Are taxis, in Dubai airport, ready to board four adults or in case we do not find a "van", we'll be obliged to hire two cabs ?
Thanks for your replies

Dubai Dubai friends, i need your help
Posted: Thu October 29, 2009 02:01 PM UTC
Hello, my pblm is the following.
Four of us (senior people) will arrive on a friday evening 11.35 pm in Dubai with Emirates. We shall continue our trip to Sydney on following sunday morning.
My idea was : we take a cab to Deira area to reach our hotel. ON sunday morning, in order to avoid trafic jams, we take a car back to the airport.
BUT i have read somewhere that, in the metro, passengers with suitcases are not authorized to travel. Is it true ?
If we decide to leave luggage at Terminal 3 and carry on the same project (taxi one way + metro - without suitcase) can we leave our luggage in a luggage storage in Terminal 3? What would you do yourself in my place ?
Thanks for your help.

Dubai Recap travel directions to the airlines' offices in Dubai and estimated travel costs
Posted: Sat October 24, 2009 11:22 PM UTC
Please advise whether the following travel directions to these airlines' offices in Dubai are most convenient, correct and the estimated travel costs:-

Travel to Al Rashidiya Dubai Metro Station from Sharjah Airport by Airport Taxi 80 Dirhams

Travel to Union Square Dubai Metro Station by Al Rigga Road, board taxis to Kam Air office at Deira Post Office Building (is Union Square Dubai Metro Station facing this building?) and Kish Air office (near Beniyas Square, by Fish Roundablout, next to Claridge Hotel, along Omarebue Khatab St, Mahi Square). Please advise estimated costs.

Travel by taxi back to Union Square Dubai Metro Station to travel to Khalid Bin Al Waleed Dubai Metro Station, visit TAAG Angola Airlines at Sharaf Travel in Sharaf Building opposite Burjuman Centre.

Travel from Sharaf Building by taxi to Al Rais Travel in Al Mankhool Street, Bur Dubai. Is 10 Dirhams the estimated fare?

Travel by taxi from Al Rais Travel to Shaheen Air at Al Makhtoom Street (near Deira Clock Tower. Is Deira Clock Tower facing Al Rigga Dubai Metro Station?). Please advise the estimated fare.

Can i walk to Dnata Airline Center from Deira Clock Tower?

From Deira Clock Tower, travel by taxi to Dubai International Airport Terminal 2 to visit Somon Air and check-in for Mihin Lanka flight to Colombo. 10 Dirhams.

Looking forward to your advice.

Dubai Toilets, Hawker Stalls, Food and Places in UAE

Is there any toilet at souks in Deira?

Are there street hawker stalls near airlines' offices in Deira like Kish Air, Kam Air?

Are all Emirati food in the UAE comprised of meat? Are there vegetarian ones?

Where is Hamarain Centre and its exact location in Deira? Is it near any Dubai Metro Station I can't find my previous thread's answers after they were deleted in error by VT.

Can i see Deira Clock Tower from Deira City Centre Dubai Metro Station?

Dubai Hotel suitably close to airport or cruise ship terminal.
Posted: Fri October 16, 2009 01:01 PM UTC
We'll be arriving in Dubai by air late at night - staying a day and a half - then getting on a cruise ship. I'd be grateful for any suggestions for suitably located hotels. We're more interested in seeing old markets rather than new shopping malls. Thanks.

Dubai Marhaba Services - Airport Exit Speed?
Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 11:48 PM UTC
Hi everyone.

I'll be traveling from NYC-JFK on Emirates to Asia, with a layover in Dubai. On my return trip home from Asia, I have arranged to do a 24 hour layover in Dubai to try and take in the city for a first visit.

I've been reading a lot of conflicting stories about transit passengers and / or getting in & out of Dubai International Airport. Some people mention that it's always a breeze and never have an issue, other say that customs can take up to 2 hours at times. Some people have mentioned that Marhaba Services seem to be the best way to get in & out quickly. Time of flight arrivals seem to also be another factor.

Well, my flight arrives in Dubai from Asia at about 5 am on a Thursday morning.
My flight back to JFK leaves the following morning (Friday) at 2 am.

So what I'm trying to do is get through the terminal & customs ASAP (I guess I will also have to get a Visa), drop my bags somewhere (either in the airport, or maybe with a concierge at a hotel in the city), and head for breakfast at some local establishment.

Is it possible that there are also pre-paid services (such as Marhaba) that offer you to get your Visa expedited, either by putting you in some kind of fast track line, or doing the paperwork before you arrive?

Could anyone help us out with the best way to maximize our time in this (from what we've heard) great place, and minimize our time in airport & customs queues?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Dubai up to date full bus map / route?
Posted: Mon September 28, 2009 11:33 AM UTC
Hi all,

Will have another 24hr stopover in October. Looking forward to ride on the new Metro but realized that it will only operational at 2pm on Friday!!. Hence I plan to take a bus from airport to downtown deira or bur dubai in the morning and catch the metro in the afternoon. I wonder if anyone know where can I download a full bus route map like the one available before in the rta website - dubai (downtown and jumeirah)area map with all bus service route on it. I notice that the map in the website is now per route not for the whole service, which is great but not that useful for orientation and forward planning. I still got the old map (with no terminal 3 in existence yet!) which might be of use but the existence of the latest up to date map will be more than helpful!!

Thanks.

Dubai Bonnington Towers, Jumeriah Lake Towers
Posted: Tue September 15, 2009 01:52 PM UTC
Hi Guys,

I've booked for me and 5 others (3 couples)to go to Bonnington Towers 27th Dec to 3rd Jan.
How much would a taxi for us to the hotel from the airport expect to cost or should the hotel provide this?

Also, does anyone have any advice on the Jumeirah Lakes Tower area?

I am getting mixed reviews on what the weather would be like at this time of year too.

We are all new to visiting to Dubai so any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Dubai Shopping in Dubai Airport
Posted: Tue September 1, 2009 01:22 PM UTC
Hi
My friend and I are travelling to South Africa via Dubai on an emirates flight from UK. We have a 9 hour stop over in Dubai from around 2300 - 0800 hrs. Will the airport shops be open and will we be able to have an alcoholic drink? ALso we would love to purchase a replica designer bag each. Can anyone recommend a shop. We would be wary of leaving the airport at night as we are 2 females who dont know the area surrounding the airport and probably wont have enough time to leave the airport anyway. Thank for any information.

Dubai Stopover in Dubai
Posted: Sat August 29, 2009 08:11 AM UTC
My husband and I are flying to Europe via Dubai and thought we would have a short stopover in Dubai to break up the trip, as it is a long flight from Austalia. We are arriving in Dubai on 20 March and thought we would stay for 2 nights. As it will only be a short stopover, we are looking for a budget hotel that it well located for the sights and also suggestions on what to see in Dubai for 2 days.

Dubai Dubai Stop Over On Arrival
Posted: Thu August 27, 2009 08:54 AM UTC
Hi,
I will be having a stop over from 22/9 to 23/9 (still Ramadan, Eid Holidays???). Emirates.com is mentioning on their website that they offer special hotel rates on their visa on arrival counter. Has anyone made any experience with the rates and hotels they are offering, or will it be similar to expedia.com, lastminute.com, etc. rates anyway. Looking on the Sept. 2009 hotels of Emirates website, the rates are quite high anyway. Any recommendations on where to book?
