I'm thinking of staying in Puerto del Carmen over the Christmas period, but a friend has heard that the town is not what is was a few years ago and thinks it will be very quiet at night, with not many people out and a lot of places closed. We are 4 middle aged guys who aren't clubbers but like to travel between good and busy pubs and bars.
I visited there 13 years ago in 96 and quite liked it then, so can anyone tell me if it has changed a lot.
Coming to costa Teguise in Jan. My partner cannot eat lactose (milk products) or gluten, but would be happy with seafood, or a decent steak and chips - though would really prefer to try local food if not cooked with butter/milk/wheat ...and to complicate things further i am vegetarian!
We're staying self catering, but would like to have a few meals out.. any recomendations greatefully received!!
cheers
Car Hire Posted: Thu October 29, 2009 04:57 PM UTC
Hi, Two senior citizens visiting for one week in Teguise in December. Can't be bothered to Google. Will I be able to hire a car for three days when I get there ? Will the company deliver car to my hotel ( Barcelo Lanzarote ). Would be great if someone could list one or two places to visit by car.
Traveling in 1 1/2 weeks, will be there 3 days. Traveling solo. Am 44 yr young gal wanting to have fun in the sun/beach, drink and shop. Don't want to spend a fortune! Was thinking of Las Palmas? Day trip to Tenerife? Want to be in a central location where getting around is not difficult.
Any suggestions?
Can anyone give me an idea of how much a taxi from the airport to Flora apartments (near the old town) in puerto del carmen should cost (arriving December 09).

We are planning to visit the Canary Islands form December 10th till December 18th. I have been reading a lot about the islands and what there is to see and do. My problem is that it is as though I can be a tourist for at least three months and not see everything. Should I stay on Teneriefe for the whole time or should I visit La Gomera and Gran canary Island.
BTW My wife and I are slightly handicapped and do not participate in sports.
As vacation comes closer, more questions arose. We are renting car for the vacation. Will stay in aparts close to Playa Bastian (and to aparts with same name). The hotel definitively has no own parking so we will have to find a place for our car somewhere. What is situation with finding parking space there? Google earth shows one parking close to the beach (suspiciously empty) and no parkings along roads!
Here will be our location (on Calle de la Rosa): http://maps.google.de/?ie=UTF8&ll=28.995182,-13.495052&spn=0.006569,0.009677&t=h&z=17
Please, please tell me that I will not need to circle for an hour every day looking for a parking lot!!! I am even ready to rent parking space if it would make my life easier...
Tours by Taxi Posted: Tue August 25, 2009 03:33 PM UTC
We're in Las Palmas for one day, from a cruise ship. I would like to go to Teror, but can't seem to find bus schedules. I've looked at the transportation website. So, I was thinking of taking a guided tour perhaps with a taxi. Or, are there tour operators in Las Palmas that I could reserve with? I just can't seem to find any information about tours (except for the big tour companies that want 30-40 people).
Can anyone recommend a driver/guide to pick us up at the Santa Cruz port? Four of us would like to see some of the main highlights near this area. We would like to tour for about 4 hours. We will be arriving on a cruise in November.
Sorry to drive everyone crazy on this board, but I am getting nervous! We are arriving at LPA at 01.40am.Will we be able to get a regular taxi at that time, and if so what would be the price to transfer to Las Palmas city, or do we need to book a private transfer?
I am planning my trip to Lanzarote in October. Have read almost everything on VT already and cant wait. Still have a few questions.
1. I have booked a studio in Molino de Guatiza Aparthotel because of very good price and location. Reviews in web are very limited and very old. Would be happy if anyone would tell me at least something about them, good or bad. The apartments are located very close to Playa Bastian Apts which have a lot of good reviews here, but they are not available for booking any more. If Molino de Guatiza is very bad, it is still not late to re-book for anything else.
2. I love fish and shrimps. On Tenerife and Gran Canaria we were living in apartments with kitchen and buying seefood in Mercadona. Is there any supermarket in Costa Tequise with good seafood choice? If not, where is the closest? Where to buy fresh fish?
3. A few years ago I have read that Costa Teguise is quite place with good atmosphere and had an impression that it has a soul and not pure touristic (something like Los Gigantes or Puerto Cruz on Tenerife). Now it sounds like a big tourist resort. Was I wrong and it is pure touristic?
We are visiting Tenerife for 2 weeks starting on August 12. Our base will be Los Cristianos. Can anyone please recommend some beaches where we can drive to for picnics? We are looking for remote beaches and it doesn't matter how far away they are from Los Cristianos. We are particularly interested in beaches with large waves.
Hi, can someone advise whether it is best to pre-book a taxi or whether we can get public transport from the airport to Hotel Oliva in Corrralejo? arriving on Wednesday at 9pm
We are a couple aged 50,60 and would like to take a short break in Gran Canaria in December. Not into partying or beaches, more scenery and history.Would like to ask whether it would be better to stay in Las Palmas (the city) and take day trips out to different parts of the island or whether it would be better to move from place to place. How easy would it be to get accomodation- I mean is booking ahead essential or can we wing it?
Also is the best way to go to hire a car or can one make do with public transport?
Hi, me and friend are going to corralejo soon and i was wondering whats the nightlife like , and will there be other teens there ?
me and my friend are both 17, enjoy spending late nights out and having a good time. Are the bars and clubs livley and will there be lots of people there around our age?
hi i was thinking about taking a boat trip to La Graciosa one day from lanzarote i read that when you arrive there are 4x4 that take you around the island.i have two children aged 2and8 will the drivers drop us at a nice beach and then pick us back up after a few hours or do we have to stay with the driver look forward to your reply thank you.

I had never heard of the Canary Islands before but now I am planning to spend my honeymoon there. Me and my fiance are getting married in October and will be going on our honeymoon in December during the Christmas holidays. And as she wants to go to a beach, I came to know that The Canaries will be the best during that time of the year in Europe.
Now here are my questions:
1) Which of the islands have the best beaches?
2) Can I hop from island to island, and if so, then how?
3) All the islands have atleast one airport. But do international flights go to all of them or only to some of them?
4) What will be a realistic budget for a honeymoon in the Canaries for 5 days???
Any inputs will be of great help as I dont know anything about these islands.
I'm travelling to Playa d Ingles in a few weeks and would like to be recommended a good local restaurant for evening meal that's not too expensive and has local dishes.
I am a single traveler on a tight budget. Can anyone advise me on the cheapest way to get from the south airport to Playa de las Americas or Costa adeje. For example, is there a public bus service from airport to bus station in Playa de las americas or some kind of shuttle bus? How much would a taxi cost? I will have one suitcase and hand luggage and it wiil be midday when I arrive.
Thank you in advance. Graham
Has anyone heard about Gran Bahia del Deque resort in Tenerife ? How is it ? How is the location ? If yoy know any other resorts in the same standard please recommend .
We are traveling to Canary Island in July and we are looking for a child friendly resort with children's activities and to be close to the other island activities , shops & restaurants .
Hello, fellow VT-ers,
One of my daughters will study a semester at the ULPGC (Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria) in Spanish language and literature (in Erasmus students exchange with Pau University).
I am wondering if flat or house sharing is a current practice in Las Palmas and asking where (websites, agents, virtual or real notice boards. . . ) she should begin her search for an accommodation; no luxury (!!), just what fits to average students.
Thanks for your information, Hermann.
