Getting from Petra to Israel? Posted: Sun October 11, 2009 09:20 PM UTC
I will be traveling to Jordan in January to see Wadi Rum and Petra. I need to leave Petra and get to Israel next and need to reach either Jerusalem or Tel Aviv as quickly as possible on a Friday afternoon. Most posts seem to send everyone toward Eilat, but is there a way to get from Petra to Jerusalem more directly by the Allenby Bridge? Are there busses that go this route or would I have to go all the way to Amman first. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Don't know if i need to post a question in the Israel forum too, but anyone stayed overnight at Eilat ( hotels ) and then headed off to Jerusalem in the morning ?
Thanks in advance Kikili

Amman Airport to Petra Posted: Tue August 4, 2009 05:56 PM UTC
Hello All,
We will be flying from Cairo to Amman, arriving at 1045AM. We want to head straight to Petra... I was wondering if it was possible to get a mini-bus or some sort of reasonably priced transport from the airport straight to Petra?
If this is not possible- any suggestions on the quickest way to get to Petra would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,

Price of drinks Posted: Sat June 13, 2009 02:02 PM UTC
We're going on an organized day trip to Petra in a few days. The tour includes lunch at a hotel but not drinks. We've done a bit of research about the gift stalls and drinks etc. and read that someone paid GBP18 for a glass of wine and milkshake (in a restaurant). We've been told not to take water across the border (from Israel), and will be given a bottle by our tour guide when we cross. Since we'll be there the whole day we'll have to buy bottled water and would like to know if anyone has been over recently and can you tell us more or less how much it cost and also in the restaurants. One last thing, do they accept Euros??
Thanks!

Bus or taxi from Amman Airport to Petra Posted: Sun May 31, 2009 12:49 AM UTC
My flight from Europe arrives in Amman around 0200 in the morning. Is it possible to get a mini-bus or a taxi from the airport to Petra at that time? Any recommendations on a mini-bus company at the airport or must I go into Amman city centre? Also, is there a money exchange open 24 hours at the airport?

Taba to Petra Posted: Sun March 22, 2009 10:36 PM UTC
Hi All,
I have a few questions to do with travels from to and around Petra (from Taba):
1) Approximately how much does it cost to travel from the Egypt/Israel border to the Israel/Jordan border by taxi? This should take approximately 15-20min right?
2) How much does it cost to take a taxi from the Jordan/Israel border to Petra? Again I understand you can only give approximates :)
Thanks heaps in advance :)
3) Again, another price and timing question... We would like to go to the Dead Sea but as far as I am aware there are no buses from Petra. If we hired a taxi, what would we expect to pay on a round trip and approximately how long would it take?

Advice on Petra Posted: Sun December 14, 2008 07:28 PM UTC
Hi all
Its our first time to Petra and we are wondering the best way to do it as we are landing in Amman. It seems the cost of a taxi is 70JD each way, so we are thinking of renting a car for £125 for 4 whole days (flights are either side of this). This will also allow us the freedom of going to the Dead Sea and maybe seeing some things on the Kings Highway (or even Jerash). I'm wondering the practicalities of this. So here here my questions for anyone that has experience of driving to Petra:
1) Is it worth renting a car for 4 days to give us time to see the sites or to get the bus/taxi?
2) How far can you take the car to Petra site and Wadi Rum?
3) Is it worth staying the night in Wadi Rum? If so where would we park the car?
4) How is the driving in terms of safety in Jordan?
Thanks for any driving tips!

Where should I start & end (Cairo, Luxor, Jerusalem, Petra)? Posted: Sat August 30, 2008 12:37 AM UTC
Where should I start & end (Cairo, Luxor, Jerusalem, Petra)?
I am planning a trip for the end of the year. I have a free flight that I have to take before the end of the year with American Airlines and I want to visit the following sites:
- Cairo (Giza and the Pyramids)
- Luxor
- Petra
- Jerusalem
I am not sure what city I should fly into to begin my trip. American can get me to either Tel Aviv or Cairo. From there I have had many suggestions:
- Take a train (at night) from Cairo to Luxor and then fly to Tel Aviv. After seeing Jerusalem, take a tour bus into Jordan (after switching buses) and spend a couple days in Petra then take a bus to Amman or back to Tel Aviv and fly back to Cairo for my return home.
Has anyone taken a train from Cairo to Luxor? If so, how was it?
Is there a train to Jerusalem from Cairo?
Has anyone taken one of the many tours from Jerusalem to Petra? How was it?
Any suggestions you could provide would be great!!
I have tried a couple travek agencies but they all include airfare and I already have the free flight that I have to use.
Thank you!

looking for an adventure trek in Petra Posted: Mon August 18, 2008 05:19 PM UTC
Hi all ...
I will be in Petra next week (for the third time... I love it !!) and I am looking for a company or individual who can help me with an adventure trek. I don't want to take a really long camel journey, more like a few days hiking and camping around some of the less tourist-infested areas near Petra.
Can anybody help me ? Has anybody used a cood tour company for this ? Or maybe I should find an individual guide ?
Any info would be much appriciated !
Cheers !

Questions on Petra - September 2008 Posted: Sun August 10, 2008 07:47 AM UTC
I've booked to go to Petra for the weekend of 11 September 2008. I have a few questions:
Is it best to book a transfer in advance to get me from Amman to Petra or can I get one at the airport? I arrive at 9am on the Thursday and depart at 3pm on the Saturday. How much should this cost me each way or return?
Do I need to book the Petra by night tour in advance? Is it worth doing?
I will be travelling by myself. I have heard that women need to be a bit careful in Jordan. Is that true? Coming from Dubai I know to cover up but is there anything else I should do to avoid male attention and be safe?
I just also want to confirm that I should be able to drink water during the day while walking through Petra. I know that it's Ramadan but have been advised that it should be allowed. The hotel has assured me that the restaurants will be open during the day as well. Is anyone able to confirm this to put me at ease?
Many thanks in advance for your answers!

Visit Petra with Toddler? Posted: Tue August 5, 2008 09:18 AM UTC
Just wondering what accessability is like at Petra - 2 issues concern me:
How rough / steep etc is the walk around the site?
My daughter is 2 1/2 - will we end up carrying her the whole time?
My hubby is very tall and heavy - so donkey rides may be a problem?
Have looked on the internet but haven't found much info about travelling with little ones.
Thanks in advance

Transport by bus from the Dead Sea to Petra to Aqaba Posted: Thu May 29, 2008 10:39 AM UTC
Hi,
Im visiting Jordan in July, can anyone tell me how I should travel from the Dead Sea (movenpick hotel) to Petra, then from Petra to Aqaba?
Can I get a bus between all 3 places and if so, where from and how regular are they?
If not, what other options are there?
Im spending 3 nights in Petra - is that enough to see the sights?!
Thanks!!!!!
