Posted: Mon January 26, 2009 07:15 AM UTC
Anyone interested in joining us for a crossing of part of the Empty Quarter (Rub' Al Khali)desert. My friend and I are planing for an expedition to various sites there including the Wabar Impact site, a strange place of black glass and white rocks where a huge meteorite impact explosion took place probably in the mid 19th century …(quite recent in geological terms)...

Jiddah Official city website in English
Posted: Thu November 29, 2007 07:04 PM UTC
Strange but Jeddah city official site http://www.jeddah.gov.sa/ is only in Arabic. For such a cosmopolitan city it's really strange - contrary to Riyadh which have English version. Maybe I missed something and there is English site with comprehensive information about Jeddah?

Thank you,

Jiddah Cheap hotels (hostels) in Jeddah
Posted: Wed November 28, 2007 12:32 AM UTC
Assalam alaykum, folks!

Can you please share your knowledge about cheap hotels/hostels (I mean about 50 USD per person or less) in Jeddah proper or vicinity? If there are such, have they web address?

Just in case when opportunity some day will arise to visit the Kingdom, Jeddah is very first in my list of must-seens.

Many thanks for any suggestions and have a nice day!

Jiddah Can anyone recommend a cheap but nice hotel in Jeddah?
Posted: Sat November 10, 2007 06:43 AM UTC
Greetings:
In the near future, my wife and I will be flying to Jeddah to buy some much needed groceries. We were flying to Riyadh but we have been told that flying on Saudi Airlines to Jeddah is more reliable than flying on the new airline Nas to Riyadh.
We live in Saudi Arabia but in the Eastern Province and we have never visited or stayed in Jeddah. We are complete newbies to Jeddah therefore can anyone recommend a cheap but nice hotel in Jeddah? We are just looking for a room with a bed and a bathroom. Every city usually has at least one cheap, well managed and clean hotel and we would like to stay in a hotel like that. Any advice greatly appreciated.
That’s it for now and I look forward to your postings.

Jiddah Tradition for the journey of a newborn
Posted: Sun June 17, 2007 09:36 AM UTC
My good friend is Arabic and is due in September. It is a girl. I was wondering what would the appropriate gift be that follows the Arabic tradition for her and the new baby. I asked her and she did tell me about killing the sheep, shaving the head, and the naming celebration. Is there anything else. I want to do something that will mean a lot to her and her family. Her husband is arabic but she is an international child. Her Mother is "I think" is caucasian but her father I know is Arabic. Also, what are some things not to do that would be seen as bad taste. Traditional things that Americans or westerns do that would be offensive to her arabic traditions so that I do not do them.
