Hi,

I am flying into the Adnan Menderes Airport and want to take a bus to Selcuk. My flight arrives around 24:00.

1) What is the safe and cheap way to go from the airport to the bus station?
2) Are there buses which go from the Izmir bus station to the Selcuk bus station at around 1:00? Is this safe so early in the morning?

We are taking a cruise and will be arriving to Izmir at 9:00. We have only until 3:00 pm, and we would love to get to see the house of the Virgin Mary as well as the ancient city of Ephesus. We want to contact a guide to take us from Izmir to Ephesus and back. We are 5 people and would prefer a Spanish-speaking guide if possible.

I've been looking online for sites that offer this service, with no luck.

In July I will be coming from Ankara to Izmir just for a few hours and with final destination to Bodrum. I want to visit Bergama and have a dinner in Izmir. (this is the plan at the moment)
Is there a left luggage service at the Izmir bus station? Do you know until what time in the evening it is open?
If not at the bus station, what are my options to leave my luggage and take a bus to Bergama?

Is the özdilek store (at the Crowne Plaza) open on Sundays? If so, what are the hours? I will be staying in Izmir (hotel Karaca in centrum) - what would be the best way to get out to the store? Is a bus / dalmus possible? What would a taxi cost?

Dear all,

Are there any night bus services from Izmir to Fethiye? How frequent are they?
Is there a ferry service between the them? I coming to Izmir and hire a car for few days and visit pergamum,sart,pamukkale,efes and then return the car in izmir and go down to Fethiye and spend couple of days there at the beach. Any suggestions and information would be deeply appreciated.

Hi my family and I will visit Xanthi in Greece for CARNIVAL in March 2008. we then want to travel by CAR to Izmir, we are told we cannot hire a car in one country and drive it to the other, so my question is; does anyone know of a car hire company near the Turkish town of Kaşan, I was thinking we could get Taxi from Xanthi to Kaşan then hire a car and drive to Izmir. my problem is that we need to drop the car at Izmir as we fly back to UK from Adnan Menderes on the 17th March. Any help on travel between Xanthi and Izmir would be useful. We do not want to go by bus !

I am flying into Izmir and I need to get to Assos or Ayvacik. I know there is a bus that runs to Canakkale and I can get off in Ayvacik. I have no idea how to get from the airport to where the buses are. Any help would be appreciated. I've searched the web and cannot find any bus schedules nor where the bus terminal is.

i know turkey is going through a quite rough election period, and with all political tension that prevails, is it still a good idea to daytrip from Chios island (Greece) to Izmir or maybe should be avoided? I've heard about increased terrorist action, ie explosions in market etc...

Hello!! Does anyone out there know how and what would be the best way to get to Thessalonikki from Izmir. I'm pretty sure my best option is be ferry/boat seeing as how planes and trains are a little out of the question, but I'm not sure exactly from where I would start and would particular places I would have to hit in order to get to Thessalonikki!!

Please forgive me if this has been asked before but as a new member I have a lot to learn. I was thinking of eventually taking a Carnival Cruise to the Mediterranean and one of the options is to stop at Izmir and Istanbul, Turkey. Are these safe areas for American Tourists?

My wife and i will be coming into Turkey from Samos (Greece), believe the best port to come into is Kusadasi. We will stay in Kusadasi for a day then go to Pamukkale, then to Izmir and then to Istanbul for 2 days. Total trip will be 5 days. Any recommendations as to the best and cheapest way of travelling to all these places? Are there any other good sites we can visit along our way? If there are we can come to Turkey a day early increasing out trip to 6 days. We will be in Turkey from May 31-June 5 but we can arrive to Turkey on the May 30th as well. Any recommendations about transportation to all these cities will be extremely helpful and much appreciated. Thanks a lot

Hello fellow travelers, I would like to know what is the most economical way to exchange US dollars to euro's. Is it best to exchange at the US airports or is it best to exchange in Turkey namely Istanbul?
At what bank or exchange medium?

Credit cards charge 3% above exchange rate, that is not a very good option.
Debit cards charge a fee at every ATM due to foreign transactions, plus the exchange rate.
Travelers checks are not economical, due to their cost and exchange rate.

My first time to Turkey was in Istanbul on a business trip a long time ago. I always wanted to go back and explore it further from as a tourist and get to know with local people. So finally here I am! Although not the best time of the year, at the peak of the tourist season, we’ll do all possible to stay off the main touristy and busy areas.

We are spending most of our time in the around Efes, one day in Izmir and three days in Istanbul. We like archeology, nature, the beautiful sea and strolling around little villages, where we can enjoy a nice meal cooked not for the numerous tourists but mainly for locals and any visitors (tourists) who stop by… So if you know such place around Efes area, please let me know.

Few questions for Izmir forum:

Can someone recommend a nice restaurant with local or Turkish cuisine in Izmir city?

Is it easy to find a taxi at Izmir airport to go to Kusadasi region or it’s better to have booked one in advance? We may arrive really late at night but that depends on the connecting flight…

Is the taxi price from Izmir airport to Kusadasi about $50 and do we have to pay in $ or normally in the recently launched Yeni Turkish lira?

A couple of questions about Izmir. I am deciding between Izmir and Thessalonkik in early November. Any suggestions? Also what is a good hotel near Cumhuriyet? Is the Crown Plaza Hotel far from the main square? What are your suggestions on where to stay?
Are there good places to tour outside Izmir and are there good day trips from Izmir?

Hi, I am moving to Izmir in a couple of months and I am so excited! I have heard that the majority of the vehicles are small, compact cars. I have a newer Tacoma truck that I want to ship to Turkey. Can anyone tell me if this is a bad idea or not? Will my truck get all wrecked up, or should I purchase a compact car if I can? I appreciate any help, or tips anyone can give me!! Thank you!

Hello. I was hoping someone could help me with directions for public transportation from the otogar in Izmir to Konak, specifically, to near the Best Western Konak at Mithatpasa Cad No: 128, Konak. Iam planning to travel to Turkey and cannot decide between Izmir and Antalya.
I am looking for a nice beach vacation, where I can enjoy the beach, food, drinks, and local attractions. In Izmir, and would be staying at hotel Erythrai. Pictures look nice, but I am not sure about the beaches. Are the nice anc clean given that it is a bif port and a big city? Is it possible to swim? What kind of weather should I expect during the last week of may?
