Doha Visa for visiting Doha for a few hours?
Posted: Thu July 12, 2007 07:22 PM UTC
I have a 5 1/2 hour layover in Doha next week and I would like to take a taxi to Souq Waqif and maybe the corniche to see what the city is like. Am I correct that I can just purchase a visa at the airport in Doha when I arrive? If so, how much does it cost?

Posted: Thu July 12, 2007 12:28 PM UTC
I'm flying from Paris to Kuala Lumpur and i will be having a 8 hrs transit in Doha.
May I know if they have a tourism information centre in the airport?
How long does it take to go on taxi to the Central post office from the airport?
Is the national museum within walking distance from the airport?
How long do i need to wait to get a visa at the airport?
Is it convenient and safe to wander around alone without speaking any arabic?
Thank you very much in advance.

Doha Doha-Bahrain day trip (not flying)
Posted: Mon June 25, 2007 03:17 PM UTC
We will be in Doha for 5 days. We are thinking of doing a day trip to Bahrain, but do not really want to go by plane. Is there a boat or ferry that goes? Ideally, we would do the trip in one day?

Also, if this possible, what are the times/costs for 2 adults?

Regards

Doha How late is Souq Waqif open on Sunday nights? Other places to eat?
Posted: Sun June 24, 2007 03:06 AM UTC
I arrive in Doha at 7 pm on a Sunday and my next flight does not leave until 12:30 am. I want to go into the city for a good (but inexpensive) middle eastern meal, and someone recommended Souq Waqif. I'm worried it won't be open that late though. We probably won't get there until 8:00 or 8:30. Will it still be open? If not, where else can I go to eat? I don't want to stay in the airport the whole time. Thanks.

Doha layover in Doha
Posted: Thu May 24, 2007 09:11 AM UTC
I have a layover from 5am to 1pm. Does the city (souks, corniche) open fairly early in the morning? I was hoping to get out of the airport for a few hours, but if it's anything like Korea, most places don't open that early. If the city doesn't really come to life until 10am then maybe I am better off staying at the airport. Thanks for the advice.

Doha Brit new to Doha needs the lowdown on life out here
Posted: Fri May 18, 2007 07:59 AM UTC
Hi all

Just moved out to Doha and am still trying to get my bearings - and am finding it a tad difficult to get info on the following

1. where can i get a list of all the bus routes in the city and bus timetables?

2. I'm looking for the cheapest way to call London and other European cities - are there any pre-paid calling cards I can purchase, or are there phone shops I can go to??

3. being new to the city I'm looking to make new friends - any ex-pat watering holes that are worth a visit? clubs that are worth joining?

4. I need to find a gym (road running in this heat is a definate no-no) - reasonably priced - any recommendations?

5. Are there any regular VT'ers based in Doha that would be up for organising a VT meeting in town - have noticed this is done frequently in Dubai and other locations?

6. Evenings and weekends - ex-pat listings guide anywhere or recommendations regarding where to go and when?

Thanks loads

Doha 5 1/2 hours in Doha
Posted: Tue April 10, 2007 03:14 AM UTC
I have a 5 1/2 hour layover in Doha on my way to India in late July because my flight arrives at 7:00 pm and my next flight does not leave until 12:30 am. Is that enough time for me to get a quick tour of the city in a taxi or something like that? Even just going somewhere for a good authentic Qatari meal before I continue my journey would be great. Do I need a visa if I leave the airport like that? If this is all possible, can someone recommend something for me to do or see or someplace for me to eat? Thanks.

Doha Any transit visa reqd if changing planes at Doha.
Posted: Thu March 1, 2007 10:06 PM UTC
Hi,

We are thinking about going with Qatar Airlines for our travel from US to India. For Indian passport holders is there any transit visa required for
changing planes at Doha ?

Also, in case of flight delays/cancellations, if we need to stay overnight
at Doha, are short term visa's issued at the airport. (I read that 2-week visitor visas can be obtained at the airport for certain nationalities...but that list does not have India on it).

Thanks.

Doha Should I go to Doha for 2 years with a 10 month old baby girl?
Posted: Thu February 22, 2007 01:17 PM UTC
My husband has an opportunity to work in Doha for 2 years starting this summer and I'm struggling with whether it is a place that is appropriate to bring a 10 month old girl.

Can you give me a little insight on the life in Doha and how you forsee daily
life for a 37 year old asian american who has lived only in NYC and Washington
DC and accustomed to suburbia with a 10 month old baby girl? My husband works
for the State dept. so we would have embassy housing and hopefully military base
privileges. But outside of that, I'm not sure what to expect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Doha Transit Tour of Doha

I'll be having a 6-hour transit period in Doha, arriving at 5pm. Is it possible to make a short tour given the time of my arrival? Any visa requirements? What is the price like for a short city tour? What is there to see? Is there also any safe place where I can place my laptop before going on the tour?
