks.

| Madrid | Question on Madrid Apartment Rentals Posted: Mon June 30, 2008 01:11 AM UTC
So I'm going to Madrid for the first time in September with one or two other people and I was looking for different various accommodations. One type of accommodation really interests me and that type are these apartment rentals that linked off of craigslist.org. Can anyone tell me if these are legit cause the prices on them seem to be too good to be true. What should one keep in mind while booking one of these? What are some legitimate apartment booking websites. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!

| Madrid | Help Planning Day Trips From Madrid!! Posted: Sat June 28, 2008 07:50 AM UTC
Hi Everyone!
I'm a single traveler arriving in Madrid on midnight of 29th Jul 08 on EasyJet. Taking a noon flight on EasyJet to Barcelona on 5th Aug 08. Tentatively, plans now is to spend time in Madrid from 3rd (Sunday) cos of the El Rastro & Bullfights! I'm not too sure how I should plan my itinerary before that. First Question before everything: "Should I spend the night of 29th in the Airport? My flight touches down @ midnight exactly & I'm worried I might miss the trains. On a budget so cabs are out of the question." Now for the daytrips. My options are: 1) Avila 2) El Escorial 3) Segovia 4) Toledo I intend to start on the 30th Jul (Wed) morning, and must be back in Madrid on 2nd Aug (Sat) night. Question 2: "How should I plan these 4 locations into the 4 days such that I have enough time to explore? Or is it worth to visit all those areas? I'm pretty confident Madrid has enough things to fill in the blanks. =)" Question 3: "When planning, should I plan a night @ these locations or return to Madrid @ night? I've secured a booking in Madrid for 19 euros a night. If its cheaper to sleep in Madrid, that's what I wanna do." Cheers! |

| Madrid | Prices in Madrid... Posted: Mon June 23, 2008 08:55 PM UTC
Hello everyone,
I wonder if anyone would kindly answer my questions: 1. Can you tell me what to expect to pay for food and drinks in Madrid? 2. I'm looking to stay at ApartHotel En Busca del Tiempo is this a safe/nice area? Do you feel that the cost - 65 euros per night is reasonable? 3. Finally - what ways can I get from the airport to ApartHotel En Busca del Tiempo - how much shall I expect to pay for a taxi or tube or bus? Many thanks for any help you can offer :-) |

| Madrid | Hotel Name - Is it on the List? Posted: Sat June 14, 2008 05:15 AM UTC
We stayed in the Eco Alcalá Suites, Santa Leonor, 24, 28037 Madrid
The closest I can get to this in the hotel list is NH Alcala Hotel Madrid. I think that is at ALCALA 66 Madrid, 28009 ES It doesn't seem to be the same hotel. It the hotel I stayed at on the VT list? If so, what is it called on the list? In either case, how can I change my tip to the correct location? Every time I try, it just goes back to NH Alcala Hotel. Do I have to delete my tip and re-enter it? |

| Madrid | a new look on things in madrid Posted: Sat June 14, 2008 12:25 AM UTC
Hey! 2 aldults and 2 children ages 17 and 14 are planning on going to Madrid for 4 days. Here are my plans so far of what to do each day. Tell me if I will have time to do all the activities I hope we can do each day.(but dont want it too busy) Or if it is impractical to do certain activities on the same day (example: they are far away from each other, though I tried to not let that happen) Also any other activities we should do. So you can help us more: I am interested in outdoor stuff but still like pretty much anything else. (Sorry that didn’t explain anything) my brother likes things that are interactive. (Example: street fairs and hands on museums. not look at a painting place or look but don’t touch places) My dad loves history. And my mom likes anything to do with the Catholic Church (we have been to Italy) and she likes beaches. As always suggestions are appreciated. Thanks
Day 1-Madrid- Hotel: overnight train • 7:45pm-leave for Madrid($612) Day 2-Madrid- Hotel: Hotel Preciados • 9:13am-arrive in Madrid Day 3-Madrid- Hotel: Hotel Preciados • Royal Palace • Royal Tapestry Factory Day 4-Madrid- Hotel: Hotel Preciados Day 5-Madrid/Lisbon- Hotel: Hotel Preciados • 10:45pm leave for Lisbon($540) |
