Naran Condition of Naran/Kaghan/Shogran after Earth quake?
Posted: Mon June 18, 2007 12:12 PM UTC
Hello all,
I went to Naran in Aug 2002, and I have plans once again to go to Balakot, Shogran,Kaghan and Naran. But I am not sure about the conditions of the places after 2005 earth quake. Did anyone travel recently there? how is the condition of living there? And can anyone guide me more about the situation there? How is the road condition from Balakot to Naran (And also to Shogran)? Can one travel on own car? Or jeep is recommended? I traveled last time in own car, as the road was in very good condition, but what about now?

Which is the best place to stay (at any cost)? By best place, I mean with all the facilities!
Which is best resturant to have food!
and other attractions there (other than Lake Saif ul malook)

Peshawar question about a residential site
Posted: Sat February 10, 2007 04:28 PM UTC
A good friend of mine is from Peshawar. He moved away when he was a teenager (and is now 34) and has not been back in over ten years. I would love to obtain a photo of his house for him. His father was an SDA minister and their home is at 3 Sahibzad Gul Road, near the AFB Cantt. The gate to his house is opposite the secondary gate to the base. If anyone happens over that way I would so much appreciate a photo of the home for him. We are hoping to travel there together in the future to explore all of the amazing sites in Peshawar and the north. I've enjoyed looking through all of your pictures to get an image of the places he describes. Peace to all of you!

Kalam Swat Valley
Posted: Tue July 18, 2006 10:20 AM UTC
I along with my family are planning to visit the Swat valley next week (22-30 July). Will make Kalam as my base camp. I am aware that this is the rain season; therefore my main concern is this monsoon rains.

1/ Any idea, from past travelers, how much rain to expect in this region during this period?
2/ What about road blockages, etc?
3/ Besides visiting the regular tourist spots, any side valleys that can be visited utilizing jeeps – keeping in mind that we will not be in a position to hike (2 little devils, one 4.5 years old and the other 1.5 accompanying us).
4/ Other then PTDC, any other good hotels?

Thanks

North-West Frontier Province Two 70 yr old ladies going to the Northern area
Posted: Sat July 8, 2006 12:17 PM UTC
No, they're not going trekking. They will be visiting a dear friend in a village called Morkhun.
Do you know the place? They will be with 4 others in the group. They will be met in Islamabad by their Pakistani friend, spend one night in ISB then fly to Gilgit the next day. In Gilgit they will rent a van and drive to Morkhun. My question is: should we try to make as many reservations(hotels/jeep/van) as we can from here (Japan) through a tour operator in Islamabad and take comfort in knowing that arrangements are in place even though a little expensive, OR have our friend come and meet us in ISB and make the arrangements on the spot? Would this be cheaper since he is Pakistani and he'll know how to bargain and will know what is reasonable? But, since the dates are 8/2 to 8/11, is there a chance hotels and car rentals will be fully booked, etc. What would you advise? Thank you in advance.

North-West Frontier Province Shandoor Pass Polo Tournament - any information?
Posted: Tue June 27, 2006 04:38 PM UTC
Hi everyone,

I will be arriving in Islamabad on 4th July and I'm hoping to attend the Shandoor Pass Polo Tournament - I understand the dates are 7th - 9th July. Can anyone help me with information on the best transport to and from the tournament, and arrangements on the pass?

Do I need to take my own tent, sleeping bag, food or can I arrange that?? My preference is to travel 'light'.

I also understand it is quite cold up on the pass - is that correct?

I should mention I am female, travelling on my own, first time in Pakistan and this is the start of 3 weeks travelling around Northern Pakistan that I'm really looking forward to!

Any advice appreciated.
