How far is Santa Theresa Beach Resort from casino, The Cornish park on the beach from casino, Hamra street, the Balloon ride. also i am on a tight budget so what is the safest and what is the cheapest way of getting around. like how much is a cab ride from casino to Santa Teresa? thank you!!

Two Days in Beirut Posted: Fri April 24, 2009 08:16 AM UTC
My son is going to Beirut, but he will have only two days there, a Sunday and Monday. I've looked at the VT pages about Beirut, however most of them have been written some years ago, so I hope to get some more recent information here in the forum from fellow VTers.
What's the best way to get around in the city? Taxis?
Is it true that US dollars are the accepted currency, also at the airport for the visa?
He'll be there in mid May, a few weeks before the elections. What will the situation be like? Will security be extra tight?
Thank you for any help.

Nejmeh square closed? Posted: Tue March 17, 2009 08:09 AM UTC
Hello,
I have been to Lebanon recently and it seems all the streets leading to Nejmeh square in Beirut are closed (all entrances blocked and guarded by soldiers who permit only some people inside and did not permit me). I wonder what are the reasons for this and is the square always closed?

Looking for a room! Posted: Mon February 9, 2009 05:28 PM UTC
Hi there,
I'm a 22-year old Dutch student about to leave for Beirut to do my MA thesis research there. I'm also desperately looking for a place to stay while I'm there.
I'm looking for a room in Hamra for March, April and May 2009 preferably in a student house or an apartment shared with students. My budget is approximately E300,-/USD400,- a month.
If you know a nice and affordable place to stay for the period mentioned above or have some advise on where to look for it or whom to contact please let me know (me_noortje@hotmail.com).
Thanks!

HI-Questions about saida, prices and taxis-leaving wednesday Posted: Sun February 8, 2009 05:59 PM UTC
Hi.
I am leaving for Beirut on wednesday. I am coming to get married...yipeeee.
We will be staying some time in Saida...Is there ANYTHING to do there? I was told by a friend that there is NOTHING there to do.
How much is a taxi from Saida to Beirut? Does anyone know a reliable and inexpensive taxi service? Would it be better to rent a car? His family is in Beirut and we will have to travel back and forth to visit.
How much do daily things cost, like bread and simple food and necessary items to bring to the flat?
Any advice at all would be great! thanks cali

One day in Beirut - what to do? Posted: Sun October 12, 2008 04:17 PM UTC
Hi,
We have been to Beirut a couple of times but have always taken the organised excursion to Byblos, St Mary's church, Jeita Grotto and then a stroll around the city to see the old ruins and then some free time in the city around the pedestrianised area with a short trip back to the port (mini-cruise from Cyprus) by coach.
This time, we will not be taking the excursion but want to do some Duty Free shopping by the port and then making our way into the city. Unfortunately, we don't know the name of the area we usually end up - but it's to the right of the port if you stand with the sea behind you...
We would have liked to go to Byblos for some shopping but if there are any similar type of shops close by, we would be happy to try that instead. Otherwise, how much should we pay for a taxi (round trip) for 4 people from the port to Byblos?
In the evening, we think we will take the excursion to the Casino. We've always missed it before as we've been too tired from our daytime excursion. Does anyone know the dress code for men and women?
The last question is what is the best currency to use? We live in Cyprus so now have Euro or is it best to use USD$?
We go on 24th October so a quick reply would be much appreciated :-)
Thank you!
Michele

Private accomodation in Beirut Posted: Wed September 17, 2008 06:09 PM UTC
Hello there
I´m having a two week language course spring 2008 in Beirut and now im looking for accomodation.
Im wondering whether theres any chance in beirut of staying private with a family or something like that.
Im not sure whether this is common in Beirut, but when i ´learned spanish in cetralamerica ages ago it was common and a good way to learn local people to know.

car and driver for day trips from Beirut Posted: Mon August 4, 2008 06:09 AM UTC
Hi,
Assuming that things remain stable until mid October, my husband and I are planning to visit Lebanon for a week. Can anyone tell me the approximate price to hire a car and driver for day trips to places such as Baalbeck, Sidon, the Cedars? Also, where would it be best to book something like this--with a hotel concierge or perhaps a tourist office?
I've read that Tripoli and Tyre are probably off limits now for tourists, especially an American and a Swede. Any advice?

Stay with Lebanese family... Posted: Sun April 13, 2008 10:54 AM UTC
Hi all...
I'm wanting to travel to Lebanon the last week of June. I have been studying arabic for the last year & 1/2 & am wanting to travel around Lebanon & be in a situation where i HAVE to speak in arabic to people. I'd LOVE to also learn some lebanese cooking. I was wondering if there are any cooking classes available? I looked up on lebweb but couldn't find much. Also, was wondering if any families took boarders for a week or so?? A friend suggested this as an idea to help me understand the language as well as day to day lifestyle.
Thanks
