| Makati | 3 star hotel near Dusit Thani Hotel at Makati Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 06:10 PM UTC
I will be in Phillippines from around 26th May till 02 June and will need to be staying near Dusit Thani Manila Hotel. I believe that this is located right in the heart of Makati, right ? Could anyone please advise me which would be a hotel (3 stars ok) I should stay so that I could reach Dusit Thani within a 15 minutes walk ?
On the other hand, could I stay a bit further away from Makati and spend some $ on taxi fares to Dusit Thani ? Staying bit further from Makati would mean cheaper hotel rates but what is the hotel rate for 3 star hotels in Makati ? I do not need great hotel, just a clean comfortable room will do. Alternatively, can I reach Dusit Thani via any other transport besides taxi if I were to stay away from Makati ? Any advises and recommendation please ? Thanks |

| Manila | Cheapest fares between BKK-MNL Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 04:12 AM UTC
VT'ers,
Once again Mabuhay! Alright, I have been trying to get some pricing from Cebu Pacific for their BKK-MNL route. I will be wanting a return flight in November 2008 to see my GF. But for some stupid reason, their website does not allow me entry of a date that is so far in advance. My questions are thus: 1. Do I take the risk and not book for this until I'm in BKK, closer to travel time. Flying there first for business. 2. Does anyone know what the approximate cost of this return ticket, during the period of late November. Also, is this considered shoulder or peak season. Thanks for your insight. |

| Manila | I goofed, I put this in the wrong forum. Posted: Sat April 26, 2008 04:51 PM UTC
So now I will put it here.
I see many postings and ads for rooms in Manila, that are said to be cheap. but my idea of cheap is 200-400 pesos a night, I don't want a added breakfast, as I can find my own food, and I am sure better than a hotel breakfast..Now the cheapest, I can find on line is around 750. but I am sure there are many small unadvertised places that would be less. If anyone has real experence with a guest house like this, let me know. I plan on spending 1-2 months in Philippines my next trip.... I am also returning to Cagayan de oro. I remember a hotel, I don't remember the street, but in the center of town, near divesoria. they had rooms for 450 p. I never see hotels like this mentioned in any forums. but if there is one, there must be more. Thanks for your attention. |

| Manila | Budget Hotel near US Embassy Manila, suggestions pls. Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 07:48 AM UTC
We will be having our medical sched this may 13 and interview at USEM on May 21.. can anybody suggest a nice, clean and decent budget place to stay from May 12 to May 21? I will be with my 2 kids (8 & 10years old). We are hoping to find a place within 1,000-1,700 range.
Has anybody tried or know anything about Jade Vine Executive Inn along UN Avenue? The lady I spoke to seemed very pleasant and the price is just within our budget but I am not sure if the place is ok becoz sometimes the picture on the net could be deceiving. I hope somebody could help me out. Thank you very much. |

| Manila | Music in Manila. Posted: Sat April 12, 2008 12:20 PM UTC
Hi, I would like to take my wife out for the night in Manila. She is from Laguna and has heard of Ratsky's and would like to go there, but I'm not so sure. I heard it was a place for tenagers! Somewhere that has a live band playing easy-listening music. Food isn't necessary but would be good if people recommend it. Would prefer near Ermita/Malate if possible. Thanks, Alex.

| Manila | Frustrated! Posted: Thu April 10, 2008 08:48 AM UTC
I've been in the P.I. for nearly 3 months and everytime I try to call the operator, the line is ALWAYS busy. I'm also trying to call the Vietnamese Embassy and the line is always either busy or it just rings off the hook. Can someone give me a tip on how to get through.
Also, on the off chance that someone knows how much a Vietnam visa would cost at the embassy in Manila, that would help me out tons! Thanks! -Zan |

| City of Manila | Men's fashion - Where should I go? Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 06:37 PM UTC
I'm a resident of New York City, visiting Makati in May. I hear that Makati is a shopper's paradise, so I look forward to doing some serious shopping there.
I need men's wear clothing. Can you recommend some good stores selling cool men's fashion pieces at great prices? I am interested in local Filipino designers. In addition, if international labels like Armani, Calvin Klein, Zegna, etc. are available in Manila for a cost less than what they'd sell in New York, I'd like to know where I could find those items. I need casual tops for the summer (short sleeves shirts, collared and buttoned-down, or polo-shirt style) and also some dress shirts to wear in the evenings. Names of stores and locations in Makati near the Makati Shangri-la will help a lot. If there are any boutiques/ateliers outside Makati worth a special trip, I am open to those suggestions. Thanks!!! |

| Manila | Holy week Posted: Mon March 17, 2008 05:02 AM UTC
Hello,
My boyfriend and I are in Manila for a little and we'd like to go to San Fernando in Pampanga for Good Friday. We're particularly interested in the live crucifixions. I need a few suggestions: a)is it better to stay in Manila and take a bus to San Fernando the day of Good Friday or should we just get a room there? We're looking for budget accommodation and can't find any on VT or any of the guide books we have. b) when are the crucifixions held? are there several acts all day or is it a single event in which everyone gathers at one point? c) we'll be in Manila for a while so if anyone wants to do a little VT get together that would be great! All advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks -zan |
