Jiddah general queries
Posted: Mon February 19, 2007 03:41 AM UTC
Hi,
I have two questions , if anybody can help me. I am located at Rabigh, near jeddah.I want to bring my family over here, but it seems, company arrangements will take pretty long time.

1.Does anyone know of any estate agents, or any multinational compounds in Rabigh?

2.I saw a number of car rental agencies. What is the procedure to rent a car in KSA ? Is it like, walk in with your ID/Iqama,Driving License , pay the charge and walkout ? Or some deposits, company letter etc are required ?

Thank you in Advance

I am planning to visit Jiddah this year for OMRAH.

My Mother will join me she will come from Asia and I will be travelling from Europe to Jiddah.

I would like to meet her in Jiddah itself.

is it possible that she enteres Jiddah without me?
I heard that a woman can not enter Saudia Arabia without a male family member.

thanks a lot for your quick responses.

Jiddah Advice needed on Jiddah short stay
Posted: Thu December 14, 2006 04:27 PM UTC
Assalamualaikum/Hello,

I'm expecting to move to Jiddah around March '07. I may only be around for about 6 months, its more of a 'transit' before I take up my job in Dubai. As there are a few things that has yet been finalised in Dubai, my future employer requires me to be stationed in Jiddah first to familiarise with the operations. My questions are:

1) I understand that short-term rentals are available but how is the process (deposits, advance rent, etc.)? I'm married but during the stay in Jiddah will be alone as family will only join in Dubai.

2) How are 'compounds' & 'villas' different to apartments?

3) How much will it cost to stay in hotels?

Thanks in advance.

Jiddah Driving License Conversion - HELP!
Posted: Wed December 6, 2006 04:26 AM UTC
Hi All

I am from Yanbu and been here for three months. I need help to convert my Singapore driving license ASAP. I just got my family housing unit and its quite a distance from my workplace and the return taxi fares are killing me.The process here in Yanbu is very tedious and requires a 30 mins taxi journey where I need to make many many trips there to attend lessons , practice etc....I have used up almost all my leave for this and some other documentation process requirements.

I was informed that one Singapore staff there in Jeddah had managed to do a direct license conversion. I profusely seek your kind assistance to help me.I can manage to squeeze another day off on Sunday and fly over to Jeddah to process the license conversion. I have prepared the followings docs:

1.Sgp licence authorized arabic translation
2.Letter from my employer (syahadah taarif)
3.Copy of my iqama
4.5 pictures
5.Copy of my staff ID which indicates my blood type( hv done done any medical specific for the licence process though)

I need help where possibly if one can send or knows anyone can send me to the traffic office and guide me thru the process. I dont speak arabic and need help as well.

Really need help on this. Looking forward to your forum replies, please.

Jiddah New to Jeddah
Posted: Thu November 16, 2006 08:20 AM UTC
Hello all ,

I came recently to jeddah for work. I've been here for a month and every thing regarding work , accomidation and transport is settled. but still there is one problem : I don't know anyone here ! I used to hang out with alot of people from different countries back in Jordan to play pool , have a drink or go dance some where, talk about politics and go to film scrrenings and art galas , but I'm beginning to think that non of this exists here ! Am I right ? please don't tell me so !

Another thing : is it impossible to meet new girls in Jeddah ?? because this whole all-male community things is just not working for me. Bear in mind that I am 24 years old which prevents me from do any so-called "Family Activity".

Thanks,

My wife and I are coming to Jeddah in October from UAE. We were in Al Khobar from 2000 to 2002 (Eurovillage). We need compound accommodation (pool, gym) on the south side of Jeddah as I will be working at Shuaibah, but also if possible near to expat schools as my wife is a primary teacher. Any suggestions welcome! Also, any decent maps around? Thanks in anticipation.

Jiddah Public transportation from North district s
Posted: Sun July 30, 2006 11:23 AM UTC
How is the public transportation from North districts (i.e. Sary St, prince Abdullah St or Medina Rd) to the south (Water tower). On rush hour, can I make it in less than 45 minutes? Also, what are the best routes if you drive?

I read from old posts that driving is a good adventure, is it true for all parts of the city or mostly on small streets?
