Dubai How Hot
Posted: Fri May 23, 2008 10:04 AM UTC
We are planning to roam around on a foot a bit in early mornings and later afternoons.

Are we being too optimistic?

Just wondering if it is going to be VERY HOT HOT HOT, say around the souks after 4pm? Especially for our little baby?

What time of a day would you suggest for a walk around this time of a year?

Thanks!

Dubai Over the Counter Products
Posted: Wed May 21, 2008 08:00 AM UTC
I've heard that many medicinal products freely available elsewhere are prohibited from being brought into Dubai. Can anyone advise whether something like a packet of Panadol or Nurofen would fall into this category? They are pretty harmless but I don't want to fall foul of Customs.
Have been onto a few websites but they do not list specific items.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Dubai Arabic language help
Posted: Tue May 20, 2008 12:47 PM UTC
I am beginning to plan a 2 week trip between February and April 2009. I would like to learn a few phrases of the language and need your help.

I am planning on going to Egypt first and then to UAE. My understanding is; in UAE, Gulf Arabic is spoken and in Egypt, Modern Arabic is spoken. Am I correct?

I found 2 sites to learn the Gulf Arabic and found them very user friendly. If I learn the Gulf Arabic would it be understood in Egypt also?

These are the sites I found. If you know of any that are better please let me know.

Thanks for all your help.

Dubai Car Hire with a Driver
Posted: Sun May 18, 2008 08:51 PM UTC
I will be arriving in Dubai in first week of June. As I have to travel around (couple of trips to Sharjah and Abu Dhabi) and I don't possess an international driving license, I was wondering it to take a car on rent with driver. Please let me know if:

1. It is secure to hire a car with driver when traveling with family?
2. What could be daily costs? (car, fuel, driver etc)
3. Which is the best rent-a-car company in town?

Any recommendations will be highly appreciated.

Dubai Toursit / Transit Visa
Posted: Sat May 17, 2008 01:44 PM UTC
I am planning to visit Dubai with family. I have been told by travel agent that Emirates airline provides 14 day transit visa. I would like to know when the day count will start:

1. the day I receive the visa?
2. the day I enter in UAE?

Also, what margin I have to use the visa from the date I receive it? For example, if I receive the visa on June 1st, how late can I go to UAE?

Thanks,

Dubai Thanks you message to friends in Dubai with advices
Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 03:45 PM UTC
Hi everyone, just a recap for my trip to Dubai & would like to say thanks for all the tips & advices. (especially the pictures of Palm Jumeirah from Colin)

I had a total relaxed week with food/drinks & abit of shopping & of course the beach.

People are really friendly especially bar staffs, I enjoy the BarZar in Madinet & was there almost every night! (thanks for your recommendation Jess)

Ashamed that I missed the duty free in the airport which I do not know why.lol & also miss Burj Al Arab & Safari dessert due to they're fully booked!

I've got some pix in my travel page but not too nicely taken though, camera broke down! omg.

Will have to plan another visit & maybe a beer meeting would be nice.

Cheers from SG!

Dubai Looking for a budget hotel
Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 02:07 PM UTC
Hello,

I am traveling to Dubai in first week of June with wife and 3 kids (all under 7 years). I am looking for a budget hotel for 10 nights. I have gone through the reviews and so far Le Méridien in Deira Dubai seems economical. However, it is an apartment and as we are not looking forward for any cooking as such (and I don't see any other benefit of an apartment hotel), I would prefer a hotel room in similar price range.

My range is between AED 300-400. I would like the place in Deira or Bur Dubai, close to malls and other activities.

Dubai Internet Access in Dubai
Posted: Sat May 10, 2008 09:58 PM UTC
Is internet access readily available at residences in Dubai, can we get it like we do here in the states, thru cable companies and other internet providers? I read that it's highly censored but is it readily available and if so is it possible to use web cams to communicate with family at home?

Thanks!
