I need to find a hotel near Park Hyatt Dubai for my boss! Posted: Mon August 24, 2009 10:28 AM UTC
My boss will be flying to Dubai in October for a conference in Park Hyatt Dubai and I have to find a hotel for him nearby. Due to budgetary restrictions of our company he cannot stay in Park Hyatt Dubai so I have to find a hotel for him (and his wife) that is close to park Hyatt and with a price lower than EUR 100/person/night.
I'll check VT forther and the trip advisor as well but I wanted to see if there are anybody around with quick suggestions. Thank you:)

a 15 H layover in Dubai - ramadan Posted: Wed August 19, 2009 07:11 PM UTC
Hi,
I am flying to singapore next week and have a long layover in Dubai. I am given a hotel room but I am not going to stay all the time in the hotel.
If possible I will be going to shopping mall but I am wondering about the business hours during ramadan.
Also are the food court closed till iftar or are they (at least some of them) are open during daytime.
Thx a lot

Visiting Dubai from Amman Posted: Tue August 18, 2009 03:56 PM UTC
I am thinking of extending my trip to Egypt & Jordan with a visit to Dubai from Sept 2-6. It doesn;t seem like there is much to see there but I definitely want to go. I was wondering how many days were recommended? I was thinking of 4-5.
- Can anyone recommend a cheap but decent place to stay during my visit?
- I would also like to visit Abu Dhabi as a day trip. I think it is about 2 hours away so is it a possible idea just to go for the day>?
-I am also considering a visit to Muscat, Oman. I was told that is a 4 hour ride. Is this a good idea to consider a visit, maybe sleeping over one night? Or can I get an early bus there, spend the day and come back to Dubai later afternoon?
All advice and help is greatly appreciated!
Tomorrow we leave for Cairo!

Birds, Bees and Shore Leave Posted: Mon June 15, 2009 01:42 AM UTC
My boyfriend, who will be working in the Middle East next year, has invited me out from Australia to join him for a week of leave in DUBAI the middle of 2010. We plan to stay in a hotel, and, not having seen each other for 3 and a half months, 'reacquaint' ourselves.
As common law marriage and extramarital sex are not recognised in the UAE, is carrying on this kind of intimate relationship in the privacy of our own hotel room legally permitted? Do we face any legal repercussions if we are known to be staying together?
Cheers!

Any advice on visiting Dubai during the Ramadan ? Posted: Mon June 8, 2009 06:51 PM UTC
In late August, we were thinking of visiting Dubai, but we are a little confused, as our visit fits in the Ramadan. Dubai is a stopover, so we thought it might be a good chance to see the city. We also know that temperatures are high in August – though that does not bother us much. We live in Greece and our summers are really hot with temperatures reaching 40-44 C.
We are wondering , if safari tours will be available during the Ramadan and if we can swim at private or public beaches, visit the Wild Wadi etc.
Is it a could choice, to stay at Burr Dubai (as it seems to be somewhere in the middle) to go sightseeing and visiting Jumeirah beaches ? We will use the bus and taxi for our transportations.
We plan to visit some places at the mornings and evenings and spent some time in a gym and relax at the afternoon to avoid the heat.
Are all gyms unisex ? Are women acceptable, at the free weights room ?
We understand Dubai is a Muslim country, and have to respect their ways, especially during the Ramadan, but some things that we have read, seem to be excessive for tourists - like a couple holding each others hands being unacceptable(as this is something that happens naturally to most couples around the world when they walk side by side)
Your advices will be very helpful.

getting to dubai mall and other questions Posted: Thu June 4, 2009 03:40 PM UTC
Reading from a guidebook I should take airport bus 401 from the airport terminal 2 to deira bus station. May I know from there what bus should I take to get The Dubai mall and how much would it costs?
IS there any other better way to get there?
Some other quesions...
I am going in June and have 23 hours to spend in Dubai. I also know that it will be very hot in June so I plan to cool down at the new and giant dubai mall(I would also like to see the giant aquaiurm) before going to the souq area what time would be a good time when it is less hot to walk the spice souq, gold souq and creek area etc? 5 pm onwards or wait till near sunset. BTW what time does the sunset? What time does the area operate till?
Is it for me then to catch bus back to the airport from this old Dubai area? What time do buses operate till?
thanks for all suggestions and all tips in my previous posts and this as well. Much appreciated.

Dubai in 23 hrs...what to do? Posted: Wed June 3, 2009 05:33 PM UTC
I will be landing in dubai from london in mid June at about 8.40 am and leaving the next day at 7.40 am.
Any suggestions on what I could do there in this short time?
IS there a certain area in Dubai where I can ask the taxi driver to go to where I can visit shopping malls, sougs or at least some places of interest which are all quite close by within walking distance given that I don't have that much time.
Are there cheap city tours available form the airport for say half a day?
thanks

Te Mahaba Lounge at Dubai International Airport Posted: Fri May 29, 2009 06:32 AM UTC
I will be spending 8 hours at Dubai Airport waiting for my connecting flight to Cape Town. My travel agent told me that the Mahaba Lounge is very comfortable and that I will be able to relax there, even sleep a little. Is this true? Or should I rather book myself into an airport hotel for the night? I will spend between 12pm and 8am at the airport.

Some Dubai questions Posted: Thu May 28, 2009 12:14 PM UTC
I would like to return to Dubai:
- what budget things are there to do (under $20)
- is there bus service to the other emirates
- when I was there before I went to the Heritage Village and ladies were making traditional food items. One was like a crepe with cream cheese spread on the top. The other was like a donut. Does any one know what they are called and have a recipe. I was told that families often make them but they are seldom seen in a restaurant.
Thanks,

I happened to hear about "The Walk" in JBR area. I would like to drop by there and look around when I visit Dubai in June. Where exactly is "The Walk" located? Can anybody tell me a landmark nearby the area? Is it near from Mall of Emirates? Also, is it near from Jumeirah Mosque?
Thank you in advance.

2. Contemplating either The Lost Chambers, Atlantis OR Dubai Acquarium, Dubai Mall. Which is better and what is the difference actually?
(Jess, Colin & Amir, I know I can count on you for good tips!)

Photographer visiting Dubai Posted: Sat May 9, 2009 02:16 PM UTC
Greetings,
I'm a New York based travel/architectural photographer that is planning a future visit to Dubai. Naturally part of my focus will be on the incredible architecture. But I also want to show a bit of a different side from all the shopping malls and glitz/glam.
I'm interested in getting a portrait of local life off the beaten path in some neighborhoods that might not have been going through massive construction/urban renewal. Any suggestions?
And how do locals spend their leisure time, beach, horse races, local customs/activities, parks, etc. Also, is there a time of year that's better to visit from a weather perspective, heat, sand, rain, etc? Thanks so much for any suggestions.
Best,
Douglas

I only know Da Shi Dai serves dim sum, but they have only ala carte for now. The all-you-can-eat is temporary stopped and resuming in June.
Pls let me know if you have any suggestions.
