Carpets in Karachi Posted: Fri October 9, 2009 08:10 PM UTC
I want to buy a high quality carpet as a gift to my parents and wonder if I should do it during a stop over in Karachi. I'm looking for a dark red Afghan style carpet in the size of 6-10 m2.
Is it reasonable to expect to by one for about usd 60 per m2. My wife is Turkish and very gifted in bargaining but it might be unlikely anyway.
Any input would be much appreciated!

Crazy idea? Posted: Sat July 18, 2009 07:22 PM UTC
Hi
I'm a English woman and my long term partner is from Muzaffarabad. He has had to return home to Kashmir and is likely to be there for a few months. We plan on getting married Spring 2010, hopefully in the UK if all visa requirements are met.
I'm missing him terribly and am desperate to see him, but inlight of various events in Pakistan am I crazy to be even considering visiting the country? I would really like to go around November time, would be flying alone into Islamabad but would be met by him at the airport and then would be accompanied by him at all times. At this stage not sure if we would remain in Islamabad stopping in a hotel (seperate rooms I know as we are not yet married) or travel up to Muzaffarabad to stay with family. Obviously having a Pakistani partner I'm fully aware of culture and religious aspects and naturally would be dressed in appropriate dress of Shalwar Kameez.
I check the Pakistani news on a daily basis and I know situtions can change very quickly. Would just really appreciate everyones input and thoughts.
Many thanks

Visit to Kaghan/Naran/Gilgit Posted: Sun July 12, 2009 10:14 AM UTC
Hey all,
I reside in Karachi and myself and a few friends are planning a trip to Kaghan/Naran till Gilgit through Islamabad - abbottabad - Mansehra route. We plan on leaving on July 28 and will travel in these areas for a approx a week till Aug 9. Would appreciate if anyone residing in Kaghan or Gilgit can advise about the security condition.
Also should we equip ourselves with local clothing such as kurta shalwar or is it safe to travel in jeans and casual wear?
Thanks

Would I Be Stupid... Posted: Sat June 13, 2009 04:46 PM UTC
... to return to Pakistan to cycle up through the north to China? It would not be till early 2010, and I understand things can change almost daily. But I need to look ahead. Perhaps someone living in Pakistan can advise. Im used to taking a few risks, but dont want to do anything completely stupid! I am, of course, assuming they have not stopped issuing visas due to security threats. Thanks.

few q about a possible trip to lahore Posted: Tue March 17, 2009 07:11 PM UTC
hey all,
im planning to go to lahore in june/july (if i get my poc card back in time - how comes nicop cards are quicker than poc's??), but as i've only been to karachi before i wanted to know if there are any major differences, i know karachi is seen as fairly modern esp in defence so im not too sure what to expect. im hoping that ppl will b just as welcoming/accepting as they were in karachi of a gori being on their soil thats all
as my little boy went to karachi at xmas and enjoyed the trip so much i wanted to take him back to pakistan but see another city . . . so lahore it is. unfortunately some of the pakistani friends i have over here in london dont think much of lahore?!? :( (mayb they r just all from karachi, hey)
anyways, firstly im assuming weather is gonna b really hot by that time??
i've heard a few mentions of the lahore fort in books, is this a cool place to go and see whilst im there??
i also wanted to see the work that the edhi foundation do, as they are such an important organisation in pak im assuming they have a branch or 2 in lahore?? and do u think it would b easy to go and see or meet some of the children who live there or the people who give their time look after them, or would that not b welcomed. i know that talking about orphans and adoptions can still be a little taboo with religion and culture and i just wanted to explore the reasons behind this. im just a bit worried that i will upset or offend anyone by wanting to go there?? any help on this would be appreciated.
thanks,
kate

Pakistan VIsa not required for Nepali nationals for upto 30 days stay? Posted: Sat February 21, 2009 12:21 PM UTC
I am a Nepali citizen and will like to visit Pakistan -alone for sight seeing and meeting few friends soon,i have read in the Pakistan government website -
http://www.pakistan.gov.pk/divisions/ContentInfo.jsp?DivID=23&cPath=221_225_599&ContentID=2513
that Nepali nationals D0N0T require a visa to enter Pakistan for a maximum stay of upto 30 days. Can anybody tell me if this is still valid and I plan to travel to Pakistan by bus or train from india so can I still enter Pakistan without visa?I wplan to stay there for about fifteen days.
I have tried contacting the Embassy of Pakistan in Nepal but they dont have any valid email id and their phone isn't reachable
however I have contacted the Embassy of Nepal in Pakistan and they have sent me a mail saying that we donot require a visa to enter Pakistan for upto 30 days stay no matter how we travel to Pakistan-by air or land or by train.
Can someone please tell me the valid visa rules now and also if I have to carry any document showing that I dont require visa tv enter pakistan-so that the authorities at the border donot create trouble
Thank you
